  1. I have some reservations about the graphics as i've seen them in all the videos. It's odd but some parts look not better than OpFlash (although OpFlash still looks nice) and other parts look lovely. The buildings look dull and a bit sad but when you get up close the textures improve. The light grass sprinkled all around really improves the overall look and feel of the surroundings. The tree trunks are very nice but although the trees have a far higher leaf count they don't look any better texture wise than OpFlash trees. Same with the bushes. I saw a vid of a guy whose team mate got killed on the street and a whole minute or two later he was crawling near him and i was amazed to see a small pool of blood beginning to form under the dead guys corpse. Not only that it had a blood pool but that it didnt just pool out console style and instead took a realistic few minutes for it to soak his uniform first then seep around him. Very nice touch. Overall i'm still excited about AA. I wonder what Direct X 10 will do for the graphics, if at all? Gameplay is still king with us pc players and I have to say that some of the mp vids that are starting to surface are really making AA look like a sucesor to GR1 (yes i said GR1 not GRAW). The mp maps in OpFlash were sometimes far too large and lost focus but they have implemended a minfield perimiter for some AA mp maps. I'd say GR1 large maps are an ideal size. Can't wait for the MP demo.
  2. Ghost Recon is dead as far as im concerned. I'm still looking for a replacement.
  3. Yeah i agree that it'll still be a great game. It's a testement to the greatness of OpFlash that even today it's far better than most games and an upgraded version such as AA will still be worth the purchase. I found opflash to be a pain inmp cause every server i joined was laggy and could only support a hand full of players. Hopefully AA will be more robust and it'll be great to get some AA mp in.
  4. I'm not sure where you mean dude. I don't see any forum called Game 2 in this Bis part. Can you link it.
  5. I know that gameplay is king and i actually believe OpFlash was years ahead of its time when you calculated in a graphics times scope formula. But . . . . It's 6 years on and even though they are focusing on game play i have to say that in the last few days i just downloaded and watched nearly all the AA movies on armaholic.com and the vast majority of the footage looks no better than original Opflash. In the early days of AA news some AA screen shots looked pretty fantastic but in all these vids it was rare to see anything special. There is more variety in foliage and it's animated a bit more but basicaly everything still has that dull nintendo 64 muddy graphics texture. I think at least the gun and your hands should get the star treatment in a game as far as looks go but they look pretty awful in some and just ok in others. The M24 sniper and M249 heavy gun is nice but not great and thats the best it gets. The game play in the vids and the look and sound of the game looks like OpFlash 1.1. I think they needed 5 million dollars, 20 more talented staff and another year and they could have made AA look fantastic but as it is it's starting to just look like a dredging up of a re touched OpFlash. I'll still buy it cause i did love OpFlash but i hope it looks better than the vids cause AA is a tac shooter fans last hope. What do you lads think.
  6. I am getting mightyly darn sick of this crap. What's with stupid screeny releases where all the damn screens are night shots. I mean, look at this bunch of screenies on Worthplaying. http://www.worthplaying.com/article.php?si...ead&order=0 Some might like night missions etc but i hate it when i pay big bucks for a graphics card and end up in night levels looking at the sillouetts of stuff. Those rogue warrior screenies were pretty dark and i don't care if it's a stealth game etc. I just think devs assume that if you make a level dark it's a shortcut to 'atmosphere'. Ok, afew levels in a game i can handle. But when they are doing PR for a game and they they throw out ten mostly black screens to show you what it looks like then i just say "screw it, i ain't even gonna both with the demo never mind the game".
  7. I have a strang reaction to this. I hate ads so mucht that i never watch tv i just download shows. and i never listen to radio with ads. However i like realistic environs in games and when i see a 'joe blogs' coke machine in a level i just wish it said coke or pepsi. If i'm in a driving game or a shooter on a street and there are bill boards with ads on them just the same as in the real world then i wouldnt mind. If they changed content when i logged on it would give the game some variety. My guess though is that they would get greedy and the ads would end up being in your face too much. Also, i'm happy if dev houses can get extra income but i dont think for a moment it will lower game prices. Steam has cut out so much cost for valve but HL2 wasnt any cheaper. On prinsicple i think that with restraint the ads thing could enhance the imediacy of a game but in reality it will get intrusive.
  8. If you go under the yellow thing i think you can see ground textures on the cieling of it. yeah the logo is totally 'inspired' by GR. I can't believe they rip it off like that. I really like the look of the engine but as usual i dont like jungle setting. I would really like a temperate forest climate setting. That plus a less run and gun design and i think it could have been a really great game.
  9. ha ha, yes. what did you think i was talking about?
  10. Yeah but there is a shockingly good difference between MTW and RTW. The graphics jump between RTW and M2TW is just polish though. That's not really a bad thing as the RTW engine still looks great. They handed off M2TW to the B team in Aus and i think it's obvious that they are working on the next big jump which will take some time, either that or they are having their energies drained by redundant console development just like OpFlash did. Yeah the knights have the same effect that a zebras stripes do to lion. Just all one mess and it's hard to see individual actions. Still, it's really nice to see the RTW engine in a totally Medieval setting. I got as much joy from RTW because of the culture and history i learned as i did from the game play. It will be great to faff around with the different powers and learn new stuff about the specifics of their armies of the day. Before RTW a roman soldier was just a bloke with a shield and a little sword who fought in an organized block. Now after playing it for a few years i know the difference between all the differing infantry units etc, he he and i can see when a roman in a movie about Jesus is wearing armour that wasn't introduced until a hundred years after etc. That's pretty cool. Not many games educate that much.
  11. I'm not sure Rocky. Weird but some games drop out of the blue. I only just started to get to know about Aliance too. The war studio and all the hud options look like that game will have a serious side for players like us even though it looks a bit CS in game play. The vids don't show if you can go prone or not. Let us know what you think of TT dude. I have a thread up for it.
  12. yeah i finally found a download site that was a decent speed and just gave it a go. I had it on full everything except shadows and anti stropic or whatever and at 1600 1200 and it ran ok. I found the units in RTW much easier to distinguish. The Euro knights all look alike and the clashes are a bit more chaotic than in RTW. it looks nice and all that but i'd call this an upgrade to RTW rather than a next generation.
  13. That's weird dude. I get it on BF 1942, BF2 and BF2142, even had it on the demos. I've had it over various total format and re installs of XP too and with various versions of my Nvidia drivers. totally weird.
  14. I just tried the demo of 'Terrorist takedown'. http://www.city-interactive.com/index.php?page=covert_ops It uses the same game engine as Call of Juarez. Only it's way more like [GR]. Better looking of course but a bit less serious. Check out the demo.
  15. The recent leaked demo earlier this month would not run on some AMD XP processors. (sheesh with that and GRAW not running on my graphics card i'm out of luck these days) This new demo is called the 'Gold demo'. Anyone know if it will run on us AMD old timers. it says P4 1,7 and AMD equivilant and i have an AMD XP 2.4 ????
  16. I just played a bit of the demo of the upcoming game 'Terrorist takedown: covert ops' by City interactive. Here is the url for the site. http://www.city-interactive.com/index.php?page=covert_ops First off the Legend of the game name is dangerously similar in style to [GR]. Which is a respectful nod i guess. I'd describe the game as GR light. It uses the Chrome engine which is also used by 'Call of Juarez' apparently. To be honest though i found the green Columbian jungle a bit bland although it was very varied with a great draw distance. It has prone, single and burst shot etc and is not totally unlike [GR]. The voice overs are a bit over the top and the feel of the game play is a bit 'kiddy' style. The misions are darn tough on Hard setting which is nice. What's not so nice is the medicine boxes strewn all over the place. The game doesnt have that precise feel that GR has although the aiming etc does feel spot on. The level design is very nice so i dont know what my complaint is. I guess it's just a bit juvinile oriented. It feels like a strange mix of GR and some run and gun console fps. Maybe it's more like Far Cry than GR but i whacked it up to full everything on my old system and it ran very smoothly. You can find the demo around.
  17. Every time a new BF game comes out there is one thing that bugs the hell out of me and although it's a small detail i'm trying to imagine how it's possible with all the game testing etc that goes on that no one every addressed this. When you are in key setup and you click an action and input the key the mouse pointer dissapears and reappears in some default position at the center of the screen and you have to reset your mintal picture of where it is and drag it to the next option. Usually the mouse cursor stays put in games and you just move it to the next option. Now, as i said it's not a big deal but it's a really annoying thing and i find it hard to beleive that no one told them how anoying it is that your cursor dissapears and you have to locate it and then move it over to the next option which in most cases is quite close to the one you were just setting up. Does anyone else find this totally annoying? This post isnt a plea to get that fixed or to just moan about it. Im just dumbfounded that over a series of three or four game releases this was never addressed. Any thoughts on why they just left it like that.
  18. Silent i have to disagree with you. As you know i loved OpFlash and i'm totally looking forward to AA. I found the video stylish enough (despite the seemingly obligatory middle eastern twang music). The thing is though, i get the feeling that Bohemia were screwed by Codemasters in someway and that they broke away leaving the OpFlash2 name behind and set up their own production house again. This explains their late and difficult attempts to find a publisher. Also their team size seems a little on the small side. About 26 isn't it? I read news that they brought in the original OpFlash project leader at a late date to round things off. This all gives me the impression that they didn't have the resources and time that they would have liked. The videos are nice but apart from re worked animations of the soldiers and added direct x features they don't look much more advanced than OpFlash: resistence turned on full settings. Some of the recent vids have showed better bushes and grass and i think they need to do that more because sometimes the vids look too much like vanila OpFlash and this last one does. Very stylish as i said but i think the editing of it failed to differentiate AA from OpFlash. I've seen a few unofficial vids recently. One was of the guy sneeking up on a town through bushes and trees and they looked very nice. Another was of them rescuing hostages called Bannana men in the town and the town looked nice with the sandy coloured walls. I will buy and enjoy AA but i hope it's not too much like OpFlash, after all it is over five years later now. Also, OpFlash despite being great had a very syrup like gun sight movement. I hope it's made more [GR] like so it feels responsive to the mouse. Some recent vids show the left arm holding the gun barrel to look like a stick with a glove on the end. Anyway AA is my last best hope for a good [GR] like game experience so i'm routing for it for sure.
  19. I totallly miss the [GR] scene. I was with it from the Castle Day demo. I introduced it to my old 'Hidden & Dangerous' partner. He wasn't that impressed at first but after a few weeks he was addiced and we spent the next 3 years or so playing every night just about. We don't play online together much anymore becuase there just isn't anything that has mesured up to [GR] and its scene. I'm really looking forwad to AA but somehow, although i'm sure i'll enjoy it as i did OpFlash, i don't think it will galvanize the players into as scene the way [GR] did. I believe that the heart of the problem is that the games industry, despite making billions and billions of dollars from the players, just refuse to see them as adults. If it's not over done explosions it's slowed down missiles/Law/RPG's etc (you know, just in case at normal speed we would miss how 'cool' it looked', or it's massive fat tracers so that we'll get excited at all the lights and on and on. The games industry seem incable of translating the statistic that the average gamer is about age 29 years old (average meaning more than half of all gamers are over 30) into a sensibility that they want adult and mature (as in not flashy for the sake of it) games. Maybe they just think that sure we are adults but we must be childish if we play games. I wonder how many of the execs at UBI actually play games for their own recreation.
  20. I also didnt see anything wrong with his post. I found boneheads post to be very mean spirited and a bit sharp and nasty though. I don't like reading replys the way bonehead spoke to him.
  21. oops double posted and dont know how to delete my entire post so i'll just change it. By the way the new forum looks really nice.
  22. I haven't had much look with my favorite games as far as sequels go. here's the list. 1. HL1 5 year wait. 2. Hidden & Dangerous. 4 year wait. 3. Ghost Recon. 5 year wait (and it won't run on my pc). 4. OpFlash. 5 years and counting. Weird when you consdier that all of them were ground breaking, industry changing and top selling. go figure.
  23. Wow Rocky thats very interesting. I'm quite familar witht he Chrome engine. I played the first demo and i think another one later. In the first Chrome game it starts in a wood land and although it's sci fi and dumbed down the actual scenery was really nice and this is about two years ago now. I remember wishing they'd used this engine for GR2 PC. the metalic surfaces and the nature textures were very solid and impressive. Pity the game sucked a bit. I'd really like it if a dedicated thread for vid clips could be set up. There should be soem rules such as only very high res clips. If they are low res or hosted on Youtube or something they are so pixilated it's hard to get the point across considering it's a graphics demonstration. I can load up vids after downloading them and play them on media player classic and wmp so even see a side by side, that would be cool. I'd like to see some running river comparisons and foliage etc.
  24. Ok Rocky i've had a chance to see the vid. I have to say i'm mightily impressed. It has a lot more subtlety than either [GR] or OpFlash (of course it's 5 years newer) although i'd go for a little toning down of the colours vibrancy. The river bank shots at the end of the vid gave me a change to look at the other bank and see how much of the foliage was still evident and there was enough to lay up in and do some sniping. My standard would be to have absolutly even foliage all over the map, as far as the eye could see anyway and not more at my feet and less off in the distance to save processor time. Then once that is establish let the years go by and increase the quality. Anyway it looked great. What game engine does that game use, is it the HL2 engine? Usually HL or Doom or UT can't produce varied and subltile foliage. Based on the demo it's not my type of game but it sure did look good. I'd go for some GR-a like in an environment like that.
