What I forgot to mention is that the original images (on the left) were taken at 800x600 at 16 thingys, with most things set on the middle option, apart from shadows and tree details which were off and low respectivly.
On the new one (right) everything was "high" and the screenshot was taken at 1024x768 with 32 thingys and resized to match the other image. (It can run much higher screen res but for the sake of the shots I didn't need to).
As you can see the skins are much much "sharper" and in normal gameplay you can imagine the difference over a full screen.
(Just working on some backgrounds/wallpapers at the moment for you lucky people)

Despite being the land of the free American education seems to be being held to ransom by capitalism. Yes profits are good, but striking passages of pollution from text books is irresponsible. You want your children growing up thinking that a V12 is good for the environment? Large companies have lost their social responsabilities big time, and at the moment no-one is reining them in. When companies have a say in what goes in textbooks, I feel we have big problems.
No-doubt a similar thing will follow in Britain. I believe recently that the American Sugar industry was unhappy because an independant test showed that sugar was bad for you. No ###### Sherlock! This sort of thing really annoys me. I'll just go and cry in the corner. (Good quotes Monty.)

indeed. I can't understand what is going on there. I got about 13,750 on 3D mark on 2001se, without any tweaking and everything on standard. The guy fishing in the river completly blew me away. Will try again once I've worked out what everything does. I'm not a big tech head who knows everything about tweaking, all I know is that I wanted to play Splinter Cell and be able to edit 50mb photos. And I can. Hurrah.

I'm on 56k as well. It only causes serious lag when there are a few 56k'ers, and some have rubbish pcs as well. On my new PC I connect 3kps faster (so now upto 45kps) than my old one, on the same ISP, so can't be bad.
Lucky gr has some good net code, but I fear the future of online gaming is heading quickly to broadband which is a real shame. Look at the amount of mods and patchs over 20mb (which is about the limit for 56k downloads). RvS says that it should be played above 56k, but I haven't tried it yet MP yet. Still working out the command map. Waiting for Agr-s to come back so I can pick up some tips. At the moment I am downloading everything at work (risking the sack) and putting them on CD to bring home to try them out.

I recently took delivery of a new PC (click here to view details, but before I passed my old one off I did a direct comparison of GR with the new pc, and with my old one:
(------------------
System Information
------------------
Operating System: Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 1 (2600.xpsp1.020828-1920)
Language: English (Regional Setting: English)
BIOS: AMIINT - 10
Processor: Intel Celeron, ~1001MHz
Memory: 128MB RAM
Primary File System: NTFS
DirectX Version: DirectX 8.1 (4.08.01.0810)
---------------
Display Devices
---------------
Card name: NVIDIA RIVA TNT2 Model 64/Model 64 Pro
-------------
Sound Devices
-------------
Description: Creative Sound Blaster PCI)
So here is the difference:

The new ones are on the right, old ones on the left. It has made quite a difference as you can see so to anyone thinking of upgrading, my advice is to buy the best you can afford. You won't be disappointed.

Couple of downsides to the new rules, the stupid (cost cutting) option of only having one wet weather tyre made the previous races lethal. I think the length of the race is also a problem, say having 50 laps instead of the 2 hour max, or 300(?)mile limit. Looking forward to the Monaco GP because the new rules will shake that grid up seriously badly. Anyone remember a few years ago when Michael Shu was stuck behind one of the Jordans for 3/4 of the race? He was fuming. Now thats entertainment.
Anyone watch the World Championship Snooker? I know some people find it boring but the level of skill and nerve needed in that game is pretty much uncomparable. Keep your end to end basketball, and your "World" (ha!) Series, give me classic man o man pub games like Darts, Snooker and fighting. (well boxing).

Anyone recommend a good joystick for FS2002. Its unplayable with the keyboard, but I don't want to fork out over the odds for a super all singing flashy one. Something round the £20-£30 mark would be okay. Any ideas?

Ra ra ra. Go Gr.net go gr.net take it too em. Get in there my son. Charge. Hell hath no fury like a forum scorned, etc etc.
Just waiting for em to upload the replays to see how well you really did.
Only joking, and turn it up a notch for the next round.Your ever loyal servant of the forums

How long before there is a Splinter Cell film? Now that would be cool.

Political correctness and regular pointless examinations are ruining most peoples educations. Most kids aren't learning what they need. I left school not knowing how to cook properly. Surely thats a bit more important than being about to do some pointless long equation that we will never do? I can put up a shelf but learnt that from my dad, just about fix my car but learnt that from a manual.
I'm not saying these are essential, but I was never given the option to learn these. Basic home economics was just that. I was guided through making a pizza in my first year of school but that was all.
Britian is currently desperate for plumbers/builders/sparkies, but most students are not going into that despite the HUGE amounts of money that could be made. I needed a builder a week ago, his waiting list is until the beginning of Feb next year. (Luckily I knew him personally so he is coming round next week
but for most people that isn't an option.)Parabellum: Good point, you are only not allowed to offend minorities. Those in the majority have to put up with it. In Birmingham last year they called there Christmas Parade a winter Wonderland so not to offend the large Asain groups there. Never mind that christians would be more offended, never mind that even if you are not Christian most people get a holiday at christmas. Never mind all that but don't offend the Asians.
Talking of strange stuff this man:

Abu Hamza
Is being told to leave Britian for inciting racial hatred (IIRC he said all Jews should die). He went to court about it, and his spokeman said on leaving court that the british law system was being racist. No doubt he will probably win, claim hundreds of thousands in compensation and given a safe house in Brighton. (PS the t-shirt is not available in the shops but the start of my new fake magnum range)

Thank god its the server. I just hooked my new pc to the internet on my lovely 56k modem and it was going slow as hell. (No offense Rocky, I was just concerned that the I'd spent far too much cash on a duff pc.)
Why not get a proper shop? I can get you a wicked e-commerce solution for $500. Fully customised so it looks like your current site, best sellers, reviews, accounts etc etc. I can sell some of my homebrew t-shirts, Ronin can sell his flash stuff, Rocky can peddle porn, everyones happy

Good luck to all those in exams. Don't get too stressed, at the end of the day it is what you do with the stuff you have, not just the stuff you have.
My job is a million miles from what I studied at A-Levels but my employers saw my potential and here I am., looking smart and smelling sweet.
Don't cheat. You will go blind.

I picked up RvS last Friday. I did the training, and then attempt to navigate the planning rooms and such like. I entered the first mission hoping I could scrape through with minor injuries. Nope, all my team shot full of holes.
I turned it off then, mainly because I had picked up splinter cell at the same time. Now that is an amazing game. I will go back to RvS, but I wish there was a little bit more training on the planning aspects of the game. I never played Rogue Spear (I have the original Rainbow 6 for the PSone,) but compared to Splinter Cell RvS leaves me a little cold. It is probably just me as I had trouble understanding control the various teams at once.
(PS Buy Splinter Cell. It is very pretty. But then when you have a shiney new PC everything looks pretty. I'll post a comparision screen shot between my old GR gaming and my new one, some of you might be surprised if you have an older PC.)

Okay how about this one:

I voted for have it monthly. I don't have a lot of time for this sort of thing but over the course of a month I should be able to manage something.

Hello
Why does Sybrarite always have the best emoticons?

Trust no-one

Okay, that might be a little hard, but having read the thread about schools, gr cheating, loco shutting down, and now ronin having trouble with someone he directly helped what happened to community spirit? Curse them all and let them have there 226k animated gifs as an intro, let them play stupid lms matchs during co-op, let them think their clan is the best because they can shoot 20 people on co-op elite but never come home with a full team, let them do what the hell they like as long as they don't play with me I don't care any more.
The amount of clan servers which I have been on where other clan members are shouting incredibly offensive things at members and non members during a match and afterwards, usually for no apparent reason. A TK is forgivable, and doesn't need a huge slanging match during the match. Let alone kill the person who TK'd. Sorry to hear of your troubles ronin, perhaps you will be more careful in future.

The bottom one. The text on the top one is too blue compared with the dark nature of the sig, and the chap with the gun has been too watercoloured for my liking. And the smoke is just appearing from nowhere. So the bottom one.

I've been meaning to read the book for years. I just always seem to forget to buy it. I only know about it from being generally very clever
Well useless B/S would be a better way of putting it...1985 now. Looks like it could be another week before we see our happy 2000th member. I'll bring the cake, if someone will blow up the balloons.

Nightmare's exams

When I did A-levels I had a conflict on 2 of the exams. I sat one at 2pm, for 2 hours, then came out, sat with 10 other people for 10 mins break, then went back into the exam hall for another 2 hours with only 10 other people.
Also during GCSE I finished the D+T (Resistant Materials) exam 1 3/4 hours early (3 hour exam). I was a bit concerned so I re-read it to make sure I hadn't missed out anything. I hadn't, 1 hour 30 mins to waste. I got an A but I have never been so bored in all my life.
