  1. Had another crash today, its a different message since i installed SP2. Its as follows: DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_THAN_EQUAL

    then some junk, and then:

    STOP 0X000000D1 (0X0A8A9005,0X000000002,0X00000001,0X7C918154)

I checked on the site Whitenight77 recommended and the solution to the error code "0X000000D1" is to install SP1. Which i did have, before i installed SP2, which i presume would have had the solution anyway. I'm very confused now :( Plus it dosn't happen when i turn the PC off as stated on the Smart Computing site, it just randomly crashes to the BSOD. This time the BSOD has occured when ive been playing GTA:SA and not randomly like the previous crashes (see first post, which had a different error message anyway).

I'm wondering if its the USB mouse as the solution on Smart Computing : http://www.smartcomputing.com/techsupport/...5&ErrorID=21386

mentions that it is a USB related error. Im lost guys, any help would be great.

MrC (very unhappy and very hot in this blasted weather)

  2. Well, ive had 2 BSOD's today so far. I've got new RAM and upgraded to SP2! Didn't have a single crash yesterday, which is odd because i ran it all day and most of the night without any problems. The last one today happened when i scrolled the mouse roller, which is odd as thats never happened before. If it happens again i'll write the error message down. This is starting to get to me now :(

  3. Ahh sorry for not putting all the details, yeah my cpu is an AMD XP 2800+. Thanks alot for the help, this is by far the best place to come for help :)

Well i tried setting the CPU external frequency to 200Mhz and when it restarted it gave the processor as an XP 1346Mhz instead of 2800+ in the post. I've set the Memory frequency as 200Mhz (by selecting SPD) and that seems ok. Any ideas about the cpu external frequency, perhaps i'm missing something, or not understanding something which is more likely :( The mobo is an A7N8X deluxe is thats any help.

  4. Well i updated to SP2 yesterday and ran the PC all day pretty intensively and i didn't get a crash once. I also cleaned out the interior and the fans. I've ordered some new faster RAM (its all i can afford to upgrade on my student loan :( ) which should be here soon. Hopefully the problem is solved, thanks for all your help :)

    UPDATE:

The RAM came today, nice service Dabs :) I've got three sticks of PC3200, at 512 Mb each. When it boots up it says the memory is running at 166Mhz in dual channel mode (or words to that affect). I have the Asus A7N8X deluxe mobo, and within the manual it mentions running the memory frequency by SPD. At the moment i have it set to auto, when i run it at SPD in the BIOS it boots up at 200Mhz in dual channel mode (or words to that effect). Any ideas as to the best way to run it? I only ask as the CPU external frequeny is also running at 166Mhz, with the option to run it at 200Mhz (which i suppose is overclocking?) and i'm not sure the fastest, but most stable way to go.

    Cheers.

  5. Firstly i've not changed any hardware or installed any new drivers within the last couple of months, yet now i'm getting this damn blue screen of death telling me there are device driver errors etc. I've copied the "technical" bit at the bottom:

    Stop 0X0000008E (0XC0000005, 0X053CFD1,0XEB76CB5C,0X00000000).

I'm at a real loss as to what is wrong or what to do, nothing shows up in the device manager as being wrong and i've done scans with Spybot and Adware. I tried doing a virus scan but the PC won't stay on long enough to let it finish without crashing. Its only started happening today and i'm stumped. I'll list my DxDiag to. Oh, the startup as been a bit slow for the last few months and sometimes opening up new folders takes a bit longer than usual. Hope its not the HDD :(

Hope someone can point me in the right direction.

    MrC.

  6. CS: Source is pretty much still a run and gunner, at least every time i have played it. SWAT 4 is anything but, unless it has been totally changed since the SP and MP demos! I don't think it looks dated either, and the game has a lot of potential if the Swat MOD community takes to it as keenly as they did Swat 3. This has everything I hoped Raven Shield would give me. I only hope that it can hold its ground in todays FPS saturated market. I for one shall be spending a lot of time with this title. :D

I'm happy with my gfx card and my soundcard, and i can't really afford anymore than £150, perhaps £200 at the most. I was considering overclocking the CPU but as i have no experience with that, and i can't afford to bust this PC, I not to keen on doing it myself. Any suggestions would be welcome.

    Thanks, MrC.

  8. I've got to agree with Argyll here. I had high hopes for this game to, it runs sweet on my rig but the gameplay is just so-so. I hope something is done to tweak the aiming, i am a crap aim but i know when ive shot someone or not and they don't want to drop. Anyways, ill keep it in case there is a good modding scene in the future.

  9. Silly problem but one thats bugging me. I have a Logitech Internet Navigator keyboard (PS2) with the latest drivers installed, but i don't think its configured to a UK setup,eg. to get the @ function i have to press SHIFT+2. On my other PC i can press SHIFT+' .

Anyone know how i can change this?

    Cheers for any help :)

  10. I've just installed the Nvidia Stereo drivers, as i want to use my E-D glasses again, but the stereo tab under the GeForce gfx options isn't there. I have tried reinstalling my gfx drivers, Detonator 44.03, but its still not there. I have installed the software that comes with the E-D glasses but the Nvidia gfx drivers on the CD-ROM are quite old. I've tried installing them and the stereo drivers on the disk, (same version as on Nvidia site..30.87). The stereo setting shows up then but when i update the gfx drivers it goes again. Problem with the 44.03's ? Should i try an earlier Detonator driver, maybe the 43.xx's Any help would result in a big wet kiss.

  11. I have a pair, they're ok but they do need tweaking so as to not give you headache. Which is what i get after prolonged gaming with them. GR does look superb though, crawling up to a bush will blow your socks off! And Morrowind is breath taking, looking at a candle with the flame gently flickering will make you stand and stare for ages.

  12. @ Earl, my God! I know what a fine mod maker you are for GR but i had no idea how good your OFP stuff was. That is some of the best material I've seen for OFP. I can't wait till the stuff is released.

@Para. If you release it to the public I'm sure it would be well accepted. I wish you luck with it anyway. And there can never be enough quality addons for any game. IMO 75% of the addons released for OFP are crap anyway, mostly due to lack of originality as you pointed out.

  13. @Para, yeah i know about that bug...how the hell could the Devs have missed that one

I only ever play MP using sockets now, i can't even remember where my OFP disk is, i only ever use the Res one. The new 1.92 patch should bring some nice touches, if the rumours are anything to go by!! So even though it is an oldish game, with all its little faults...its still a bloody good MP game if you give it time. If anyone wants a little coop game some time just pm me ;)

  14. I'm with you on banning MOH ;) But going back to OFP, I've been playing it since its release and although it has had it fair share of problems, the MP using Direct Play was the worst I've ever known...fixed once Res came out with improved netcode :D , It still holds some charm for me. Alright some of the gfx arn't that great and the sound isn't perfect and it shares some of GR's faults,(eg, close combat is iffy; moving in buildings could be better; swimming, jumping is a no no), it also shares some of GR's finer points, a superb modding community,)check out this total conversion for example http://koti.mbnet.fi/fdfmod/index.html plenty of people to play online with, and a sequal that hopefully will fullfill all of the fans requirements.

I play both OFP:Res and GR as they are both great games. Although I'm new to GR I couldn't choose between them. They both have strong and weak points and I will be playing them for a long time to come.
