  1. TRC, The main benefit of disk brakes is that they stay out of the mud and the water so you get maximum stopping power all the time, and no squealing. A cable disk brake won't be anymore efficient than a set of V brakes, but a hydraulic one will provide a huge amount of stopping power that can be applied using one finger, and a good hydraulic disk brake (Hope or Hayes, maybe shimano - never tried em) will also give you very good control over how much friction you apply. I'd reccomend them, just make sure you get them set up right from the start or they're more trouble than they're worth. Get them set up right tho, and you can forget about them and leave them to do the job.

I've never had a flat using my IRC Kujo tires, and I regularly jump off things 5ft+ onto concrete. They're really meant for DH, but you can get them in sizes 2.1, 2.35 and 2.6". The 2.1, kevlar beaded would be a very good all round tire.

  2. Hey, if you do urban stuff like me you want a set of bomb proof wheels, I don't know what you run at the moment but I run 24" wheels which are really cool for tight urban stuff, and encredibly strong: Sun Double wide rims on Hope Hubs, with a 20mm bolt through axle up front and 12mm bolt through on the back for max strength (The axles are dependent on your frame and forks though). A good set of Hydraulic disk brakes would be a worthy upgrade too and would fit into your price range. If you're looking for a new saddle I'd reccomend SDG as they are the best that I've tried: The bel air is a pretty cool saddle and you can get it tons of different models - Ti rails, steel rails, kevlar, and a heap of cool colors (mines cow print :)). Other things that I always seem to be upgrading are bars, stems, seatpost, tires.

I ride DH, Urban, Singletrack, Jumps. I used to ride loads of XC as a child but my current bike is a DS/FR machine which I custom built the current spec is:

    Frame: Cortina Europa DS

    Forks: Marzocchi Z1 QR20

Brakes: Hope Enduro 4 (F) Hope Mino ®

    Cranks: Race Face Turbine

    Chain Guide: MRP Slalom

    Transmition: Shimano XT

    Stem: Kona DH CNC

    Bars: Easton EA50

    Saddle: SDG Bel Air

    Tyres: IRC Kujo 2.35*24"

    Rims: Sun Doublewide 24"

    Hubs: Hadley 20mm (F) Hope Bulb ®

I'm building up a XC bike at the moment too, and I'm gonna get back into that. If you need any advice about parts, drop me a message: - I know my stuff :P (I'll be here for the rest of the day, but then i'll be away for 2 weeks)

  3. Yeah I'm pretty impressed with the far cry engine - I really can not wait for this game! I downloaded some of the videos. They also seem to have made a really user friendly map editing program which the demonstrate in the video.

  7. but is wrecking anglo-french relations be a bad thing?

I'm part French, part British and I believe that having close-ties with Europe can be a great and fruitful thing, the UK is almost unique in having a very good relationship with the USA whilst being in Europe. I don't quite understand why we feel that we need to choose between one or the other, when we could embrace both.

If s**ty tabloids like the Sun didn't go around creating these sort of problematic racist ideas, then would you know why we supposedly hate France, or even that we did at all? This is just my own opinion of course, maybe you've had some sort of personal experience that would enable you to reach this conclusion.

Sorry if i sound hostile :P, but I just think more people in this country should form their own opinions instead of adopting those of the tabloids.
