  1. Spyder.....

How did ya end up in the end then m8 (hadn't realised we spent nearly 4 hours on ICQ last nite either getting you on the right road rofl, doesn't time fly rofl)!!

Did you succesfully delete all those files in the end etc?? Hope ya managed it and things have improved for ya anyway :)!!

  2. Spyder......

I know you've gone off to try a boot in safe mode after contact on ICQ....

But incase ya can't get on ICQ but ya can here and you run into problems etc (and this will also be here FYI for others too should they find themselves in similar difficulty too :( )!!!

Ya Trojan is looking most likely to be a Multidropper, (hence the name Muldrop in one of the files). That is like an initiator put in the simplest of terms basically. It then kinda drops other Trojans as it works, the crafty little barsteward (Trojans can't replicate like Virii can, so some clever sod designed themselves one that multidrops numerous Trojans for maximum damage to those unlucky enough to get lumped obviously :(, which is why you now have several different types of Trojan reported on your system, when ordinarily other Trojans wouldn't create others in that manner :(!!!

Alarmingly Norton don't seem to have any indepth definitions or information on it yet, so whether this is a new one or what I dunno???? Either way it could be why your Norton missed it in the first place if it's set to Auto-Detect etc!!

  3. OK, hope ya still here and ya comp hasn't died :)!!

TRYING TO GET YOU ON ICQ TOO, TURN YA ICQ ON M8!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

On Windows desktop, right-click My Computer > Properties.

    Click the Performance tab.

    Click File System.

    Click the Troubleshooting tab.

Check Disable System Restore, click OK, and then click Close.

Click Yes to restart. This disables the System Restore feature and will purge the contents of the _RESTORE folder when the system is restarted.

Run LiveUpdate and download the latest virus definitions, and then get scanning like mad lol.

Once ya happy that you've got em, then go back thru and un-check the Disable System Restore Box :)!!

That should get you on your way to purging your evil residents and hopefully you'll be a happier chappy again too :)!!

    Good luck :)!

  4. Aha, I can see now why it may not be allowing you to delete them, it's very cleverly put the files into your "System Restore" directory and it won't allow you to delete files from there whilst "System Restore" is enabled!!

You may be OK yet :)!!

If you have a new one though it sounds like it's reproducing versions of itself or growing by adding different types of Trojans etc. In the meantime try to avoid rebooting your computer, butyou will have to reboot to turn off your "Sys Restore" tho, but them hopefully you can get rid of the damn things :)!!

Now I'm trying to rack my brains to remember how to turn off the Sys Restore in WinME LMAO.....Can't believe I've forgotten such basic info already LOL......If you know how to do it tho whilst I refresh my memory as I'm getting this post up here quick if ya only here for a short time.......

Then Disable ya System Restore, then you should be able to either...

    A) Right click on the individual files and delete them manually, or

    B) Run Norton again and Norton may be able to remove them for you when the Sys Restore is disabled.....

Go to it, and will go remind myself how to disable the Sys Restore in ME, just got too used to using XP so much of late that's all rofl!!! And don't worry about disabling Restore either, once those evil files are out you can enable it again and it should be fine :)! Then get NAV running overtime, it should work properly once they are out :)!!

  5. Just brought one (for a laff lol). Actually went out to buy a second DVD Player (well sort of, the other one is a full DVD-RW/DVD-RAM Recorder too), but once in the shop then thought, what the heck, the PS2 plays the damn things anyway so why not just have the added function of being able to play games on the thing too, for near the same price as a standard DVD Player anyway LMAO :)!!!

Just wondering if there are any worthwhile upgrades or gadgets to get for the PS2 as I really haven't got a clue on Consoles at all and what's available for them etc lol. Never really bothered with em, what with mainly using PC's for years and years really. I did get a sold seperately Remote Control for the DVD's as 1 extra, but left it at that for today at least hehe. If it means anything to whats available too??? It's the Silver coloured type, it came with 2 Controllers/Gamepads and the free game was "International Cue Club" (should be a laff too rofl)!!

Am thinking a Memory Pack/Card (whatever they call em for the PS2) would obviously be a good idea to start with to save games etc, or can you save a game without one too as a question for those in the know on them (told ya I knew nuthin about Consoles though hehe, and it's against all my ethics to read the instruction manual too hehehe)??

What upgrades can you stick in the larger Bay thingy in the back too please lol??

And to do for now, the USB ports on the PS2, are they compatible with any PC devices that any of you may know of, or do you need to buy PS2 specific kit that will work in them too please lol??

Any help andadvise from people who know the PS2 well for a newbie to one would be useful and appreciated thanx. And, before anyone has a go at me for not paying too much attention to the damn manual as well rofl, 9 times outta 10 they aren't much use anyway and I know I can get far better info and advise from people here too who have direct experience, generally always proves much more informative!!

Look forward to any info and advise anyone may have thanx :)!!!

  6. Have you not heard of Interpol Magnum hehehe :P ???

If cases of spam sent to the UK are serious enough to qualify as a criminal amount (granted that would have to be a pretty stupid amount of the stuff initially lol), then suspects can be pursued through Interpols system Internationaly just like any other criminal matter concerning suspects overseas who have either fled the UK or have launched their attacks from external sources anyway!!! As long as the UK Constabularies do all the ground work and putting respective cases together as normal, then Interpol will probably happily make arrests and charge those concerned where ever they may be located where applicable. As it seems the UK system won't carry a Prison sentence and only finings too, then it makes it even more attractive for cases to be pursued globally, and certainly countries within the EU to a partial extent are covered by juristiction (sort of rofl, bit more complicated than just that but itcan be done without too much grief these days)!!

That's not the issue really though. It's more down to how seriously the world is going to start to take the ongoing Spam issues as a threat or the nuisance that it truly is, and it seems that more and more people are finally getting fed up enough with it all to take it that seriously, about time too. Think most here get fed up with the constant barrage of the stuff eventually lol!! The more Nations that follow suit will hopefully see "Spamming" becoming a very undesirable past time for those concerned :)!!

  7. LOL No Probs m8 :)!!

Understood.......If ya coding in VB anyway, maybe you could push a bit further to modifying the plug-in for Photoshop yaself, or scripting ya own plug-in for the RSB's to display in VB anyway hehehe?? Suggestion made obviously not knowing why ya want to display the RSB's in VB anyway however, and how good you are with VB too lol (assuming you may be doing it for a School project or something tho lol??)?? So probably still of absolutely no use to you, sorry :(!!

In not knowing why you want to display the RSB's in VB too, all I can sugget is that you could cheat hehehe :P ......As said the RSBeditor isn;t just that, it converts files too.....Batch convert the RSB's to TGA, then use another app to batch convert them to BMP's and that way you can display em in VB to ya hearst content too hehehe :-"

I know I know, I'll go pee up that rope now LOL :shifty: !!

  8. Spyder.....

Got ya PM and have temporarily added you to my ICQ if we cross paths on there lol, I'm UK and probably a different Time zone to you completely though lol???

Otherwise, list what the names of these Virus/Trojan Applications or Filenames that NAV is telling you they are heree as well, that "may" help us in getting you the right cleaner to hopefully get these sods off ya system for you :)!

Did you also make up the Emergency Virus discs with NAV too??....If so, that will help you out in DOS as well. Just stick Disc 1 into ya floppy drive, reboot, pop into ya BIOS and change the Boot Sequence to boot the Floppy as the "First Boot Device" and that will automatically take you straight into DOS and it "should" give you a DOS version of NAV to work with to finding the files as well. It can then do a scan from DOS and if it can find the files from there itself, it may even delete the files for you without you having to manually search for them too :)!! Certainly worth a try.

Otherwise, the names of these suspect Files would be of great help to helping you m8!!

  9. Ya simplest way is going to be to convert the RSB's (or "Red Storm Bitmaps" as the file extension stands for (FYI if you hadn't found that out in your searches etc and it's not a common file extension obviously, just a file extension Red Stom made up for use in their games etc blah blah lol)) into standard BMP's or even TGA's if you prefer (as GR will recognise TGA files ingame too as they are), and then view and work on them in VB to your hearts content really.

The RSB plugin is designed to work with Adobe Photoshop 6 or 7, but it works too with Paintshop Pro (although some have also had problems trying to save files once they have changed them in PSP too, so Adobe is ya best bet there)!!

If you use the RSB plugin with Adobe, then really you don't need VB at all for working with the RSB's too :)!!!

If you want to persevere with VB anyway and do conversions etc too, there is also an RSB converter (that converts the files to TGA format) tucked away in one of the "Extra's" directories on the GR, DS or IT install CD's too (if it makes it easier for you to find, use the Find File utility and search for "RSBEditor.exe" on the CD, that's the name of the converter on the CD :)!!

But using the plug-in directly with Photoshop is certainly the easiest and quickest way and basically you can make all the changes you need and more there too :)!

Hope that's of some use to ya :)!!

  10. Some of these clever new Viruses are a real pain m8, MSBlast for example seems to have a mysterious facility to stop Norton AV updating online and in some cases stops it scanning altogether too. Despite Firewalls and Norton AV, MSBlast still found its way onto my system before many of the AV software manufacturers had a chance to sus the Virus out and issue the updates or the stand-alone cleaners when it first got out, it's possible that you have something like that m8 :(!!??!! I'm not saying you have for sure obviously, but that is a known effect of MSBlast if you have!! The W.32 Klez series can do that too!!

On Nortons Website there is a stand-alone cleaner for MSBlast, Klez and other well known Trojans and Viruses that you can download and run and it will clean the ###### of ya system, obviously hoping that it hasn;t done any damage too. I got away with it, but a freinds system had many of his XP files overwritten by false updated ones and he was right up ###### creek and the only cure was a format and re-install too :(!!

Also on the Windows update sites there is an update that can offer greater protection against MSBlast for example too, (if you haven't already of course), get yaself over there and dload and install that too :)!

Otherwise I've never had any poblems with Norton AV such as you mention, only when I knew I had MSBlast and got the same errors. Once that was sorted then Norton AV ran fine again too!! If all that has nothing to do with it, then obviously try unb-instyalling and re-installing it incase it was a bad install etc, it does happen occasionly too obviously.

Other than that the Norton AV's are very easy to use and laid out for simple operation. Hope ya get somewhere with it but if ya need more indepth help on how best to operate it or set up some of the more advanced features etc them just post back, many here use it and can no doubt help you out and give further suggestions to possible causes as it could be a number, I've just mentioned one that I experienced that's all :)!! Good Luck!!

  11. Heya Snakebite,

Yeh, very valid point m8 as ever :)!

Granted some poeple will always have problems with certain kit I do agree, but having read thru all of those posts last nite I can't remember ever seeing so many all complaining of the same issues for other kit if ya know what I mean lol, many of them with no direct cure to them either, it isn't encouraging reading even if you know that forums in general do have to be taken with a pinch of salt much of the time too as you say!! For the same problems to be so widespread and repeated so much means that something isn't as it should be I suspect, but as you say hopefully we'll get to the bottom of it and a return is obviously going to have to be the next course of action and see what the retialer comes up with etc.

Will keep anyone interested posted on the outcome of course :)!!

  12. Heya guys, good to see ya too :)!!

    OK....replies lol.....

Chef-Scott, yeh, I knew about the ctrl-f1 function for the hidden BIOS settings, but all that really adds is options for altering memory timings, latencies etc and a few other options that have no direct bearing on the problem in hand, but thanx for ya suggestion m8 :)!

Dark Ranger, yeh we also cleared the CMOS (BTW, the battery needs to be removed for nearer 20 minutes for it to be sucesful too if you ever encounter any problems of ya own in the future too m8, removing it for 60 secs or so doesn't seem to clear it lol! Interesting to note as per ya suggestion tho to the "System Board" in the Device Manager on his comp too. It hasn't got the caution marks etc to draw attention to a problem, but if you look at its properties it does say the drivers are not installed for the device, even tho we know they are, (also a few other items say that the drivers aren't installed at all even tho they are too, and they have been tried with every driver version and Service Pack available too. Other items saying that no drivers are installed are the System Timer, System Speaker, DMA Controller (how the hell the comp even works if that driver isn't installed I'll never know rofl), Numeric Data Processor too and a couple of others, all core components that if they weren't installed as per the warning the Comp simply wouldn't even run, or would it rofl)???

There's also no option to disable the ACPI in the BIOS Dark Ranger, if there was then that would hopefully sort the problem instantly, but Gigabyte seemingly didn't bother to include that one lol!! And no, there is no UPS system or batteries installed on his system m8, thanx for ya input too tho m8, although it hasn't helped to change anything this time, any suggestions help so if ya have anymore then feel free, it is appreciated :)!!

Rook and Snakebite, yeh, looks like we may either try putting the F9 BIOS on his system, or maybe even try flashing to F13, or even the F14 version that has just been released too, that may help it??? At least you can Flash backwards as well as forwards, which is handy if a later BIOS isn't too hot etc!!

I'm steering towards his Mobo being outright knackered tho basically, although I've never had a problem with Gigabyte MoBo's myself either, my freind has sworn he will never get another with the Gigabyte Tech Support being so utterly crap and basically non-existant and TBH, from what I've seen here I'll never get another either, which is a shame as the boards have some very nice features even if they aren't the best for OC'ing etc, which isn't a priority to him or me admittedly, which is another reason why we got them too!! We both just wanted functionality with features and OC'ing isn't something either are worried about really :)!!

Also was reading thru a website concerning the GA-7VAXP last nite for him too. There were hundreds of posts on the board, unfortunately many of them reportingproblems with it:(. It seems that this board is well known for many issues, problems and outright failures and that too has seriously put doubt in my mind as to where Gigabyte are headed :(. I wish to hell now that I had gone with the choice I was 50/50 over when buying this board of getting an Asus rofl, he is wishing that he went for an Asus or A-Bit too after all this trubble. Oh well, hopefully we'll sort summat soon, just a shame it may have cost money to find out the hard way that these boards may have some deep seated issues and it's also worthy of note that many retailers have now removed the 7VAXP from their shelves too :(!!

Check out http://www.hardwareanalysis.com/content/to...topic/2367/?o=0 if ya interested, you won't believe the amount of posts there are on this forum, MOST of them (didn't count but certainly 500+) complain of problems and issues. It seems that this board is not very reliable at all, whether it is due to poor working practises when manufacturing the boards or other issues remains to be seen, but something seems very very wrong with these boards Worldwide too. Wish we both has seen all of this info before we both paid out for em too lol, Goldarnit!!

  13. Hey all,

Hope all you regulars are well :)?????

Have been drawing blanks on a problem my freinds comp has and he's getting to the point of dropping his Comp out of the 3rd floor Window hehe, just wondering if any "Gigabyte MoBo owners" have seen summat similar to the following before and may know of a cure for the poor guy please lol. I promised him I'd ask where there was a good chance that one of the people would know something to help him :)!!!

What it is, he has exactly the same MoBo as me (Gigabyte GA-7VAXP, (BIOS flashed to the factory standard at the time of purchase to F11 BTW)), only he has this problem that if he fully "Shuts Down" his comp, that on a "Cold" restart the next day or maybe even 1/2 hour or so later, he gets a Blue Screen and an error msg saying that the system is not ACPI compliant even though it is lol (and it advises disabling the ACPI etc etc). There is no option in the BIOS like A-Bit or Asus MoBo's have either for example to disable the ACPI options at all, so it can't even be disabled to stop this problem that way lol. If he does a normal "Hot" Re-Boot/Restart, the problem doesn't manifest itself at all either and restarts absolutely fine with no problems at all, it ONLY happens when the Comp has been completely shut down for a period of time. And, it is then a total ###### to get his Comp started again too obviously :(!!

As said, I have exactly the same MoBo (also flashed to F11 presently too) and haven't had or seen this problem (both running Win XP Home Ed too), so has anyone ever come across this before please and know of a cure???

It is his self build, the parts supplier suspected a H/D to our utter dismay lol, and on changing it for a brand new one to humour them, low and behold as some may expect, no joy there either, it wasn't that at all. Monitoring the CPU for errors has been carried out and that all checks out OK too, the Memory has been tested and tried one module at a time etc, and even alternatives of known perfect Memory tried and still it does it too. All cables too have been swapped for known working ones and still it does it so all his kit is absolutely 100%. The PSU is also fine andhas more than enough to cope with the kit etc (also, if it was that, why would it Reboot fine, but then cause this problem only when the Comp has been Shut Down and then Started Up again later too lol)????

Essentially, everything is functioning exactly as it should be with no errors at all except for this problem on Starting Up the Comp if it was completely switched off????? Real frustrater that one :wall: !!

Anyone wanna take a crack at this one please guys lol (before I have a suicided freind (eeeeeekkkk lol)) :)???

He's promised many pints of beer to anyone who can think of any possibles for it (dread to think how he's gonna email beer tho hehehe)!!?????!!????

  14. LMAO.......

Typical lol, one of the 120gig drives has a nasty fault and has gotta go back lol, too late now but may just get another extra one and consider using mirroring as I'm going to lose my system drive for a few days lol!!

See ya when I get it back lol!!!!

  15. I have an older SD-R1002 still floatin about and under WinME or previous it would never install as a full Combi CD-RW and DVD drive, only as a CD and DVD-ROM. Under XP the necassary drivers are installed and it recognises it fully as both with no problems!! Assume you aren't running XP on ya laptop???

There is a driver you can get hold of to try on their website that is supposed to run all of the drives called cddrv224.zip!!

I never had to use it as the old comp that it came with had the manufacturers WinME Restore CD's and not just a normal copy of WinME etc! That had the drivers on for the drive so it was always recognised under ME because of that! I put it into another comp with an OE version of ME though and thats when I had to get hold of the driver mentioned as the same thing happened to me, but I pulled the Drive itself out of their to use in this system for the time being and XP installed it correctly lol!!!

  16. LOL, thanx for replies .........

Thanx WK......I have got 2 x 120gb drives, just forgot to update my Sig rofl!!!

Phantom........I thought it was "Mirroring" that basically copied the data of ide-0 and striping just enabled it as another drive???? It's set to Striping at the moment and it doesn't copy ide-0 at all lol?????

I'm not too worried about mirroring at the moment TBH as striping seems to be fine (just want it as another drive basically) and all drivers etc are OK and it's absolutely fine, I was just wondering if anyone had any do's and don'ts kinda thing lol, and any other useful info on using it etc :o)!

I know the drives have to be exactly the same size for Mirroring, but can they be different sizes too if set to Striping??? Also, I can change the mode from Raid to SATA for the additional IDE chans, do you have to have a specific HD for use with SATA or will any drive work with it too, I suspect it's the former tho lol :)!

  17. Anyone who has used RAID or is using RAID!!!

Hopefully some have got some tips and advise on getting the best out of it and any particulars with using it etc!!!

Any info people can give on it thru experience would be appreciated please :)! Not sure I am using it to its best effect and would like to know of the little things to get the best out of it etc....Cheers peeps :)!

  18. Same thing happened to me and the only way I could adjust it too was lower the resolution back to 1024x768 instead, which is a shame as the quality of everything else at 1280x1024 was absolutely stunning to say the least and one hell of a diference over 1024x768 too!!

Would be very interested if anyone has come across a way to address that one too :)???????

  19. Ya not alone with that in the US unfortunately Phantom, it's also very much happened here in the UK too!!

Vets aren't half as acknowledged for the sacrafices they made for the good of others as they used to be and it's a real shame! Many individuals and families historically have lost a lot so others could go on living better lives and the recognition for so doing has become less and less over the years :o(!

As per the quote, the end does seem to be far more important than the means to many detatched from personal loss or sacrafice when the means should ultimately always be remembered too!!

  20. ROFLMAO :)!

Thanx for the link zjj, it all becomes clear now I can see what they're talking about hehehe!!!

Looks like it could be a bit of a hoot that game hehehe, mite just have to shortlist that one :rocky: !!!

If you guys get the full version be sure to post back and tell us what you think of it too!!

Nightmare, have you actually got the full game or a demo m8 out of interest?? If I get it I don't know if I should look forward to the "Naked" mod or not LMAO!!! You should have no trouble naming it anyway lol, just call it "Deviant" or summat lololol ;)

  21. @Stinger,

I wish you'd read posts properly sometimes before jumping in with both feet m8!!! It's a shame that WhiteKnight had to lock a previous thread and give a little warning of recent issues for and amongst other things you doing just that as it denies others the opportunity to further contribute usefully. And in being completely honest Stinger, of late there is an ever increasing frequency of arrogance in how you reply to people that share the forum with you and there seems to be less constructivness in any information you forward in favour of criticism or argumentative responses to anyone who may not share your personal opinion :o(!

To sort this one out as frankly I'm a little tired of having posts picked apart by you that you just don't seem to have read properly before replying, rather than information that I or others post that you seem to presume as being constantly incorrect . Like Phantom "for example purposes", if I don't know or am unsure about something I don't reply to posts either and obviously leave it to someone who does. I don't contribute for the hell of it or to read my own words Stinger!! I too don't know it all but people share this forum to ask for advise and if I do know something then I can offer it like anyone else and speak from experience.

If you do have a re-read....It doesn't say anywhere in my post that the latest drivers are "specifically" for the "FX" series of cards, I simply called them by their full name which is the "Nvidia 44.03 Detonator FX driver", that was all!!! The fact that I too have a GF4 Ti4200 in plain sight in my Sig and also saying that I had downloaded the 44.03 drivers further backs that up, if the drivers were for the FX cards only then I wouldn't have downloaded them for a Ti4200 that is not an FX card would I?????

Yes benchmarks will give some useful information as to how cards and drivers will perform and generally what can be expected, after all that's exactly what a benchmark is. But as it also clearly says in my post too, individual systems vary massively out there and what works on one persons machine flawlessly may be problematic on someone elses (Dark Ranger contributed with a very good example of it right here too). A system that was used as a benchmark may be completely different to thousands of others, that was the point being made if you had read it m8!!

Having a card or drivers for "1 DAY 1 DAY", as you put it too and benchmarking them only really gives you benchmarks for that system and after that a general idea of what can be expected on others, it's not an exact process for every system!! Ultimately they give no indication of the overall reliability of a card or drivers, their long term performance, performance with software applications that may be installed at a later time or hardware that may be installed later too, all things that can have a degree of effects on later benchmarks and different systems!! It takes time to get that sort of information for "Real World" comparisons to be made and it needs to come from many different sources to be of any real practical use!! That's one reason why I haven't installed the 44.03 drivers myself in any rush. I'm waiting to get a feel for the general concensus of their performance and effectiveness as my current drivers give both excellent benchmarks and performance as they are within games etc and where possible and like many others I often use a process of "If it ain't broke" lol!!

The forum essentially isn't a competition Stinger, it's here for all to share and contribute m8, all I'm asking is that you allow that without pulling individuals posts apart thinking that you posses some form of superior knowledge or assuming that others just contribute with anything they can dream or make up for the hell of it :)!

  22. There is also the latest Nvidia 44.03 Detonator FX driver update that you could "consider" if interested too.....

How anyone can compare the stability of them to other older versions in the real world and know for 100% certain just yet is unclear, they were only released 1 week ago lol :)! On paper they should be far better but there's really only one way to find out obviously lol! If you can't find them at guru.com then try nvidia.com instead!

As per Phantoms method I have personally always looked to get updated drivers from the card manufacturer first that are specific to the card/chipset from them in the past, if no luck there then I have got them from sources such as guru.com or the official Nvidia website etc instead (or ATI when it's been applicable lol) :)! 90% of the time this has paid off and although a manufacturers driver may be slightly older sometimes they have almost always worked better from experience, have only had a couple of times when they haven't and I've had to adjust!!

I've downloaded the 44.03 drivers but haven't installed them yet admittedly lol, no doubt will try them very soon though as the latest drivers should be better in theory and it's no biggie to revert back if they don't work as well :)!

Hope ya update goes succesfully and smoothly :)!

  23. LOL Phantom :)! I dunno m8, there is tons of excellent and informative input we have here to thank you for, also put very eloquently lol :)!

It just frequently seems to get forgotten that not all computers in use in the world need the most expensive or best bit of kit bolted onto or plugged into them to be useful, efficient and good at what they do. Computers will always have their infinite variables of use for any individual need and with that infinite circumstances that require different applications of hardware and software as required that will work optimally under any given scenario.

These days, no 2 Comps (well, essentially PC's anyway) beyond the Warehouse, Showroom or Personaly Built are really the same anymore anyway lol, once an End User has got stuck in and set it all up their way for the very purpose they required it for, adding what hardware or software they essentially need :)!

What something is required to do when used correctly makes all equipment excellent. It's only "Crap" if used incorrectly and not by personal opinions at all lol :)! Your advice is right on the money :rocky:
