  1. 2000 is more stable I will say that. I had ME once when it was new and did my ritual format and reinstall weekly so I dont care for the program. (in fact my old boss affectionately called it windows MF to explain it) but opions aside. I know of several people running gr on 2000 with no issues.

I would look to see on the current video drivers that would be the first to look. I assume you looked at my post earlier to see if there was missing textures. if you do a gr reinstall again after you do a normal uninstall and before you slap the cd in to install, go to where the files are located (default is program files red storm entertainment) rename the folder there to ghost recon old or some such and reinstall again. I have reinstalled before and notice that it dosent remove all the folders when I do a uninstall. you can give that a whirl if you would like to see what happens.

anyways keep us uptodate we will hammer it out for you.

  2. if the structures are white it could be missing textures in the map folder or you dont have ds or it enabled and a map you are playing whants to use that texture.

haveing the correct video drives also may correct the problem. when I had an fx 5200 all my ghosts where black shadows. (sucked at a night time map) but that turned to a video driver thing

  3. oh I was also thinking they may have changed it at the font level see if the mod in question has this rsb new_font_revised.rsb that should be all the letters in the game so maybe they tweeked it.

note this should have though have disabled the color once the mod was deactivated though.

let me know what you find out

  4. If you look in your root gr folder you will find a file called options.xml

use microsoft word/notepad to open the file and it should list all of your options ingame. even the stuff that isnt there like your font color. my guess is that one of your mods overwrote the file and gave you red letters. here is an exerp from my options. These settings should be defaut gr settings. copy the info to match and you should be good to go.

    <ReticuleColorR>255</ReticuleColorR>

    <ReticuleColorG>214</ReticuleColorG>

    <ReticuleColorB>17</ReticuleColorB>

    <ReticuleIFFColorR>160</ReticuleIFFColorR>

    <ReticuleIFFColorG>200</ReticuleIFFColorG>

    <ReticuleIFFColorB>255</ReticuleIFFColorB>

PS you can change the color of your reticle to any color that you want! comes in handy to have it a bit brighter when playing multiplayer.

  5. ok Im not sure what you mean that myip.com gave you a diffrent address than what gr did. unless your gr addy was a 192.168.x.x number in which case you were not really connected to the internet and what you got at myip.com was a saved page in laymans terms.

I think we need a bit more info such as who is hosting (the pc or the mac) are yall connected via lan (same home) or wan (via internet). is there firewall software running? (for intance yes xp has a firewall see my post earlier, zone alarm, black ice ect ect)

once that is done see if you can ping him.

(I dont know macs so I have no Idea how to ping on a mac but www.tracert.com has a ping function that works great if you have to use something)

let us know (white knight and soto are very knowledgeable about networks) and plus they spell better than I do

  6. ok

well not much to go on to give you specifics

first if you post what type of firewall you have someone here will be glad to give you a more step by step setup. (if the firewall is attached to a router model of the router is great too)

that once said gr uses these ports by default 2346-2348 although you can technicaly change that from your multiplayer tab in the options menu. but those are the ports that I would stick with. if you have that range forwarded to your computer you should be good to go and other should be able to "locate" you once they hit your ip address.

    what your ip address.

Since it changes my advice is to look it up each time. There is a way you can use a dynamic dns service like no-ip.com ect. that you wont have to worry about it but that entails a lot of setup work. so how do you look it up? easiest way are to go to one of these addresses

    http://www.ipchicken.com

    http://www.whatismyipaddress.com

    or

    http://www.myipaddress.com/

one of those works really well. My preference is ipchicken cause it has a funny logo :D oh and doesnt have popups

and I am a slow typer cause white knight just beat me dito to what he said

  7. These are good guys. :D

    I have one too

one time when I was still a nooB Me and my buddy are on the roof of the MBC. I was snipeing he was the gernader so while I was shoot'n the guys from afar he was supposed to cover my back.

well he gets this BIG IDEA that he will roll the gernades off the edge of the MBC wall and have them fall down directly below killing anyone who tries to get near the stairs. well Im at the wall shooting away when I get this on coms

    (Jester) oops

    I said

(Brass) oops what do ya mean oops

looking up I see on the ledge a foot from my face, here was his opps. In the panicked mad dash of trying to stand and run Like H..E..double hocky sticks my nooB fingers hit the laydow button instead of standing up. about that time the nade blew to smitherines. When the smoke cleared I was still laying down unhurt and my fried was dead. The nade had apearently been too high above me and so the wall ledge saved my camo from being a shrapnel pin cushion. I dont know what the moral of the story is but dumb luck is better than no luck.

Oh I lied I have a few more

Our clan The Alamo Gunfighters take pride in perfecting our skills. But sometimes even we cant believe the stupidity of our actions.

Our clan was playing a team last man game against thankfully our other clan members. When my brother pops in (SKIP009) and we all anouce our weapons of choice. he gleefully yells he has an OICW GL.

    (Brass) Great! we need nades

we popin and our clan's M O is to drop a sensor at base for the spawn campers out there GRRRRRRRRRRR. well I hear on coms

    (Skip009) laying a sensor!

    BOOM

I think it was the fastest last man game I've ever seen. none of my team made it 3 steps. at the aftermath we have dubed a new name for a squad in our clan known only as the Friendly Fire Boys. (and yes you guessed it Skips the president)

My last story is just kind of funny thing of GOOD STRATAGIES GONE WRONG

we are on the ds beach map and we are getting slaughtered so we decide to dday it up the right hand choke point above the tents. figureing once we can get a foot hold we could take back the lead. when my buddy came up with this advice.

(Targetme) Ok guys if weeee CRESSSSST the HILL at the SAME TIME he cant get us both.

I dont know about anyone else but there was a flaw in that logic. couldn't quite figure it out though in the heat of the moment what it was. I remebered when the oicw took out my squad. and then nuked me a second later. Thats right it was GOOD STRATAGIES GONE WRONG.

but to give targetme credit we did kill the guy but not untill we all got zapped.

    1 shot 1 kill 4 deaths

anyways I still laugh at the rememberable gr moments

  8. My best kill ever was with a hand gernade. I was on the plantation map and I noticed that a tango (my friend) was in the warehouse. so I tried to flush him out throwing hand gernades through the doorway so I could pop him in the windows when he retreated just as I threw the first nade through the door I see the door closeing. (a favorite ploy of my friend to get you while you open the door) I almost wet myself laughing knowing that he wasnt going to have time to finish closeing the door and to get away. all the while seing that nade so beatifully placed at his feet

    :rocket:

  9. hmmmm that would be the way to configure your port forwarding. if you send screen shots im sure we can walk you through step by step.

There is another way to configure your router to let you host and that is by setting up dmz to match you computers ip address. I cant walk you through that but it is a solution to your problem. (note USE THIS ONLY ONLY if port forwarding is not an option) the reason I say this is because it is putting your computer out in the open. think of it like setting your computer in the middle of some busy street and walk away! not smart and you may not like what happens to it while your gone. but it works and its simpler than configureing the ports.

    let us know
