try reinstalling the patches that you find on www.ghostrecon.com it may save you from a whole new reinstall

what guns are you useing there are a few gun mods out there which a few guns wont use the wheel mouse. I believe there is a few sniper rifles like that in da grm 4.9

2000 or xp are traditionally more stable
but on low end systems 98 isnt bad if not perfered (will run faster)

you can do either but it depends on your network.
Ideally letting her in on your games would be better for traffic. but you would have to forward the ports gr uses to the gr "server"
the other way will work as well but she would have to host and you would need a good connection at work depending on how many are going to use the connection

so after double clicking on program files then double clicking on adobe then photo shop then plugins past there

just my 2 cents
I have always loved gigabyte boards never had an issue with them. that said I really dont think it matters what main stream brand mother board you get. just the goodies you get with it.
amd vs intel
again what floats your boat. typicaly amd is the gammer processor with the 512 l2 cache I always thought intel as the workhorse type processor. there are thousands of websites that can give you all the hype but that has been the trend gammer or workhorse. what fits you best. I myself am an avid AMD guy. but I game I dont do "work". do what fits you best at your cost range. Unfortunately my boss paid 150 more dollars for a new processor just because he wanted the intel name. he said thats what all companies buy. (dont be my boss, buy what fits you!

GET DUEL CHANNEL DDR
in all the upgrades I have ever gotten duel channel ddr is the best 300 dollars I have ever spent. I have a gig pc 3200 duel channel and have literally had photoshop , gr and had star wars galactic battlegrounds running at the same time. Have ever played 2 games at once and alt tabed between them? I have! and had no lag problems. I cant hype about it enough get it.

no the plugin alows you to open *.rsb files and manipulate them. or you can take jpegs tiffs bitmaps whatever and save them to rsbs. you do have to save them in mulitiples of 2 though.

if you go to your cd drive on mycomputer instead of left clicking on island thunder right click. this should give you a menu that allows you to open and not auto run. the plugin you desire is in the extras folder on the cd.

the box around the mouse would be caused by the alpha channels.
you done any modding on those? or downloaded a mod recently?

Pave low is right but let me tell you copping the mods over saves a bunch of time
especially when your mods folder is over 2 gig

oh also on your cd rom there will be a small hole about a pin size use an unfolded paper clip and it should pop open the tray without you haveing to power anything
I know that one from expierience

In my expierience GR is a CPU hog and it will use all available resources no matter what you have.
I doubt seriously that is your issue about cpu being maxed with out an ike log we really wont be able to tell what it really is.
some thoughts though have you done any moding on skins in gr for multiplayer or weapon mods?
when I started out playing I went into igor and played around with the weapons and tried to host useing those weapons and boom CTD.
do you have white faces? or white people or buildings? I have seen that CTD computers.
if I remember right on your post you deactivated all mods. if not try that first.
and the perverbial uninstall/reinstall aways does wonders let us know

try deleteing the mod the old fasion way by going to the mods folder and delete the offend mod folder
if you dont know which one that is
mp1 - desert siege
mp2 - island thunder
origmiss- ghost recon
every thing else (please forgive me all the great modders out there) is unimportant and can be deleted
