  1. 4552 looked bloody awful though, 0fps on some of the cpu testing bits
  2. I went for the trupower 2 550W and its great, no problems so far and there are more cables coming out of it than you could fit things to.
  3. Dont start Spectre up ranting about microsoft and IE, but he's right, common sense goes a long way to keeping your pc clean, I was linked to a nice little tool a few weeks back that automates downloading, installing, updating and running some of the top antivirus/spyware software out there http://hitmanpro.nl/ the sites in hurdy gurdy language but once you download it installs in english, Run it and sit back with a cup of coffee as it sets everything up and scans your system
  4. The aliens working well there mate, looks gorgeous that does.
  5. Those last couple like Avid Merrion gone totally mad, Bo Selecta
  6. The way I see it you pay for a seat and if somebody else is sprawled all over you making your journey uncomfortable then you've been inconvenienced unnecessarily, how about making the fatties sit together? This way they'll see how uncomfortable it makes everyone having to sit next to them? And when I say fatty I'm not being nasty, at nearly 15st I'm no lightweight but theres overweight and then theres ridiculous, good point about kids travelling in car seats too WK, thats a must in my book.
  7. I'd definitely go for a card with PCI-express for the graphics card too, nvidia havent made any 7800's for AGP and its gonna die pretty soon so make sure your motherboard supports PCI-e, I recently built a new one and went for an Asus A8N-SLi Premium nForce4 SLi board and its a belter, I've put a 64 bit chip in it but it will take a dual core later on, its sli too so whatever graphics card you buy now you can always put another one in later when the price drops. Make a list of the bits you want and price them up every week at a couple of places, once the price gets to what you want jump in and get it, it took me nearly 4 weeks before it was right and I couldnt be happier with it.
  8. Beam me up Scotty....NOOO not that button!!!!
  9. I think that was going for about $7000 dollars mate, not a bad rig is it?
  10. The UK first??? I dont believe it, maybe its payback for the week/fortnight wait for Island Thunder, woohoo
  11. I used to get low connection speeds that I couldnt explain either mate, the only solution was to multirar the file and have a couple of connections and get 3 or 4 parts at the same time, they'd all come down at 80ish then.
  12. One of the easiest ways is if you're using the ftp server, make an account for your mate and give him access to the folder that the file is in, then when he logs in with that user/pass he's straight at the file. I wouldnt allow anonymous access to your ftp server at all mate.
  13. I'd definitely use the ftp method, nothing worse than sending files through msn and getting halfway through and you get logged out and have to start again, with ftp you should be able to resume downloads if you lose the connection.
  14. Well nvidias drivers are up to 81.98 now mate so you might want to give them a blast http://www.nvidia.co.uk/object/winxp_2k_81.98_uk.html
  15. Usually comes free on a disk with most cd writers mate, if you havent got a copy see if you can borrow one off a mate, heres the site for it anyway http://www.nero.com/eng/index.html
  16. You're probably better off using Nero for making music cd's mate, if you check the settings in media player you'll see it defaults to wma files, get Nero and give that a blast is what I recommend.
  17. My emails promise to make you larger in 15 minutes if that helps
  18. I got the straight 1.00 to 1.02 patch mate, some forums mentioned a problem if you patch to 1.01 then on to 1.02 http://www.lo-mac.com/updates.php
  19. Just ordered a new stick Zebb, PC world had 3 joysticks in and they were all crap so I ordered a Saitek Cyborg Evo from overclockers so fingers crossed it'll be here in a few days then I can show you how a real amateur crashes
  20. Snagit works too mate, it does a lot more than just do screencaptures too. http://www.techsmith.com/products/snagit/default.asp
  21. Have a play with desktopx then and make windows look like something completely different with some of the themes you can get from http://www.wincustomize.com some are resolution dependent so get the one that matches your screen resolution
  22. Well I've just spent 1500 quid putting a new system together for myself and its even future proofed, the motherboard is socket 939 and at the moment I've put a 64 bit cpu in it which I can swap in the future for a dual core, and I can stick another graphics card in if I really want to. Asus A8N-SLi Premium nForce4 SLi (Socket 939) PCI-Express Motherboard AMD 64bit 3700 San Diego GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC3200 Value Dual Channel Kit CAS3 BFG 7800GTX 512Meg Ram X-Fi Fatality sound card Western Digital 300gig hard drive Razer Copperhead mouse Antec P-180 Case Antec Trupower 2.0 550w psu Some other bits n pieces too but it runs great, the monitor will only do 1280x1024 so everything runs at that resolution with 8xAA and 16xAF and all settings on high and it doesnt miss a beat, stuff like Quake4, BF2, FEAR, VBS1. In fact the only thing i'm not happy about is the amd heatsink and fan, its given me a bit of grief and I might replace it yet but I'll have to see how that goes. Sound from the fatality cards is spot on too, very nice.

    Media Crazy

Star trek is always a bad picture, Buffy was terrible too, even some of the main channel programs like the enders and the street look a bit ropey, I even started to wonder if it had anything to do with my computer being on and me robbing the tv of bandwidth from the cable or if there were a pile of downloaders in my street who were all leeching all day long.

Dunno whether its a ploy on the part of blueyonder mate but have you noticed one of the worst channels is sky one? I'm wondering if theyre actively choking that signal to make it look like the pictures from sky are really bad. When I asked what compression they put on the signal as it looked like an internet feed they said I'd have to talk to one of the technicians, and he's probably got a pad in front of him with a set of standard replies which he goes through. I think its going to be sky for tv and blueyonder for phone and internet.
