Best thing I did was replacing the stock fan/heatsink to a 3rd party model, fitted in so much nicer and clipped in a lot better too, well once I'd grown another 3 spindly arms to get round the huge heatsink it did.

Console Games Having More Problems Than Before?
CrowmanUK replied to WhiteKnight77's topic in Console Corner
I used the phrase closed system but I meant it as in being all the parts inside the console were the same for any console ( all 360's having the same architecture) unlike in pc's where there could be milllions of different configurations of parts, what I didnt mean was a system that didnt have internet access and thus closed off from the outside world. Not knocking you matey, just clearing up what I actually meant with the phrase. -
I know the one you mean mate, the one thats a ###### to get out of the dvd drive

Worst shot i've ever seen, missed the idiots head by a mile

All trial and error nailing the problems mate, the main one is you've got the cpu on properly now, one thing at a time eh?
-
It sounds very similar to what happened to me when I built the system I'm using now, an amd 3700 chip with stock heatsink and fan, the heatsink didnt seem like it clipped in properly and I wasnt really happy with it, system fired up great and idled at a lowish temp but as soon as it had to work the temps rocketed up, if I were you I'd take the heatsink and fan off, clean all the areas, apply some more thermal paste then try reseating it, if it wont sit properly i'd look into a new heatsink and fan combo, they usually work a lot better than the standard stuff.
-
I use this stuff when I reseat the heatsink mate, one bottle emulsifies the old thermal paste, the other cleans the heatsink and cpu, I know you're not doing it this time, just a heads up for next time http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct....7&subcat=27

If you're just changing the fan you wont need to take the heatsink off, the 60mm fans just screw onto the heatsink with 4 screws in the corners, take the old one off, put the new one on and bobs your uncle. The 120mm fans run a lot quieter than the 60mm ones too because they dont have to go so fast to move more air, if you want to go 120mm ones though you will need a new heatsink fan combo.

Console Games Having More Problems Than Before?

I'm in total agreement with you WK and I can almost feel Hatchetforces frustration/anger in his posts, you say the console games need patching, I'd say they shouldnt need to be patched at all, the games come out on a closed system and all the 360's should be the same so no worrying about different components, the game should be released FINISHED! If downloadable content comes later then great but what happens if you buy the game and dont have the internet? Up a certain creek without a paddle? On PC's I can see the need for patching if problems arise with different system configurations but f -
Console Games Having More Problems Than Before?

Wasnt this a discussion on Consoles games having more problems than before and not a vegas 2 bashing session? -
If the bearings are on the way out they will make a lot of noise and yes you can buy just the fan on its own, few in here should do the trick, just make sure its got the right connection to go in the motherboard, be careful too of the ones that have a really high cfm rate, they can be noisy, I put one in the kids PC and it sounds like there is a hairdryer in there http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList....amp;x=0&y=0

If you've got some more 60mm fans in the case you could try swapping them over, if the cpu fan is on the way out its better to replace it now rather than wait for it to fail.

Console Games Having More Problems Than Before?
CrowmanUK replied to WhiteKnight77's topic in Console Corner
Remember the old days? Back in the Spectrum/C64/Amiga days when stuff came out finished? Before the bad old internet became popular. If you do then you're old and lucky, now with this wonderful internet you can release a game before its ready and make money while you're still making the game! Cool eh? In the old days when a game was released it was finished and I can only remember one game that got a patch, and that had to be sent out on disc, cant remember what the game was though, i've been to bed since then. I really feel sorry for the developers and gamers though, the devs would probably -
Console Games Having More Problems Than Before?
CrowmanUK replied to WhiteKnight77's topic in Console Corner
I always looked at the beauty of consoles in being that you turn it on, put your game in and play without any of the hassles that you get with a pc, now it looks like the console crowd are getting more of the problems that we get but without being able to mend the rigs themselves, now the console boys will be getting lag, patches, and more hardware problems, is there an option to defrag your drives on a 360/PS3?, and would it make a difference to the game you were playing? Wonder if the next gen of consoles will resemble a pc's architecture more than they do now? -

Ubisoft buys rights to "Tom Clancy" name
CrowmanUK replied to Pave Low's topic in The Video Gaming Industry Discussion
Spooky that and I also think R6 was probably one of the better books, if you want one that really sucks try Teeth of the Tiger, I still cant believe I finished it, thanks for the filling in the details of what really happened mate. -
Well look on the bright side, console games can be patched now so they're just as likely to get buggy releases that never get finished to a proper standard before the next in the series comes out. In fact it seems like pc games are becoming the new Ed Wood movies, you know the guy who made plan 9 from outer space? Yeah this game is crap but wait till you see the sequel!!!! "Really? Worst film you ever saw. Well, my next one will be better. Hello. Hello. " Ed Wood

If anybody ever read any of the Necroscope books by Brian Lumley lets hope it doesnt turn into another Perchorsk projekt, it made a gateway to a vampire world and lots of nasty stuff came through.

Ubi looking at a Tom Clancy MMO game
CrowmanUK replied to Pave Low's topic in Massive Multiplayer Online games
Yes you too can play the role of a virtual Tom Clancy and race to the top of the bestseller chart and maximise your gold income by selling your name to the highest bidder who will slowly decrease the worth of your name with mediocre titles that get gradually worse.... hang on thats not an mmorpg -
Maybe the pies could be the prize?
