Bingo! ...and doh! I can only tell you that I let Microsoft pick the video drivers (via the Windows Update tool), rather than NVidia, via their tool, and viola! I am now back in action. Actually, no. So I just bought a Soundblaster Audigy 2ZS Gamer. But alas, no luck. It's odd that if I just install GR things work. Only when I install DS and IT that it fails to work.

After I installed GR, DS and UT, I removed the modsset.txt, which only had the initial comment line "// MODS SETTINGS - LIST OF MODS ACTIVE ON THIS SYSTEM". I had the same result of initial launch, then back to the desktop. I pretty much put together a new PC. The only things in common are the keyboard, mouse, memory and hard drives (which were reformatted). I checked with MSI's auto updater and all drivers are updated... still no luck. I miss my GR!! -Josey

Thanks for the suggestions! I haven't forgotten about this, however I had some issues with the new power supply (yes, smoke was involved). I'll try the modsset.txt file, however with the "Gold Edition" CDs, I'm unaware how to install DS and/or IT without installing the other. There's no option on the install window. Thoughts?

Another note... I tried the Complete Uninstall this morning without success. It still works with ONLY GhostRecon, but as soon as I install DS and IT, it stops working.

History: I've been playing GR for a couple of years now. My previous PC ran without a hitch, however I decided to go out and upgrade my system (details in DXDIAG below). Details: I install GR (no patches, DS, IT or mods) and GR runs like a charm. Once I install DS and IT the app starts, finds the CD, screen goes black for a sec, then crashes. I've tried it in both 32-bit and 16-bit video settings. Since GR worked fine by itself, I'm doubting it's the video card and/or system and suspect something in DS and/or IT.
