The thing is stinger the experts said it wouldnt happen in our lifetime but scientists in austria already accomplished quantum teleportation in the past couple months I believe. It was all over the science news. Its here and its reality.
With butterfly.net the thing is they want to eliminate the need for kids to have to shell out 10 bucks a month to play in a large mp universe. Plus at the same time increasing the size of said universe.
Time will tell and we will see what happens.
Hey guys..............
Do a search on telepresence technology and imainge a super 3d universe created by super megacomputer grids. Imagine being "inside" those artificial worlds.
Imagin fraggin someone for real!

@firefly........
Well man thats what quantum computing will accomplish. Imagine a circuit that doesnt use wires but instantly teleports the state of photons to different parts of the circuit to transmit 1s and 0s. Or having computers using qubits instead of bits so a bit can have both a state of 1 and 0!
That would make a computer a size of a pea millioins of times more powerful than rooms full of TODAYS super computers.

Ha Ha Zantar.....u cruel.

Let me take this time seriously though to pay my respects to Prime minister Tony Blair.
The guy has courage. IMO I think he should withdraw his troops though. Pres. Bush should thank him and respectfully ask that he withdraw his troop support. His country just doesn't want to give us support. Tony Blair really has guts and courage and I must respect him for that.

Yeah. I'm just about have all the material I need for the sniper cannon mod in terms of weapons. But I think we need one or two more. It may have taken a long time to do but it isnt that many rifles. About 18 or so super powerful rilfes and or guns are ready but I think we need some more. That 18 includes 6 versions of a hecate II .50 cal rifle courtesy of HITMAN (maker of Icephantom mod).
So for a little more variety maybe we can squeeze some more in. Can someone out there do a .50 caliber pauza? Or how about a 30mm anti material rifle. I forget the make of it but I know it exists. Can someone think of some thing really obscure and model it?
But please mention it here before you do it because I may already have it. It has to be a .50 caliber weapon or even more powerful. If you can find a 20mm rifle not already in the mod then that would be great too.
If you want to donate some nice secondary weapons then that won't be overlooked either but really looking for .50 cal weapons or greater.
And snowfella I haven't forgotten about your windrunner that would be a great addition as well.
Any thoughts anyone??

Firefly are you trying to make that "fly back" effect when you hit a target? Well maniacbikerdude first pioneered it for ghostrecon and you can download his mod in the equipment section....the m82 mod.
YOu need both a .gun file with the weapontype coded as 4 and a projectilefile name listing. And of course you need to have the .prj file.
Find the m82 mod by maniacbikerdude and modify it to your liking if its not already what you are looking for. If you want the visual explosion that destroys tanks and stuff then you will have to specifically alter the .prj file to the type of explosion you want.

I guess that would kind of expensive Gunny Hartman. Maybe that would make sense to the french anyway. heh heh
I wonder truly zantar if there are french spies in iraq right now and what would they be doing.
hmmmmmmmmmmm I wonder!

Well not to talk about grid computing for the moment but just mmogs. Planetside for instance, will be part rpg as well as a full blown fps shootem up. The game will have the opportunity for some to act as instant generals using the rpg part of the game.
That way you will be able to watch over the players and control or at least influence armies of players. When planetside debuts I will watch its progress and development. But since it doesnt use grid computing to help with networking they can only have a few thousand or so players connected to their 24/7 ongoing universe.
Grid computing though will overcome certain lag issues I believe. Go over to butterfly.net to look into it. In fact, they have already signed a deal with sony for the ps2 network and certain games ps2 online are going to have.
As for my dream of using grid computing to create the greatest 3d engine known to man.............the dream is not that far fetched. I still think the theory is sound and there are just certain problems that needs to be addressed. If you were to do a web search on "quantom teleportation" you will see that my notions are not that crazy. Quantum teleportation will make communications instantaneous which would absolutely destroy all lag......anywhere! That opens up tremendous possibilities in communications and computing.
So.......go right on and imagine about actually being in an artificial world.

hmmmm. I wonder if that truly would be standard operating procedure for french pilots when they run in into enemy planes.
(imagine an accent like inspector cleuseau) "ahhh le base command......le base command we have tangos on our le scopes....preparing to eject......le oveir."
"ahhhhhh.....le acknowledged Fox1.....le oveir."

What would happen if an Iraqi mig met up with a french mirage? Would the pilots both eject at the same time?

LOL Stinger.

Your mixing up alot of stuff here. First off, I'm not talking about mmogs (massively multiplayer online games). Sorry to burst your bubble stinger but on a seperate note grid computing is already being used for connecting millions of players online in a game. And actually it will open up tremendous opportunities for gameplay. Usually these types of games are run as a 24/7 ongoing universe. Usually the game will be about a war with factions vying for power and such. Go to www.butterfly.net to see the technology used to connect so many people to a game cheaply. And also go to Planetside.com to learn about a game that is mmog based. Please note that that game does not use grid computing technology to connect players together so its expensive to play and can only connect thousands to one game session.
Again, grid computing is supposed to lower the cost of those types of games while connecting many more players.
NOW..........
What I was really talking about in the thread is really a seperate issue altogether. I was talking about the idea of using a grid network (which really acts like one big supercomputer) and developing a 3d engine that is designed to use the raw power of the entire network to run the one game engine. So instead of having a game engine designed to run on a pc how about a game engine designed to run only on a super computer? I would imagine the 3d images would be substantially greater than from a pc.
Yes I realize there would be problems but already things in the future point to those problems being overcome.
In the meantime, just think of the possibilities!
Imagine (with a telepresense engineered interface) actually walking inside of a cut scene! I'm not talking "the matrix" here but at least a quantum leap in the world of gaming as we know it.
What do you think?
-
Ok guys. I want you to think way beyond what you consider a 3d game for a few moments. I want you to clik on the link below and read what I wrote at a game developer forum. And I want you guys to think long and hard and try to imagine a reality that is not impossible. When you finish reading consider it for a moment and what that might mean to gamers the world over if my crazy idea could become a reality. My god what if we could interact with this with more than a simple monitor?
Read now: 3D Grid Engines....my thread at IGDA
Then post your own opinions and imaginings and ideas here.

Hurry somebody make a joke before this gets too serious.

I guess it depends on the pilot. Then again I wonder what would happen if a french fighter pilot went up against a U.S. or British pilot.
How would you think the average Frenchie pilot would perform??
-
You know..........................................................
I usually give anybody the benefit of the doubt. I mean at least I respect the french resistance during world II the maquis. The evil nazis (not evil germans...evil nazis) destroyed their country and the french had a rigteous cause to save their people. While it is true it was from incompetence that led them to have to fight as guerrilas in the first place.... They certainly fought as guerrilas pretty hard.
I never really took a long hard look at their country's history though. I guess being american I always tried to see the best traits in everybody. But....of late.....I am beginning to seriously wonder about France.
America....with all of its faults....and yes its declining moral values at least tried. We at least gave it a try when it came to having a country with Godly values concerning freedom and justice. We at least tried to be an example to others. We are criticized for being the world's policeman yes....but thats because nobody else (at least not many) seems to have any sense of right or wrong on a national or international level.
We better take a long look at that "european union" they got going over there! They are not going to stop at a unified currency either. After what happens in Iraq good or bad they are going to want a unified military to compete with other powers. And I am nervous at who would want to lead this "union".
The U.S. military minds better start adding more countries to their war simulation studies than simply China,North Korea and Iraq.
I would start researching the performance statistics of F22 fighters vs Typhoons if I was them.
I forgot this was supposed to be a humerous post.
So......HA....HA........there you go.

-
I know it has been tried and there were some pics in the old forum b.c. (before crash).
But it has been hard to do. There was a modder who created a fps weapon view with some restrictions but I am not sure if ghostrecon can use the view and use it as a weapon at the same time.
Maybe some other modders out there has some ideas?

I believe 300mag has. Most of his stuff however are sniper rifle shots. I should ask him about that.
Hey shadow2k1! Did you check your emails yet? I sent you instructions on accessing the ftp site. Let me know ok?
-
Checking email.......don't see it yet. As soon as I get it I will test it out.

What about you other guys? Hows your dream sniper missions coming along?
-
Are you talking about taking a picture of a gun and using its texture to apply to a 3d model of the gun?
Your talking about texturing weapons then? If so then there are plenty of tutorials detailing that. Does anybody have the link to pain@war's video tutorials showing you how to do it?
And also...........
I found this great link to tutorials on how to put textures on objects. You might be able to pick up a thing or two. Go here:

omg hitman. wait till i find you in a gr game.

attacckkkkkkkkkkkkkkk

please still donate them ok? I sent u an emailin detailing about going to ftp site.
Please? You making my heart skip beats.

-
nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
omg dont delete themmmmmmmmmmm

-
@daywanderer....
hitman2 was also engineered to be a "stealth" type of game play where you mostly have to sneak around. However when it does come time to action it gives you the option of being as loud or as quiet as you want.
-
Hey Slink!
I've sent you a test .gun file and it's .prj file. Its not perfect just something copied from the m82mod by maniacbikerdude. The pips are kind of easy but it can kill tanks fine.

Test it with your missions and let me know how it goes.

Nice man!

What about that steyr aug with integrated silencer? I bet I will like your version better.

-
sure man email me some screenies I will get a friend to put it up on site.
We would all like to see.

I don't want to get anybody down and I yes I do think Splinter cell is very good but I have some reservations.
The main one I think is that this game is slightly behind the times. That is because the gameplay seems to be directly competing with metal gear solid 2. Which is already a couple years back. The gameplay is a little too....simple for my taste. But SC defeats mgs2 because it is slightly more "realistic" than having to face a boss after every round.
However, I guess the thing is playing hitman2 has already spoiled me with its more complex gameplay and multiple paths to finish. And gun fighting in hitman2 was better in my opinion. It was almost like playing an action movie of sorts.
Whats your opinion?
