  1. lol ok well that sucks.

Hey, check out the interstellar marines link from the E3 thread. Maybe we can make our own GR from its engine? :P

It's engine is UE3; we'd have better odds just modding ut2k7.

Really? I dunno. The visuals in the trailer was much more impressive than from what I've seen from games like Unreal Tournament 2007 or gears of war. Your sure?

  2. I had something similiar as well actually. I could host 1 time and the next time my entire system would lose inet connection. I had to restart GRAW (not the rig) and then it'd allow a host for 1 more time. then it'd do it again. I had the serving rig DMZ'd past 1 netgear and 2 linksys routers, and when the internet connection would drop I could still reach my routers. however when in the loadout screen in graw it'd show my clients drop, my TS would drop and Xfire bombed. We ended up having another person host, and they did fine. I haven't had time to look into the graw problem but I never have problems with my connection, ever. And I've yet to have another drop like that since I stopped hosting. So, while it seemed a coincidence, now that another is describing the problem I have to start wondering...

Try setting your MTU manually ive had an issue befor like that with something else so i set my MTU manually to 1500 and whaala no more issues...

Your gonna have to elaborate please.

What is the MTU and what is the 1500 setting? And does any of this have to do with linksys routers cause thats the one I have.

    Hey Don Miguel:

Does your friend who ended up doing the hosting also have a linksys router? If not then perhaps this is an issue with linksys?

  3. Couldn't find a good mirror, but one was mentioning they thought it could be prerendered (or ingame UE3.)

Suli, if you've looked, what do you think? Realtime or prerendered?

Edit: Found one on IGN. Looks like maybe a little of both.

I dunno. I mean they said in the beginning of the video that they were using in-game footage. But wouldn't be outstanding if all of that....at least the parts with the first person view....if that actually was from in-game? :P

  4. This is not exactly off-topic because this is a thread about E3.

But I wanted you guys to know about this new game coming called "Interstellar Marines". I'm surprised it didn't get more coverage because the game looks absolutely amazing! No, its not a miltary tactical sim. But the closest anology would be a game like FEAR. And if you liked FEAR then I think you will enjoy this game.

    In fact,

I think this game is a FEAR killer if I ever saw one.

Check out the download link and let me all know what you think.

Fileplanet Link for E3 2006 Trailer of INTERSTELLAR MARINES !! :D

I wished sincerely that they would take whatever game engine they used for this game and built a real tac sim with it. I think it looks that good. At first I thought it was a CGI trailer.....but its not.

  5. My friend "Tech" and I tried to do a coop game after installing the patch. He tried to host and as soon as we chose our weapons and hit the ready button and launched....we both lost our internet connection. It crashed our routers as well because my brother on the other connection lost his internet at the same time. Twice he had to reset the cable modem and router and shouted "what the heck are you doing?"

So I told tech not to launch again and no more crashes for the night. :(

When Tech had lost his connection not only he reset his modem he ended up having to reboot his pc. This is all after we installed the 1.06 patch.

Has anybody had any similar problems? Please let us know because we want to try to play coop again today with possibly some more players.

  6. No, what really gripes me:

They are using an OLD engine. AND they heavily modified it by adding a whole bunch of fancy features to it (HDR, etc.). But because it is poorly optimized its running like crap on most modern rigs. Which is ridiculous because visually it cannot hold a candle to stuff like valve's HL2 engine or the DOOM3 engine. At first, I mistakenly took the HDR to be the high dynamic range lightening of say HL2....its not.

They need to optimize this game. IMO the game is not finished. With such old graphics there is no reason whatsoever that this game should run so poorly on modern systems.

No offence but know the FACTS first.....

Mathieu Girard, Ubisoft Producer, Quoted !!

The advantage of having the dev team using its own engine is that they know it by heart and are really keen on taking the best out of its capabilities. Diesel allows for all the latest technologies. It integrates physics and all the latest rendering technologies in huge and highly detailed maps.

GRIN has strong experience in military applications (they started developing software for the armed forces). They also distinguished themselves in developing groundbreaking technology; in fact GRIN were among the first developers to feature vertex and pixel shaders in cooperation with Nvidia

    end quote .

Deisel v6.0 was co developed with nVidia

They know the capability of the diesel v6 engine and it shows in the RELEASE VERSION

They may have to do a bit more optimizing or what ever but at the end of the day it is a

fine platform to base GRAW. It's not what you have as an engine that counts !!!

BUT HOW YOU USE IT. Diesil was developed like you say a few years ago but that was not diesil v6+

And for HL2, I've played it and you know what ?? It's just another game .. all the promises that engine made and the implementation turned out to be another quake/ halflife/ unreal..copy.. GRAW has so much more when you put them SIDE BY SIDE !!!

    DO SOME READING

    :g_withgrin:

So you admit the engine is a few years old huh?

    <_<

Version 6 you say though? I wonder what exactly was updated in version 6 indeed. It sure wasn't the visuals. Although, a game isn't built on visuals alone. But those are seperate problems for other threads.

  7. Oh, here is one thing i remember. The tree damage in Crysis happens exactly where the object hits it. So the trees arent be done.

Also for you modders out there, Agia is looking for modders for Cell Factor. Dont know if they made a big announcment yet. You have to email them, but you can PM me if you are interested in the info.

I don't get it. "So the trees arent be done." Please clarify? All I do know is that the objects in the forest (the trees, bushes, etc.) all have AI built in to them similar to the enemy soldiers.

    Is that what you mean?

As far as I can see, the game to replace GR has not been made, and there is no indication it will ever be made. I may go back to GRAW when it hits the bargain bin, but, I doubt if anyone will even be playing online, unless they make serious changes to the coop. If that is the case, I will pass. What a disappointment this was, this finishes GR.

    Ya....................ya. -_-

  8. What site are we on, I'm talking tac sim squad real world combat shooters, a genre that should be put on the endangered species list. There is nothing wrong with arcade, heavily scripted, single character run and strafe linear games, it would be nice if someone could take one of these fantastic engines and make a game like GR, not a sci-fi candy filed soon to be a coaster game.

And Armed Assault? The only problem with this POS is that at heart, it's still OFP, a total POS of a game that is absolutely not fun to play in any sense.

I don't expect any game like GR to be made any time soon, it's all Halo-HL2-UT territory now.

That said, I speak for a very small minority that want a new game with the GR game structure, real world special forces, multiple squads, 6-12 operators, large wide open maps, lots of weapons, switching teams, military briefings, that is where I stand.

    Amen! :rambo:

And Armed Assault? The only problem with this POS is that at heart, it's still OFP, a total POS of a game that is absolutely not fun to play in any sense.

That may be your opinion, but there are a lot of members here who would disagree with you.

Well, the E3 trailer for armed assault looked cool.

  9. I must say this game is a complete joke...

Who would design a game with parameters and levels of performance that this gae requires.

A FPS of 75 is is about as reachable as noahs ark in turkey.

I feel i was ripped off for 100 bucks , as i have to buy 2 coipies one for my son, myself and now i find out my dedicated copy i have purchased will not run on my box as well..

    Some 2003 windows prob...

It has become inhearently clear that the gaming industry could care less about performance and more about getting the game out there and worrying about other crap later..

We (www.emfclan.com) all installed [Ghost Recon] last night and i must say it was better and even performed better then this newly release version..

Welll this is my little vent because i really feel i was screwed in this latest release.

Grin is a joke and so is there design team

    No, what really gripes me:

They are using an OLD engine. AND they heavily modified it by adding a whole bunch of fancy features to it (HDR, etc.). But because it is poorly optimized its running like crap on most modern rigs. Which is ridiculous because visually it cannot hold a candle to stuff like valve's HL2 engine or the DOOM3 engine. 10. Only one of us could pronounce it with out pooching up the name, so the entire show we all called it the cheap hall (in reference to prices, and not booth quality), or the quite hall.

You know Haze looked good, and visually I was most impressed with Assasins Creed. It wasnt that it used the latest and greatest technology, or had the highest polies. It was just so well designed (visually). One the big screen you could tell things where low poly, and I could imagine seeing a final product looking like that. So I enjoyed that.

    Ya dude about assasins creed.....

I saw the cgi trailer which was fun but didn't use any in-game graphics correct? You have a link to some in-game footage? GRT had mentioned he liked the look of the game so I want to see for myself.

There isn't a tac shooter in sight, the squad based tac combat game is not in vogue. The games coming out are single character arcade games with a sci-fi theme like Crysis. Crysis looks like HL2 meets Far Cry, on a better engine, but, it's still an arcade shooter. Assassin looks like a 15th century Sam Fisher. Lots of eye candy and no substance, plenty of great game engines, but, no game to go with them.

Well I'm interested in the modding potential of crysis. I hope they license the engine to someone making a tac sim.

But what about armed assault? Thats looking hot as a military sim. And what about Frontlines? I want to check that out also.

    No news on [OFP: DR]?

And the new BIA game.....thats looking good too.

Tac sims will never go out of style!

    Into The Pixel. Amazing.

Yup. I've already saved one of the artist's pics as a wallpaper.

  11. hhhmmm interesting, um. Sony thinks the next console cycle will be ten years. Crysis ran fine on the carrier level, but in the forest in was a bit slower that was noticed in the video, escpecially when the player turned around.

Armed Assualt, dont remember it, i'll check it out if I can today. For me the most interesting was downstairs in the Ka.... (K something hall). It was the "cheap" section. But I really enjoyed the harware and little gizmo's people where selling, and Freedom of teach was there so that was nice. Ah the Tony hawk Vert Ramp show is nice, fun to watch. The rock side show in the back is fun.

CH products had a real nice Flight Sim set up that was fun.

Well with crysis don't forget by the time the game comes out what is considered "high end" hardware will be more than what it is now. So with enough memory and perhaps some physics acceleration (if crytek realizes they actually need it) then it should run better. And Sony is wrong about that next console cycle I can just about guarantee that. And ya just click on the link in my last post and get the armed assault video. I think it looks cool. Perhaps a non-arcade serious version of what bf2 tried to do or should have been? It looks like a poor man's VBS1 in my opinion. What do you guys think?

So you got a kick out of the "cheap" section? How does that work? :P

  12. "Please, don't bring up moding on Crytek's games, you'll get a dozen 4000 word posts from Rugg. wall.gif"

I you want I'll pass the message on to Rugg at breakfast tommarrow. If I recall Sup, this forum has an ignore list, and you know of our association to Crytek, there engine and Crysis. Dont see the need for an intentionally provoking post.

Yes, i am at E3 (actually at home after the show.)

The Best part of the show is the Into the Pixel art show. Looking forward to more art tommorrow. The PS3 line takes roughly 1 minute to get through, the Wii line is over 3 hours long. Today it seemed people got through in around 2 and a half. It seems peoples interest is overbearingly obvious.

Nitty Gritty? The best booth babes are the Sin Episodes Girls, BattleField 2142 looks like battle Field2 with mechs and the soldiers of quake wars. Crysis (though it is an un optimised build) it running a little choppy. You can not actually play it, only EA people can play it, buts its in real time. Hellgate London was very popular. Best booth with out a doubt is Pirates of the Carribian. But I am tired, any specific questions?

Too bad I dont know what some of the folks around here that are at E3 look like, otherwise I would say hello.

Specific questions? Dunno. Other than perhaps have you made note of any of the serious military shooters? For instance have you seen the E3 trailer for Armed Assault ? Please guys download it now because it looks serious and hot!

And about crysis, yes I'm sure it is unoptimized but can you imagine when it is? I'm sure by then it won't be choppy. And my gosh if you call THAT at the show choppy then when its finally done it should be spectacular.

What fascinates me though is what you said about the lines for the PS3 and the Wii (gawd hate the name). Dunno man, I think sony bit off more than they can chew and their paying for it......big time. Which would be a shame because I support the blu-ray and we need the PS3 to help popularize the standard. Again, time will tell.

If you find anything else at the show notable please mention it here. And also I will continue to wade through the E3 news for anything else that is interesting.

umm...... .....any pics of the booth girls?

  13. Please, don't bring up moding on Crytek's games, you'll get a dozen 4000 word posts from Rugg. :wall:

lol why? Cause he don't like modding for em or because he do? Don't forget crysis is being built on their next gen engine. Obviously from what we see its much improved over farcry's engine. Hopefully this isn't limited to just graphics. Maybe modding and netcode has also been improved. Imagine too that this game is running on directx 9.0 and supports 10.0 but not necessary. Who cares bout vista lol!

Well, we find out how good it is later this year!

  14. "Wheres crysis?"

Right in fron of the right side doors in the south hall. It looks good. They are showing a forest scene, and a the carrier scene. Looks nice.

Oddly I walked past this booth way to many times. You would thing I would have noticed the Giant EA letters every where, but nope.

Dude.......don't tell me your actually AT THE E3 EXPO!! :o

Why didn't you tell me argh! lol

Hey, can you let us know the real nitty gritty of whats goin on there? Any sleeper hits that are going unnoticed? Any new tactical shooters we should be watching for info on?

And do you agree that crysis might just be the best game of the entire show?

Well, thats my opinion but its probably shared by many others.

Gawd, can you imagine if they have good mp support for crysis? And can you imagine the mp mods that possibly could be done for it? GR5 anyone?

  15. - Who cares if other games have a better performance Thats for benchmarkers! LOL

    - Again the boring AA thing... turn the resolution up and its very good LOL

    - Weapons choice ... some people will never be happy...

    - SP, scripted: because theres a story line, you wouldn't want to break the story, rescueing the Prez before he is kidnapped! HAHA LOL

    - COOP MP, 4 players only: of course its a limitation for 4+ squads... We knew that beforehand.

    - Maps variety: GR 1 was not desert, etc when it first came out... WAIT! Many expansions are to come!

So far, the SP only is worth, VERY worth the money, at least for me! Learn to enjoy it, I would say.

Looks to me like some people are awaiting the new Bible, new Koran or the new Everthing-in-One solution in gaming... GR1/[GR] (lol) was not that good either, BUT indeed it was brilliant for squad MP... And that is what Grin will have to fix.

'The truth needs to be heard' : SUPER-LOL

Notice hes very quiet when it came to MP. MP is a joke. <_<

GR1 missions wasn't based on the same map over and over again. I think thats what lightspeed was referring too. And dude.......*sigh*....about the sp scripted stuff....it may be entertaining to you but not everyone likes to be led by the nose like they're a dummy.

To me and alot of others the sp stuff doesn't really simulate the freedom of non-linear missions (heavy sarcasm).

And ya ya we knew beforehand about the 4 player coop thing. Now that we've played it we're SURE now that we don't like the team leader dying and ending the entire mission.

But your telling us to "learn" to enjoy it? Dude, you obviously have no idea how sickening and revolting that makes alot of us feel. Why should we have to "learn" to enjoy it? No one had to learn to enjoy GR1.......................we just did.

But.......I did promise to give graw a chance. I did purchase graw out of honor and respect for GR1. And, since this is all we've got, *sigh* I will give it a chance to improve. But in my heart I will still be on the look out for the true sequel to GR1. :'(

  16. We already have a thread about the sony conference; they showed the PS3 for over an hour.

Ya don't worry about it. The sony presentation sucked imo. Lets hope the nintendo presentation fairs better. I wonder if nintendo will respond to sony's obvious copy of their controller functions.

Still looking for anything of real interest to report.

  17. Anybody got a load of Sony's presentation yesterday? They didn't have the PS3 ready so they had a long boring presentation complete with slides, financial forecasts and other boring crap. <_<

I didn't see it all. Does anybody know anything of interest concerning Sony's announcements? I want to see more of that killzone 2 for the PS3. And I don't want to see info on killzone for the PSP. Also, everyone was hoping they would redesign the boomerang PS3 controller. Looks like they panicked and went back with a standard PSone/PS2 controller. Very dissapointing that they were so unimaginative.

    Oh, well.

Anyways, today is day two of the E3 expo. Any news of interest and I will update this thread.

    Wheres crysis? :shifty:

  18. First thing to report is a negative in my book....

Go look for and download the video trailer for rainbow six lockdown. They're making it so its an over the shoulder view just like the stuff on the consoles. The pc version will of course be first person view all the way right?

Argh! Bring on crysis. I want to be amazed again.

  19. My "watch list" looks something like this:

    FEAR: Extraction Point

    Supreme Commander

Dark Messiah of Might and Magic

    Splinter Cell: Double Agent

    C&C 3

    Crysis

    HL2 - Ep1

    Gothic 3

    Bioshock

oh, and STALKER, but I heard it won't be presented publicly...

    :rocky:

Of course stalker won't be presented publicly. They are so late with their product that already their game's engine looks old compared to whats already out there. I mean imagine the embarassment when they try to show stalker off and nobody cares cause they are all looking at crysis.

    Its a shame really. <_<

  20. Everyone should be keeping a watchful eye on the E3 expo this week. It starts today and Sony will be making a press conference at 4pm pacific time. If anything of interest comes up over the next few days post it here. I will be sure to do the same.

Especially to keep a watch out for is any good tactical shooters coming our way for the pc.

And of course it will be very exciting to see a playable version of Crytek's incredible looking "CRYSIS".
