  1. Yep... won't be wasting my money on this one. Ghost Recon is dead to me... thanks for nothing Ubisoft...
  2. Expectation-setting is an art-form. I certainly hope the folks that are standing behind you drafting concept art, doing code updates... or more to the point... making decisions about the game's features, functionality and intent... understand the expectation you just set with that single sentence. -JohnK
  3. No arguments here... and HELLO to a bunch of old and dear friends! I'm glad I took a few minutes to stop by and look at the headlines today.... hadn't heard about GR4 (or whatever the heck the name will be) until now. Here's my list in no particular order: 1) Give me Ghost Recon Redux - [GR] Plus modern graphics, sound and gameplay 2) Give me DIRECT IP CONNECTION and GameSpy 3) Give me Mission Packs at regular intervals and you WILL get my money! 4) For Krise - NORG. 5) Give me a strong SP campaign but butt-kicking MP abilities, too. 6) Open, non-scripted maps that can be completed multiple ways 7) Make those maps multi-use... same map, SP, MP, COOP, etc. 8) More flexible loadout scenarios... [GR] was old, GRAW was too limiting 9) SOUL-HOPPING... I know this is contentious but I loved being able to jump to other characters on my team and play their roles... also handy when my primary player character gets waxed but I still want to complete the mission. 10) EASY, SIMPLE, NO-BRAINER mod installation, prioritization and deactivation (without uninstall) 11) Multi-threaded development to support latest processors 12) TRUE widescreen support 13) Realistic ballistics / physics for weapons 14) Realistic damage model for all players... 1 shot kills for headshots, partial body damage when appropriate, etc. 15) Accurate night vision simulation, tracer rounds, etc. 16) Realistic silencing for weapons (silenced guns lose muzzle velocity, etc.) 17) Realistic scope / zoom for weapons ([GR] was weak but killer for it's day) To this very day (this morning in fact), I still play [GR]... Sure the graphics are REALLY looking bad but the GAMEPLAY makes the game, not necessarily the eye candy. Nuff said from my direction.... -JohnK Phoenix, AZ
  4. I see not much has changed around here since I left awhile ago. Good to see old friends... good to see new faces. Still wishing we didn't have to argue over the same damn situation. I read that Ubi bought Tom Clancy's soul for $20 million or so. Figures. The spirit's been dead for awhile now so selling the soul is just that much easier. -John K.
  5. Hey everyone, Well, I am looking at how much time I have available in my life, with job / girlfriend / gaming / etc and I've realized I'm coming up short. I haven't been around here that much lately... time to time I check in and post about our PatchFest fun... but I think I have to say that it's about time I mosey on down the path. I spent a LOT of time today back on the Blackfoot Studios forum for Ground Branch and I've decided that what little time I have going forward for online forum chat / etc. will be devoted there. I've been a Ghost Recon fan since it's inception. I own 13 copies of [GR] (all of them original game + all mission packs), and I've even purchased both GRAW's, but I simply don't feel the love from Ubi + (choose your developer) any longer. The Blackfoot gang have it right and I encourage you ALL to visit their forums soon. They're not making a game, they're re-making the genre and it's our chance to be a part of the fun. I know I will see most of you over there so this isn't really goodbye... Thanks to Rocky and the ENTIRE forum admin team for keeping me (mostly) in check these past few years. Emotions ran high there for awhile but you guys (and girls!) handled it with reckless professionalism! -John K.
  6. I hear ya Rabbi... I was playing [GR] last night for 2 hours and loved every minute of it. Who says a 7 year old game can't still be fun. -John K.
  7. Frustrating, isn't it? If I could play GRAW on console with a keyboard and mouse I would never buy another PC version again. Really? So you're okay with the arcade/hollywood feel and the pretty sparkly hud, and not being able to mod at all? Wow. Before anyone scoffs at the mod reference, I would remind you of Brettzies and Snowfella's mods, and the indispensable NoCom mod. Of course I'm NOT okay with all the sci-fi crap, but do I tolerate sci-fi crap AND get continuous content, or do I get a slimmed down HUD but it comes with limited patch support and NO content? Sorry, I can live with sci-fi if it means more content... IF, and only IF I could play GRAW2 console with a keyboard and mouse, which I can't...so this entire conversation is rendered moot anyway. -John K.
  8. Frustrating, isn't it? If I could play GRAW on console with a keyboard and mouse I would never buy another PC version again. -John K.
  9. Point taken Dannik, but it's not like we've been given the OPPORTUNITY to pay for new content, either. I'm ticked about that point... the PC market isn't even good enough to milk for more money. How's that for "writing on the wall"? -John K.
  10. Sorry Wolf. I meant the whole bloody patch process is a sick joke. The empty placeholder? That's the punchline. -John K.
  11. /pokes eyes out with a stick for trusting Ubi and buying GRAW-PC/ Evidence that we PC gamers are nothing
  12. It also kills any thought of a future expansion pack. Hmm.... I wonder. Let's put the thinking hat on for a moment. Giving the game away is like giving the razor away... if they can use the "freebie" deal to build the base of players, it gives them a bigger customer base to buy an expansion pack (thus buy the razor blades). Could there be a positive somewhere in this recent decision, or are we just like usual.... blinded to reality by our desire to have a better product? -John K. way to stay positive, but i think you got that hat on backwards... for starters, it's not free, not even to the existing FP members; only to new subscribers with a 1-year deal. naturally, it all comes down to cold hard cash. if the game is collecting dust on the store shelves, let's sell it another way. less profit is still profit. as far as building the player base and then hitting it with an expansion pack, i wish there was some truth to that... the fact is, out of dozens of thousands of people that bought the game and actually tried it online, only a few dozen stayed. GRAW2 MP should be in the encyclopedia under Failure. odds are that out of a couple of hundred suckers that decide to go with File Planet, maybe a couple will stay playing online... another important detail is the "player quality" so to speak. experienced, dedicated team players have all uninstalled the game a long time ago. the people you'll see playing today are the leftovers of noobs that have never heard of [GR], or a tactical shooter for that matter. what's funny is they are utterly terrible at run'n'gunning as well. it's just sad. Don't ever say I didn't try (once in a while) to stay positive! You are right, of course. It isn't free. And that will be a barrier. I'm still of the opinion that we will never see the light of day on patch 1.05. Ubi/GRiN has moved on... and if we get Patch 1.05 it will be just a few minor fixes, no new maps, no major fixes, etc. I think getting our hopes up for 1.05 to include new content is just setting ourselves up for massive let-down. Sorry, another massive let-down. -John K.
  13. From memory? Wolf.. you don't play GRAW2 anymore? Sorry Wolf... "I had the shot, there was no danger so I took it. And I broke a major rule of forum engagement." -John K.

  15. I see the "GRAW2 PC for Free" move as the final word on support for the game... namely, it's gone. I doubt we will ever see the fabled 1.05 patch. GRAw2 was uninstalled a while back and right now I'm playing [GR] and... gulp... Soldier of Fortune - Payback. Yeah, SoF is scripted like CoD4 but not any less than GRAW2 and it's not a bad game for $29. Could be a message in there for Ubi in my humble opinion. [GR] will live forever, I swear. It's easy for me to overlook the 2001 era graphics... [GR] still holds my attention despite playing the maps DOZENS and DOZENS of times. -John K.
  16. GOOD JOB.... so far. Agreement with Rabbi on that... but... Me? I'm still waiting for GRiN to finish the game they started. This has just been a long drawn-out beta cycle from GRAW 1 to today. -John K.
  17. If one were so inclined to speculate, as it were. So to speak.
  18. So, any news on the patch yet? Sorry, I had to. I think we're nearing Week Six of our coverage of "Patch-Watch" here on Comedy Central... Somewhere, off in the distance, I hear a gravely, aged yet wise voice whispering... "It's dead, Jim..." Of course, he was a doctor, not a prognosticator. -John K.
  19. This is fun! Can't wait 'til next month, when I can get on the [GR] server with AFZ and get back to gameplay that rocks... -John K.
  20. Exactly my thoughts, too, Colin. I voted my desires in the poll because I want Ubi to know these are STILL our desires, despite GRAW1 and GRAW2 releases. Ubi will get my money when they return the Ghost Recon series to tactical simulations, and IF they do that I will spend money on the game, on expansion packs, etc. I own 8 copies of the entire original GR+expansion pack series because I wanted to show support (that and I always worried about scratching a disc and not having another! ) I am a serious consumer with money to spend, but I won't buy crap anymore... -John K.
  21. haven't touched [GR] in over 18 months, i believe. i guess i could fire it up and show ya'll how it's done. who would've thought... with all the games out there, GR is still in a league of its own. oh, and Frostbite should definitely be a yes, now that i can get 2500 FPS on those maps... i think i'll even max out the game graphics settings! this will be fun. just don't ban me! [GR] on a modern vid card is a blessing and a curse. Max out the res and options and it freakin' rocks on performance, but it's still 2001 graphic quality. That said, [GR] is still installed on my machine and GRAW 2 is off, at least until a patch arrives or some news arrives about GRAW2. Says something about a quality product, doesn't it? -John K.
  22. Welcome Vin! I think you're echoing what most of us are saying about the patch.... "when" and "what"... when will we get it and what will it include? I'm afraid we won't know the answers until 1.05 is actually delivered (if it's delivered?)... -John K.
  23. My take is this: * If the patch passed QA then the problem is with Ubi not distributing it. * If the patch did not pass QA then the code probably went back to GRiN for "adjustments and corrections", followed by another round of Ubi QA, then distribution Since we don't know what is happening, yeah... GRiN is a somewhat convenient target for questions. At least in my post I acknowledged that I was asking the question more from the standpoint of therapy and NOT from expecting an answer. -John K.
  24. You KNOW we're all bored when we hold serious, in-depth conversations on the various aspects of versioning control for patches. Speaking of patches.... GRiN? Any news on 1.05? (I know I won't get an answer but my therapist once told me it never hurts to ask) -John K.
