  1. Yeah, that's a regular thing. SCUBA Teams do what other SF Teams do, they just do it better. The first 3 SF Teams into Afghanistan were SCUBA Teams with the 3rd Team being a composite of 525 and 535. The first British unit into Afghanistan in force was the SBS. ← cool. Didn't know that. Thanks hatchet. Why are the SCUBA teams "better"? Are they generally more experianced?
  2. amazing work Pro. Textures make the model look like it's a high polly one. These will be right up there with Earl's sopmod! Crane stock would be pretty sweet on that ecotech variant... Also, one detail I think would add a lot is the wire (if there is supposed to be one) running to the flashlight. Just a thought.
  3. ya, what swartz said. Scale up the surefire a bit. You'll need a good reference pic to know exactly how much. Which method did you use to model that gun btw? There's a lot of little outline gaps liek swartz said. When to shapes meet each other, it's ok to overlap them a bit, it's better than leaving them not quite touching. Better than that though would be the "target weld" tool. Very simple, just click and drag one vert to another. Use 3dsm "Help" tab and search for "target weld."
  4. excellent news. Thanks for the heads up Hatchet.

    GT4

Most of you are in the UK yes? anyway, if you are I know there's a car magazine called EVO there. A Chaterham 7 that the mag built up for some feature was in that tailer in digital form! It's the little orange car near the end of the trailer. pretty cool. There was also an article in that magazine about how the GT4 team got their cars in game. Appently the main developer gets to driver all the cooler cars around a track a few times. And he calls that work
  6. cool pics and story Hatchet. Is that kind of thing a regular occurrence? I mean, getting ex-insurgents to point traps out? Also, you have a SCUBA team? what kinda stuff to they do in the desert (besides clear ordinance)? Or are they just explosive experts?
  7. Nice detail in the stock. Useless in any game, but a good model. As for the grip, it looks like a lot of time has been spent on the shape. To smooth out the lighting for it find the "smooth" modifier. Should be in the modifier pull down list on the right panel. I use 3DSM 6 too. Man it's great. Lots of nice little things that make it easier to use.
  8. sweet guys! DTD jusy keep on truckin'. That new skin in the top pic looks great. Can't wait to see whispers m4 too. good stuff.
  9. indeed. Most of "Kai's" stuff could be framed.
  10. very insightful. Thanks for clearing all that up Hatchet. It's good to know who to believe.
  11. that was amazing! it's a sweet little story too. Thanks for posting Swartz.
  12. wow! the sheer quality of the stuff is so amazing. It would be great on it's own, it stands up iteself as art. But the fact that it's all going to be playable in a game is....! they don't have modest goals either, but they back up everything they say with WIP's. I'm sold: thanks for the update swartz
  13. that's what i figured too Chems. Hatchet can you clear this one up? @Snake: the reason i say that the military has to hear it from outside sources is becuase it appears to have more cred that way. To a gov't official it doesn't matter how respectable the guy is because it is very easy to label his speach as a money grab no matter how much actual sense it made. Now if the gov't was hearing this from voters (not likely) or independant research it would be harder to disreguard. Think about it from the governments political viewpoint. It's gotta look good and get more votes. That's all I'm sayi
  14. very interesting read. thanks Whisper. Good article with plenty of insight. The only thing i can gripe about is sometimes the author sensationalized things a little too much. But i guess i agree, the ideas are good. but i'm sure they have been said before. The US government needs to hear this kind of stuff from people outside the military.
  15. how'd someone get that pic? is th ret just pasted on?
  16. omg, this can't be serious. I wonder if Count Chocula counts? mmmm.... I agree Day, most of the ones i know are just into the clothes and drugs. And yes, they can be "wicked sexy"
  17. thanks for the info guys. The weap was really just an exercise, just to see if i could model using the new tricks i learnt from trying to do that car. It'd be nice to try it out in-game, maybe in the TR mod for HL2, but that'd have to wait 'till after midterms. thanks anyway guys, i'll keep those "guidelines" in mind.
  18. there are so many things wrong with everything in that CNN guy said. He grouped all Dutch people together, assuming they all think/feel the same way. He plays up the stereotypes and downplays everything else. It's all measured by an equally arbitrary standard.
  19. can't really say what the total will be, maybe about 1000 more? I'll post an updated version once everything's said and done. I'm not sure, so don't quote me or anything, but i think FPW is HL2 is around 1500~2500? i'll check. thanks for the kind words guys.
  20. you guys have inspired me to pick up weapon modelling again. I've been trying to do a car (a really curvy one ) It's hard as hell. So i thought gun modelling would be nice break. Accuracy International AW series. 3700 polys (without scope and muzzle break...and shoulder pad now i look at it). Not for GR, but easily a FPW for HL2. what do ya think?
  21. that's going in-game!!? sweet! VBS? @dek: how'd you get some bits to be more shiney than others? is that just a property in the material editor?
  22. that's a beauty the only thing i'd sugest is trying to make the mesh on the stock belnd together more. I mean, it's clear where you've made seperate pieces, try to make the transition smoother. very nice though.
  23. ha! that brings back memories. Still as funny now as it was back then.
  24. that was hilarious. the scary part is you can pretty much understand all of 'em without really thinking, even "quintuple" someone's gotta start a regional slang thread.
  25. that has got to be one of the best stories ever told on these forums. Thanks Hatchet, and for everything else too. Back on topic: "Assault on Precinct 13" <--------plays out kinda like Rouge Spear. just came out with past Wed. Great movie, very spec ops. It also happens to be a very quality movie. Great actors, great script (most of the time) Basic plot: crocked cops assault an old police station to assassinate a organized crime boss. good cops (lead by Ethan Hawke) resists. Some very, very good CQB. Prolly some of the best every filmed. Very classy arsenal aswell. Sigs, Acc Incs. et
