too early to place bets. we've only seen two screen shots and a few unspecific articles...
-
erm, was that serious or sarcastic? might i ask why? did you already explain this somewhere else?

gotta love meshsmooth. very nice wires SF!
while we're posting tuts, here's a great one for modelling a car with meshsmooth and splines: check it out
this is what the tut produced:

@JTF2: This will be my fist attempt at a high poly car so I still haven't fully desided what method I'm going to use, most likely going to go with box modelling to start off with though and see where it goes from there. Tyre and rim so far has been a mix inbetween patch modelling (tyre thread) and simple edge extrude (rim), acctually easier than what you might think to model a tire thread.
Just do one section of the thread, clone it asmany times as needed, attach and weld the edges together and then use the bend modifier to turn it into a circle. Does come at the price of an astronomical polygon count though, render above is of around a 100 000 polys.Curvy shouldn't be a problem as I'm going to use mesh smooth and that generally makes everything nice and curvy...the problem might turn out to be all the sharp angles instead. Just looking at the car I can already tell it's going to be somewhat of a headache, front it nice and curvy while the rear end has pretty sharp angles.
extrude edge is great for stuff like that. It's so simple and always works great. It feels like cheating! Infact, that's exactly the same way i made my first tyre/rim. Hard edges in meshsmooth aren't that hard. If you get this already sorry, but meshsmooth finds tension between surfaces. for even squares, it would connect their midpoints. If you want to make a sharp edge, just make several edges very close together. That'll give you a nice sharp rounded edge. Also, don't worry about body gaps etc. those can easily be done with "cut" or whatever.
good luck mate! i never got time to finish my model. ah well, keep us posted on yours

i tried a few times to model hp cars. really tough, especially on curvy cars. tire looks great man. what method are you using?
-
there's this interview too SZ. There's the two sceens also which i'm sure you have seen.
looks like that's all the info there is right now. we just gotta wait for a bit more.
-
indeed SC. how 'bout a 10mm integrated suppressor version like there was in the original R6 book? great stuff man

-
I'm glad you asked this SZ. I saw a couple of screens of this game and the interviews and i was hooked. Also, H&D2 was a great game. If this is ever released, it should be amazing. this article is clearly talking about EiS. sorry if you've already read this. i got it from here: http://news.gamewinners.com/index.php/news/2672/
Centred around a great war between superpowers in the very near future, the game focuses on first person action set within vast battle landscapes. Massive online multiplayer capabilities enhance the sheer scale and dramatic impact of the fire fights and battles within the sprawling, realistic environments. Every building can be destroyed, the landscape is fully deformable, and players can command any of over 25 vehicles in the game, all based on their real-life counterparts and painstakingly designed to scale."To be working with Illusion Softworks was always going to be an exciting prospect, but it is made even more so by the sheer scale and ambition of this project," said Jean-Michel Perbet, President, Atari Europe. "The incredible work that the team has produced in the past leaves no doubt that this title will blow people away and set a new standard for the genre on PC."
"At Illusion Softworks we always strive to create the absolute best, and I think this will be clear when people see the game running," said Petr Vochozka, CEO of Illusion Softworks, and development director of the title. "It's a game on a different kind of scale for us, and represents the culmination of what we've been working towards over the years. There are lots of challenges already behind us, and many more ahead, but the exceptional team is equal to the task."
Illusion Softworks, co-founded in 1997 by Petr Vochozka, is located in Brno in the Czech Republic. The studio's mission has always been to develop the best computer games for personal computers and consoles, and with the aim of achieving that goal it has assembled a strong core of exceptional development talent, which shows through in the consistently excellent quality of games it produces.
The game, which will be named shortly, is due for European release within the Infogrames 05/06 fiscal year.

um....YES!
that sounds awesome Six. i always loved these mods, i'm really glad to see a fresh update. is there a dl link up yet? -
GTR arrived a few days ago! I ordered it from Sendit.com (based in Ireland i think) and it took less than a week to get here AND i didn't have to pay duty on it! thank you Sendit!

I'll do a review of it for GR.net. With a bit of luck it should be done mid-late may when my exams are done.
Rocky: Looks like i'm doing well enough on my marks anyway. I got early acceptance into the university of my choice (Dalhousie, in Halifax. one of the more prestigious ones in Canada).
-
thanks. i'll check 'em out as soon as i can find a bit of time to play GR

-
what kind of rets are they? stylish? similar to real sights/scopes? i'll give 'em a try.
thanks

-
great to see another update eSKwaad

Yes, i am very interested in Ghost Recon 3, it must have been a very difficult desicion to drop GR2 but i believe the end-result can only benefit from it.
About releasing some of my stuff: i have talking to EsKwaad over the last month or so about combining forces, his characters with some of my weapons, so probably his mod will contain some of my latest models. I am also trying to develop some new models for my 'Weapons of Swat' project when i am not busy working on stuff for Blackfoot at the moment, so i will see in the near future if i will go the full stretch or if i will release what i have so far.
what about some of those M4's or SPR's?patience!.......

And here is to another 2 years of GR modding!!!!

excellent. that's great news, all of it. last i heard, EsKwaad was busy with other stuff, don't know when he'll get back to those amazing chr's. anyway, good luck with it, and keep us updated as always.

SP missions involving Army Special Forces bread and butter, that being foreign internal defence would be great. Actually leading foreign troops into battle as is going on in Iraq and Afghanistan would certainly be an awesome expierince if done right.
And what WhiteKnight, Prozac, GRT et al said as well. Basically a bigger, meaner version of GR with many improvements. Not the canned gamelpay that GR2 has.
YES! gameplay: keep it like GR1. Let's have a list of objectives and several ways to approach them. Serellan and PSekula, i hope you guys are listening.

-
great, great news. thanks Chems.

-
yup. congrats man. it's been quite a ride, and i've just been looking on in awe. let's have another 2 years eh? i'm just hoping you're as interested in gr3 as you are in gr1

now, on a selfish note, how 'bout releasing some of this stuff?

-
nice. It makes me feel so safe knowing that our neighbours to the south have the #1 porta potty take down squads in the world.
-
maybe a little more explanation please... we're kinda dumb i guess.

-
Am I the only Glass Half Full person here? I think its an excellent decision, I thought that 6months time wasnt near enough to change GR2 into what the PC gamer wants. Hopefully the profits from GR2 are funding GR3 to be the hardcore game we really want it to be.
Go ubi and RSE, nice to see you had your heads screwed on after all. Youve made 1 fine game in GR1 Im sure you can do it again.
well said Chems. It was a bold decisions UBI, let's hope you made it for the right reasons and bring us a proper sequel for GR PC

It's nice to see that Serellan and PSekula have bee reading this thread. now back to making gr3 pc a great game you two.

i did this last year at my school. it was so much fun. my friends were running it, so everyone from our grade got in and not many other people did. lol, it was great. we got to chill in the teachers lounge listening to music etc. playing hide and seek in the school when it's completely dark was amazing. you get drunk on an empty stomach really quickly as we all soon discovered. the teachers who took shifts hanging out with us were all really chill and cool about the whole thing. good times, good times.
-
maybe when i'm at least a little drunk. at least then i've got an excuse

sounds very cool. i'm getting it now. I've got a question though, is this a tv show, fake characters and all? or more like a mocumentary/documentary?
another great web-tv show (which there seems to be growing number of) is Pure Pwnage it's hilarious, you won't regret it.
