  1. I got my parts for my system from various places. The cheapest place I have come across to date has been buyextremegear

I recently went back to the site though and they have raised some of their prices but still competitive. I'm glad I built my computer when I did because I would've paid more for it now than I did a couple of months ago which is weird.

  2. Cost me about £5,000 including new software and games to go with it and the monitor I'm using is a Ilyama ProLite E431S-S 17" TFT.

that certainly is a sweet setup. that's over 9 g's USD. what are you going to use this system for?? 4gb of ram damn.

well now i'm curious what your benchmark scores are. please post your aquamark, futurmark, sandra, GAT and CAS settings.

  3. put together your own computer it's fun. Then you know what kind of parts you are getting and can customize it to your liking. I spent less than 1300 on mine. Bought a dell at the same time for work and it costed 100 bucks more but came with no vidcard.

  4. GeForce 4 Ti 4200

I had the same card MSI version. Worked like a charm in my AMD system. The thing about my amd I remember is that my hsf sounded like a swamp cooler and I had to change it out every two months because it kept warping and wedging itself against the heatsink.

  5. the 230 and 115 is for different countries. 115 is normally for the US and 230v is for the rest of the world I think. That's the voltage rating on the outlets i believe.

not sure what kind of problems that would pose having your ram that way. You could alway test it using memtest86. look that up and download it. put it on a floppy and then boot up your system. It will tell you if your ram is producing any errors. If it is then it could be your ram.

    generic turbolink 420psu

I really need a new psu but this one does the job so far. Hopefully this setup lasts me a few years. :) My last computer was an athlon 850 but shorted out due to the heatsink on the cpu falling off and coming into contact with my brand new ti4200. Couldn't salvage anything from that afterwards.

  7. probably off the HP website. just look for bios updates or something. have to copy it on to a floppy and flash the bios from there. That should give you an up to date bios. If it works after then it was because your bios was out of date. If it doesn't then maybe it's your power.

  8. heres my specs:

    2.4 GHz Pentium 4 Processor

    1 GB DDR RAM

    Windows XP Media Center

    Radeon 9600xt

not sure how i would figure out what motherboard i got. but this comp is an HP.

there's your problem, you got an hp. j/k.

might have to get a better power supply. If it can fit in that hp case. get the latest bios for that system first. You won't be able to fiddle with the voltage settings if it's an hp. not sure if a new power supply will fit too. I had an hp before and there was hardly enough room in there to stick my finger in. How'd you manage to stick that 9600xt in there?

  9. Anyone know of a smallish 3D benchmark program that I could compare with? Smallish as I'd have to download it and I'm on K56

I don't know of any 3d benchmarks that are small. prime95 is small but that only tests your processor I think. I'm not a techie so the only ones I know of are aquamark and futuremark.

  10. @ghostie, how would i go about doing what you suggested?

Need to go into your bios screen. Depending on what kind of motherboard you have it will display different options. in one of the sections you should see something that will enable you to manually adjust your cpu voltage, your ram voltage and your agp voltage. I have Intel so my default was at 1.525. I now have it at 1.625 and my system is stable. I was crashing all the time when it was set at stock and having a 9800xt in there. But every computer is different so you may need to only adjust it .025 above stock.

You need to list your system specs so that we can help you a little more. what kind of processor, motherboard, ram etc.
