  1. i ordered a bunch of stuff from zipzoomfly in the past. I like them better than newegg.

I just found what I was looking for, the BFG 6800GT OC. I hear a lot of good things about BFG with their cards. You can find it on chumbo for 399.00 plus free shipping. Of course it's on backorder so I'll probably have to wait a while. Looks like i'm going to have to make do a while longer with my ati rage pro 32mb pci card. :wall:

Half of me was saying don't buy it, you need to buy the more expensive 6800 ultra or the x800xt pe. But reasoning took over and for what I have right now in my comp, I think I made a good buy by sticking to the gt card over everything else.

  2. I've been looking around to buy either one of these cards. I know that the x800xt's are out of stock almost everywhere. I ordered one through pcconnection and was told that the ship date was aug.5th. Not sure if that's going to happen because i hear different dates from different places. the 6800gt's are available now. haven't heard anything on the ultras.

I know that the 6800's support ps 3.0 and that they are based on new tech.

I hear the x800's are just souped up 9800's. I'm still partial to the x800's but the ps3.0 does sound more future-proof. Was wondering if there is much of a difference between ps 2.0 and 3.0? If it doesn't make a difference now and later then I'm probably going to lean toward the x800. Any thoughts and comments?

  3. I figured out what the problem was. It was the graphics device driver causing my intermittent freezes and reboots, the infinite loop deal that i now see plagues so many people with ati graphics cards. Dam U ATI!! :wall: Turned fastwrites and write combining off, don't ask me what they are but it was suggested that I turn them off. took off my OC. I'll see if this solves the problem.

  4. I still don't understand what could be causing my computer to crash, I took out ts2, all my drivers are up to date but a certain device driver is causing xp to crash. The error message only says that and cannot find which one is causing the error. Anyone else have a problem with this?

  5. hdd checks out. Seems that when my computer reboots it has something to do with a device driver. maybe a faulty driver. I'm probably going to uninstall hardware and do a process of elimination to figure out what's causing this.

  6. i guess i should check my hdd, that's the only thing i haven't. I have adaware, mcafee a/v+firewall, and spybot. Had 1 remnant of a virus that was attached in teamspeak 2. still got a crash after though. i'll check my hdd and see...

  7. I got a new power supply, noisetaker 470 watt. My computer still hangs and freezes randomly. I opened the event log in the administration tools and looked at what error messages came up around the time when my computer froze.

The same problem was evident in all events. I got this Remote_Procedure_Call Failed to load. or something to that effect. What is this?

  8. In a hot room I'm at 42-45 idle when I fire up 2 instances of prime95 it will go up to 60-63. With my A/C on it'll be 39-42 and 55-60. my 2.6c is oc'd to 250/200 on a 5:4 divider and i bumped my voltage up to 1.625.

  9. The problem with that is that you are still in the water when the ship blows and you lose 50%-100% of your armor and up to 60% health at best! You then have to get

behind a tree and use it for cover while (cringe) circle-strafing to hit the chopper. After many do overs (and trying God Mode cheats that don't freakin work!), I finally survived the swim with enough health and armor to soak up a couple of bursts from the chopper's door gun while using a palm tree as cover and perfecting my aim (the chopper hovers still for longer from this spot). It took a lot of goes, and I was exhausted.

The problem? After enjoying the freedom to solve problems creatively and experiment with different approaches for two hours, I was subjected to an hour of rigorous buggering by the developers. Stuck on a ship; no boats (I could think of ways to use them); no truck (a quick means of escape); health and ammo there one minute and gone the next. It was blatantly obvious how the developers wanted me to play that final sequence and nothing frustrates me more than saying to myself, "What do they want me to do?"

you have to jump off the back of the boat and swim to the shipwreck on the island directly behind. you won't lose health or armor and can use the boat as cover.

  10. I used the calculator and it added up to 389 watts. +50 brings it to 439, which is more than my psu is rated.

I don't hear any click noises from the HD but once in a while i do hear a high pitched humming noise coming from it. The freezes are random though.

how do you diagnose a hard drive?

  11. I'm running a 2.6c, 9800xt, is7, 1gig of geil 3500 ram, wd80se...

I have a generic turbolink 420watt $20 psu. The problem is sometimes my screen will freeze up in windows. No bsod or anything just whatever is on the screen will freeze that way and I'll have to hit the restart button everytime. It can happen randomly, when i'm on the web, playing a game, in a program. I'm wondering if it's a psu related problem or if it's something else. Everything is up to date, drivers, patches etc, temps are 40-45 idle and 50 at load so I don't think theres a problem there. Anyone have a similar problem? If it is the psu, what would you suggest. I don't mind dropping 100 bucks on a good one but is that really necessary given my current setup?

  12. I bought this game when it came out and am still trying to get through the single player mode. I need to plant explosives on a tower right now. Not sure how much more I have to go to get through the game but it has a load of missions. Waay more than call of duty, which I finished in a week. btw, I can only play a couple hours at a time a few times a week so that's why it's taking me so long to finish.

Also, I started to play this silly game which takes away my time spent playing farcry. I don't know why I like it so much... Runescape

  13. good stuff, I didn't realize how nice ghost recon played and looked when i upgraded. I started with an 850mhz amd thunderbird with an mx card, thought gr was cool enough, boy was i wrong. I went to a ti4200 and the graphics difference was unbelievable at higher settings. now that i have a 9800xt, i can still see big differences with aa and aniso turned on. Far Cry plays normal at 40 to 50 fps with everything high. I'm sure the next big game that comes out will probably cause slowdown in my current setup. I'm hoping it will last for a few years though.

  14. Ah, didn't know you had a prebuilt system. :stupid:

I would suggest starting with a new mobo/CPU combo. You'd probably need a new case, because companies like COMPAQ/HP don't make standard ATX cases. :(

Edit - Actually, I ment to say get a new video card first, then move onto the mobo/CPU.

In fact unplug your old system and take it to the gun range and use it for target practice. Just start from scratch and build a good one. will be cheaper than what you paid for the compaq

  15. I get 60-80 fps outdoors and 30-80 fps indoors. Indoor areas are sometimes on the low side due to greater use of bump mapping and dynamic\volumetric lighting I believe.

I get the same fps rates as you do too, everything set to high and AA at medium. Still learning how to tweak the settings. only played 3 levels so far. Game looks amazing. Gonna play around with the tweaks mentioned above to see what else it has to offer.
