dam that hsf on it is as big as the ultra's one. I'm gonna put in an order too.
-
coool. is leadtek a reputable company?
-
they already charged your card for something that wasn't shipped out yet? that's not right.
-
You gotta love the companies that aren't out to screw you over. I think at buyxg.com I saw their eta's on the evga's as 7/30, which is tomorrow already. If chumbo doesn't come through within the next few days I might go that route.

Outpost.com is showing the pny's in stock and ready to ship.
-
yeah i'm stubborn that way, when I have my mind set on a certain brand I can't go with another and feel good about it no matter what. Plus the inner jew in me wants to save a few bucks so I can wait a bit. if worse comes to worst i'll go down to my local comp usa and buy a pny because I saw a few there last time i went.

I read that the same thing somewhere, that the x800's are souped up 9800's and the 6800's are totally new tech. Not to knock on ati because I would take an xtpe over the Ultras. but the gt's are tops as far as the midrange cards go. Still waiting....

cool, post your thoughts on it when you put it in.
-
yes but 389 is better than 440. well when you get yours post your scores
-
what about buyxg.com? I saw their eta for the evga's at 7/30.

the cheapest computer parts I've found that you can get on the net are at buyextremegear.com I think they are an offshoot of cyberpowerinc. Everyone seems to like newegg and zipzoomfly.
-
If you want a pny that's available, I think this place has em in stock for 389.00 futurepower I saw a few in the CUSA store when I went today but i'm still going to hold out for the bfg. I think it'll ship next thursday for me.

If you look hard enough you're going to find benchies that are in favor of one or the other card. I saw some that show the pros consistently beating the 6800gt's and then the other way around. It's hard to believe what you read until later down the line when the cards are established. By that time though some other bigger and better thing will have come out for the same price you paid.

Building is fun, you learn as you go. I learned a lot from building my own computer. When I first started out I remember I put half the tube of cpu paste on the cpu. Had to go back and clean it off when I realized that my temps were through the roof. Now I know a rice drop of AS5 will do the trick.

I went to zipzoomfly and it looks like they are out of stock on the gt's. more waiting for me....

Yep it was a cheap ass heat sink and fan from fry's. that was my first computer since 486. I would still have it if it werent for the heat sink falling off the cpu and coming into contact with my vid card. which was a great ti4200

I signed up for 1gig of email on that spymac website. It's funny how mac users are so biased against pc users. I don't see that happening vice-versa though. I work with someone who's a mac user and all he talks about is how macs are superior to pc's. It's a funny phenomenon.

doom was the first multiplayer fps game I ever played. I cant remember if it was on a gateway 486 or earlier model that i had and I can't remember if it was on a 28.8k or 56k. Anyone else old enough to remember this?

I would say they're about equal. p4's probably better suited for business apps and stuff like that. I've had both in the past. The only thing I notice is that the fan's on the processor tend to run louder on the amd's. I think this is because amd's run hotter and need more powerful cooling than the p4's. I'm not an expert so i'm just speaking from personal experience. I was replacing my amd's hsf every 3 months because it would get so hot that the fan would warp after a lot of use. I'm sure now they are more efficient because I had an 850 mhz model. I see a lot of gamers go with a

If you buy from chumbo they'll ship it fedex 2nd day for free. Best deal i've found so far.

I got the beta version installed. makes it easier to use the windows firewall but you can disable that option with ease. I don't see any issues in gaming but I never act as a server so that remains to be seen. I don't see much of a difference exept that some activex controls are blocked and you must manually run them if you want it to work. Also when you download anything it'll give you an option to run or cancel everytime. ---haven't figured out how to disable this yet

Alienware is way overpriced. If you want stability then go for a p4 system. More expensive than the amd's but since you are used to paying for macs it should still be way cheaper. for 2k you can build an great system for yourself. If you don't want to build, just do a little research and look at companies like abs, or ibuypower or cyberpowerinc to put together your comp.

For some reason they have it listed at 448.20 now. Let the price gouging begin!!
-
That's what I thought, BFG has a direct link to them on their site so I would imagine if anyone is going to get first dibs on shipments, it's them. oh wells, i can wait.

Plus it seems it can be overclocked to match the 6800U levels. It also isn't that far off from the x800xt. Farcry sounds like a stellar bundle with that evga. If it was doom3 that was included then I would have been all over that one. Post your thoughts about the card after you get it. I got a reply from chumbo on the BFG 6800GT that i ordered and they have no idea when they are going to get more in.
