  1. Guns fired by the player have been purposefully quieted down. This was a game design decision. You can see this by taking say the M249, and AI backup or a buddy w/ the same weapon, get down right next to him. Check out the volume difference when he fires and you fire, its definately noticable.

    Why did they do this? Well if you have the volume up so the sounds of walking, talking, reloading sounded as loud as in real life, then when you fired (especially the louder guns) you would be damaging your hearing, just like in real life, not to mention maybe your speakers. And then, if you turned down your speakers because it was just too damn loud, then all the other sounds in the game would be nearly unnoticable. Unrealistic, yeah, but so what.

    Besides, they do this in every game that shoots guns anyways.
