Not familiar with this individual, but it is people like him that cause the real damage by inciting obtuse hatred and ill-informed political stances among the masses - many of whom probably don't have enough information (or dare I say, intellect) to form their own rational opinions.
Absolute cretin.
erm..gonna have to agree AND disagree with this.
Yes..it was low of him to disrespect the family and have a link to the entire video especially since everyone KNOWS the family didnt want to have the press at the funeral and are refusing interviews etc.
yet..."..inciting obtuse hatred and ill-informed political stances among the masses.." I have a problem with...unless that is people in the middle east DONT still stone women to death for getting kidnapped and raped (like in Turkey recently) or shot in the head on a soccar/football field for "alegedly" having an affair, etc. Yes, some people over there arent like that, but a good majority are and still keep with the old, barbaric ways and use religion as an excuse to hide behind.

Yes..those are US soldiers. In some thread in this folder somewhere, there's a link to the possible newer cammo pattersn for the US military and both are wearing examples of some of those patterns.

Two SAS soldiers were in driving in Germany and saw a US Army post. They decided to stop in for a visit and some chow. They approach the base and the Army MP walks up to the driver's window and taps it with his nightstick. The driver rolls down the window and the Army MP smacks him in the head with his nightstick.
"Why'd you do that?" the driver asked.
The MP replies "You're on a US Army base son. When I come up to your car, you WILL have your ID card ready."
The driver says "I'm sorry. We're in the British SAS and didnt know."
The MP examines the ID card and gives it back to the driver. He then walks around the car to the passenger side and taps on the window. As the other SAS soldier rolls down the window, the MP smacks him with the nightstick.
"What the hell did you do that for?!?" the soldier exclaimed
The MP replies "Just making your wish come true."
"Huh?" replies the SAS soldier
The MP answers "I knew that as soon as you pulled away, you were gonna say "I wish that ###### tried that with me!" "

...as Don Henley points a finger at the TV and says "Now see? Didnt I tell you all about this way back when with my song "Dirty Laundry"?"
But yea..I have to agree that it seems that the media is moving more and more to "grisly, negative reporting" than true journalism where not only both sides are presented but also good stories are reported on (until they, the medi get fed up..look at Jon Bonnet Ramsey and that still unsolved case...last I heard, her father, now living in Michigan, is pondering a political career in the state.)
It's like the media and their griping about not showing the flag draped caskets of fallen soliders..they dont care about those that support and defend their right to a free press, all they care about is ratings. Look at the most recent "unseen" photos..how much you all want to bet the press by Monday will be screaming for all of those to be released so they can be shown at the 6pm news..whether or not it could violate the civil rights of the accused and hinder possible further investigations?
personally...I'm, getting sick of the American media and wish there was a major overhaul of the industry.

Are night vision "googles" more useful at "searching" the night?

actually yes.. alo there's suppose to be a way to use them in a different manner. I think the cheat code is "splitercellrocks" and what happens is you can sneak up on Tangoes and choke them to death with the NVS strap.
other than that, I think the only thing you can do with them besides "search the night" is to stand on the corner of a rubble strewn street and pick up chicks with stylish NVS.

I know the county police down in Naples Florida have a sweet OH-6 all souped up at no cost to the people. All from the sale of seized property in drug busts.
-
There's a county in Ohio that uses a Lambo 5000S for the D.A.R.E. program. Usually pops out at the Ohio Speedway now and then.

(and the fact the HQ is on a military base should be a clue)
the fbi/dea acd. is on a military base?
i heard that once but wasnt sure.
if you want to quote me, do so correctly...I never said FBI or DEA...I said NSA as in the National Security Agency. Strange really...called them up one time to find out where to look for employment requirements (like how the CIA homepage offers/has) and the first thing I heard on the phone was "National Security Agencey...Sergant First Class [forgot her name] speaking, this line is unsecured. How may I help you sir or ma'am?" Yea....they're military.
As for the "day planner" umm...reasons why :
1. because I wanted to
2. because I can
3. Hrm...12 pages for phone numbers, a spiffy section that converted metric to US/ US to metric and a slew of other things...
@kwel :
The contractors? As I said (and expanding for better understanding), if any other company in any non-US nation wants to help build a viable economy in Iraq for Iraq as well as help bring a better living enviroment, then I'd bet they'd be welcomed with open arms..but since some contries think that making jobs and lowering unemployment in Iraq as well as trying to increase the living standards to at least a 1/10th of what they all have, but dont because they "dont like the US", then they're one to blame..not America. Outsourcing has no point in the discussion either. If Company A can do the civilian job right and less than Company B, then A is getting the contract (hence the prior reference to Beirut and the Marines)
As for the vauge interp of Article 3...then by your defination, all those who are vocally opposed to the US military holding the Iraq's in Gitmo should keep quiet because they(the POWs) then fall under Article 3 and are under military jurisdiction and not civilian control. POWs are that..Prisoners of War. Saying otherwise is akin to saying you're allergic to apples but you love to eat applesauce.

Geeze....
Civilian contractors are "in a specialized role"?? Damn...my MEPS counciler should've pointed that out. I wouldve gone as an "armed convoy guard" than a Field Artilleryman...oh wait..that's right...those guys over there are not in the military...
First of all, the civillians there are just that. Civilians. Yes, there is still fighting going on, but then again look at Japan after WW2...almost the same problems then as there is now. So the civilians are armed to protect food, medical supplies, etc, does that make thyem mercs? No...it makes them people who are trying to ensure that the Iraqi people dont get shafted like those in Ethipoia, Somilia, Hati and other 3rd world nations where the moment the Red Cross airdrops aid (because they dont want to be shot at or kidnapped) those with the guns get the stuff and the non-combatants get squat. The civilians guarding convoys are just basically just more well equipped security guards..not mercs. Those in Iraq are not hired by the military but were contracted by the government. There is a difference.
Mercs on the other hand are "Bob? Here's $10K...go to Afghanistan with a team and hunt Osama down. I know you're a civilian, but do it anyways. You'll get an additional $50K when you off him"
Why is there American contractors there? Probably because they have the money to help rebuild and not even blink at spending $20+ million to install running water, electricity, better building and housing, etc. As for the US asking for more $$ for Iraq..question...think it's all going to the military? What about medical aid, supplies etc to be given to the Iraqis?
Of course, those who are against the political change in Iraq and are armed would love to have more supplies to continue fighting...hence why there are armed people guarding convoys.
Also...considering some groups are taking civies hostage because they dont like the military (yet another example of the need for better education over there imo) is another reason why civies are armed..to ensure they dont get kidnapped and threatened with being burned alive just because they are over there trying to see that little Achmed can have an indoor toilet, running hot and cold water, and maybe even a brighter future than before.
Also..look at the aftermath of Beirut. The Marines learned a lesson and when they re-enforced the US Embassy in Hati, they used American steel, American concrete and American workers to do it. Why? Wasnt because of patriotism, it's because they knew the civilians could do a better job then the locals did in Beirut (which was proven when Army Rangers tried to blow a hole in the wall...and failed, only leading to a Marine FAST member fixing the situatiuon with an M2..). If other companies in other nations want to help rebuild, I bet they'd be welcomed to set up shop and create jobs for the Iraqis over there...and in the process have armed security personel to watch over them. Just because a group is irate and shooting at anything non-Iraqi doesnt mean the reconstruction has to be halted..
Also...the NSA isnt a civilian company...yes, it has civies, but it's mostly military. Call them up sometime (the number is available via the US government phone directory..there's some 800 number you call..I lost the day planner that had it in it.
) and see who answers the phone (and the fact the HQ is on a military base should be a clue)ok..there..my 2 cents worth...now back to eating popcorn.

well...the soldier in question could be that rare soldier that fires left handed. They do exist.
That would explain the reversal of the equipment. -
the old school "Nam Era" BDUs are good..the pockets are slash pockets whereas the new ones are horizontal. / <---old style --- <---new style. The curent style makes it a bit more difficult to get into the pockets when you have on your LBE (or whaever they call it now..going by 1988 terminology here..sorry). The button fly is better than a zipper fly because look at maintence. Ever try to sew a zipper back on in the field? Buttons are eaiser to maintain when needed. (You also dont have the opposition yelling in their language "Hey! Barn door's open! Is that a white flag or are you happy to see the combat zone?") American BDU pants also have a pull-tab sort of device on the sides that helps the pants fit better. Some non-US BDUs have a pocket on the upper arm and that would be nice to see incorporated into current service uniforms, but overall (and not because I'm a yank) I'd have to say American BDUs are probably fairly good.
It would be nice if some 3rd party combined the best of all the world's BDUs to make the most sturdy and comfy BDUs

sits back, eats popcorn and watches this thread slowly become politically based
Anyone want some popcorn? It's Pop Secret Corn on the Cob and really good and buttery

oops!
Apologies to all..got my Shooters mixed up...it's not Splinter Cell but Metal Gear Solid 3. My bad...but still....MGS3 does allow you to custom your cammo. It's mentioned in the June ish of GamePro on page 34. Now if they can do that for MGS3...why not GR2?
-
actually Navy corpsmen are the most gutsyiest...try only your K-pot, your flak vest, a 9mm sidearm and rushing to where Marines done ###### off someone firing back at them. Medics, imo, rank up there with FOs for Arty units (who else puts themselves downrange of friendly arty fire to direct it..transpose a number? Ooops! There goes Johnson! Medic! ).
Whats more cowardly....now now...dont start things up. That phrase could be considered uncalled for by some...

The only man-made structures you can see while in space would be the shuttle or possibly the occasional sattelite.

well...and the International Space Station and the Hubble telescope

but back on topic...
Actually, other than changes in skins and some equipment (since the AK47 hasnt been manufactuered in quite sometime...well over a decade) there's already been samples of "what to expect" in in GR..from the deserts, to the mountains, to the heavily wooded areas to cityscape. Using the 3 orginal disks and a few mods, the area is already out there ready to play.
Personally, I'd like to see more silent ops with no sniper option, more weapons choices like the Daewoo K-2, and more cammo schemes. Hell, the newest Splinter Cell is customable where you can pick cammo schemes for your uniform and face paint. Someone might like traditional woodland cammo, other might want the Marine cammo, and still others might want to see tigerstripe cammo.

Have you seen the newest Jessica Simpson commercial??
Ok it goes like this....
scene opens with Jessica sitting in front of an obviuosly painted backdrop of Yellowsteone National Park with a beaver on her lap
Jessica : Hello, I'm Jessica Simpson..no relation to Bart..and I'm here to talk to you about a serious problem that not only is here in America, but internationally and world wide as well. This is Bob (she holds the beaver up) Bob is a beaver. Bob is in danger. Each year, millions, if not more ranging into the thousands, of people each year commit sadistic, twisted acts against Bob and his beaver brothers and sisters. The act? I'm talking about people eating them. Every year, especially when I go to the Virgin Islands for Spring Break, I hear of drunk men bragging on how much beaver they eat every weekend. Bob is not a food source. Though he could use a good dentist to fix his two front teeth, that doesnt give the right for people to eat him. I also hear of women in the San Francisco, Greenwich Village and Portland areas eating beaver too. Ladies! Arent we more civilized then men? We need to stop the madness. Please, please, tell your Congressman, State Representives and the other guys that that sit in Congress how mad you are that Bob's family is getting eaten. Maybe then we can save the beavers so they can eat more virgin growth forests as is their Constipational Rights. Thank you.

Kind of reminds me of that "Kids in the Hall" skit where Queen Elizabeth was giving a speach to the Canadians about them no longer wanting to recognizer her authority, etc. And she goes one and one getting a bit irate and talking bad about them, until Prince twit (not Charles, the other one..I forgot his name) came in and laughed about the joke he played on "mummy".
Also reminds me of what a comedian said on the Bob and Tom show. He was in Canada up in Toront and he said the Canadians are screwy, etc. Then he mentions one said to him "Well, you just dont understand our European culture" to which he replies "European culture? What European culture? You're 2hrs away from Buffalo for god's sake."
That Video.

first, I'm not racist..just keeping on topic about the fanatical types over in the middle east like those who did the beheading, etc...granted yes, the US has social problems and yes, I could eat tons of bandwidth up by posting the wrongs in this country like people wanting to make pot legal and stating it's not as harmful as the anti-pot people say..even though here in my country about a month ago, a woman, high on pot and in possession, rear ended another vehicle and killed 2 children bith under the age of 6 as well as critically injuring the driver of the other vehicle..she's getting some big jail time....
..but this thread is not about the wrongs of America except for the media maybe..but it's about the video released about a human being, trying to provide a better life to those in need..
and "good majority" is not what you think it is or imply I said..
"good majority" as in "over 60% of the Iraqi population..."
not "good" as in "this is good and that is evil"
