Good question - I'm curious about this myself. There has been no public statement in interviews and previews yet about what engine they are using.

Congrats on your new upgrades! Enjoy BTW, I've read Maximum PC every month for the last 4-5 years. However, I find the real "hardcore" PC enthusiast magazine nowadays to be CPU (Computer Power User). http://www.computerpoweruser.com/

There's also a new video interview with Lockdown devs Rafael Chandler, Jim Van Verth, and Chris Groegler at GameSpot: http://www.gamespot.com/ps2/action/tomclan...six4/media.html New Lockdown screens here: http://www.shacknews.com/screens.x/rainbow...ckdown/1/013105 BTW, sad to see JCal leaving HomeLAN, but it's cool he's got a new gig with Computer Games Magazine

I edited the above post to note that the release dates I mentioned were speculation on my part. It's a pretty good bet SC3 will come out around March There's a public blog entry at one of the RSE dev's websites (Rafael Chandler's) that states R6-4 is near completion, so it may come out sooner than we think My guess is as good as anyone here about when GR2 PC and the GR2 Xbox Mission Pack (or whether or not it's in development - just assuming it is) will come out.

Yup, I'd agree that if the prices for a Radeon 9800 Pro and GF 6600 GT are equivalent, the 6600 GT is the way to go, especially if you've had a good experience with your previous Nvidia GF 4 card. The Radeon 9600XT's are priced the same as the old Radeon 9800 Pro's and offer just over half the performance - it's one of the worst buys out there. The Radeon 9800XT's are not much faster than the Pro version, and again not worth the price mark-up. ATI is hitting back soon with the upcoming Radeon X800XL which I believe is to compete directly with the 6600 GT, and will be the best price/pe

I have nothing but praise for Antec PSU's. I have an Antec TruePower 480 in my main rig, and an Antec TruePower 430 in my wife's system. Both have dual fans and are whisper quiet. The new TruePowers also have the special SATA HD power connector, and an external connector if you need to plug in a HD outside your case. I'm amazed that in my main rig (which has two SATA drives, single PATA drive, dual optical drives, 4 case fans, and video card requiring a molex connector) that I actually used up all the cables from the PSU If I was building a new system now, I'd definitely get the Antec

To me, it makes no sense to have 2-3 Tom Clancy titles launching at once this March (GR2 PC, SC3, R6-4). Better to spread the wealth a little more evenly over the year ... EDIT: The following is ALL SPECULATION! I have the same info as everyone else about when anything is coming out. It's just my opinion on how Ubi could/should release things ... - It looks like SC3 Chaos Theory is on track for a March release (with the beta MP demo and all) after it got pushed back from an Xmas 2004 release. With SC's huge following on Xbox/PC, this will realistically be Ubi's biggest seller for th

Make sure you do your research on where you bring your HD to, especially if it's to recover critical data. Ask trusted friends, or check with the Better Business Bureau etc. And remember, you get what you pay for. Hardware can always be replaced, but nothing is more valuable than your data. Obviously you've had a bad experience getting help online, but many of the knowledgable guys on this forum know way more than the average tech in a computer store. I don't know how many times I've overheard the wrong info given by a tech ... whether it's to make more money, or they just don't know.

Is this the one you mean? ← Yup, thanks for the link Dan. Kinda cool how Ubi lets us surf all over their FTP site

I agree that the story in SC1 was pretty convoluted and lost me after awhile. Ubi did try to improve things by ordering a brand-new intro cinematic for the PS2 and GameCube versions. It's worth watching if you've never seen it. This opening cinematic was later released for download in four parts on the official Splinter Cell site. For the benefit of those with the earlier Xbox and PC versions which do not have this video, Splinter Cell Retreat has the entire 4:38 minute cinematic in one .zip file here: http://files.3dretreat.com/file.asp?fileid=573 This new intro video shows the ba

Cool, thanks for the info harntrox. So I assume you were/are doing some dev work for an Xbox game? Anything you can reveal to us?

I think the word you are looking for is "code-name" It's just like how some movies have code-names attached to them before they figure out the name of the title or to maintain secrecy. E.g. Some Star Wars films used code names to avoid drawing a crowd at filming locations.

Hope that GR2 shows up in the "T" section under "Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon 2" in the second half. Same with R6 Lockdown. We'll see soon enough. Unfortunately, GR2 was neglected in a a recent shooter round-up in PC Gamer ...

I also own and played both the Xbox and PC versions of the first SC. I agree the SC experience on the Xbox is superior and here are some of the reasons: 1) The control stick on the Xbox controller is analog, and is much more intuitive. Depending how much pressure you use, you can make Sam silently creep forward, or dash into the next dark corner This beats out using the mouse wheel to control speed by far. 2) The use of vibration feedback on the Xbox controller is much more cool for picking locks than the keyboard jamming session it is on the PC 3) Unless you have a very powerful

GR2 combined console sales (PS2 + Xbox) sold 1.4 million copies by the end of 2004 (within 7 weeks) http://www.ubisoftgroup.com/News/CA%203eme%20trim%2004-05 GR1 Xbox sold 1.0 million copies in its first 7 weeks of release: http://forums.3dretreat.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=4285 GR1 PC took 3/4 of a year to hit half that amount (0.76 million copies) http://forums.3dretreat.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=3985 The numbers speak for themselves ... http://www.ubisoftgroup.com/News/CA%203eme%20trim%2004-05 I'd be interested to find out what percentage of the GR2 sales were Xbox vs PS2.

I've been following the development of the Rainbow and Ghost series since 1998, and have had the privilege of interviewing various RSE dev team members through the years. Unless there has been drastic changes in how they do things, you can bet your booties that the GR2 PC team is aware of the wishlist and they take our ideas into consideration. So have no doubt RSE is aware of what we want. However, remember that "taking ideas into consideration" does not mean what you want in particular will make it into the final product ... what features make it into the game depends on many time/resourc

Hi Kimi, glad to see you around here Wishing you all the best with your CM application!

Usually Bill Brown does the in-game music for the GR series. However, I don't believe the music in that trailer is by him. His music is at the official GR2 website, and as far as I can tell, they only used the first piece in the Xbox version Most likely the trailer music is created in-house at Ubi and they own the rights to it. Otherwise, Ubi would have to pay royalties/licensing fee to use a 3rd party's music (e.g. by so-and-so rock/techno band), and I doubt that is the case. The only one who may be able to answer your question is the person at Ubi who pieced together the trailer, and

First of all, thanks to everyone who contributed to the GR2 Xbox -> GR2 PC wishlist. Although we had edit out a few inflammatory and off-topic comments here and there, the exercise has been generally successful. There are a couple areas in the wishlist that are still a bit deficient IMHO: 1) We need more suggestions from people who run GR1 dedicated servers - what dedicated server features do you want to see for GR2? 2) Also, not many people mentioned what weapons/attachments they thought should have made it into GR2, but didn't appear in the Xbox version Even if just the Xbo
