http://www.videogamer.com/news/31-03-2008-7899.html So ... will the DLC come out for PC and will it be free?
-
Then you're right, it is the CPU fan What to do depends on what CPU she is running. Is it a higher-end Pentium 4 or Athlon XP? Those ran really hot and the stock coolers are even noisy. If she's got a Core 2, then the stock fan even sometimes stops running cuz the cpu runs so cool.

Ubisoft buys rights to "Tom Clancy" name
CR6 replied to Pave Low's topic in The Video Gaming Industry Discussion
Been away for a couple weeks and just read this news. First thing that came to mind was "nail in the coffin" After observing things for years as webmaster for 3 Clancy game fansites (since even before GR and SC were a twinkle in Ubi's eye), Clancy and Ubi heading in this direction is no surprise. There's a lot of (unfortunately futile) anger and frustration directed to Ubi, especially from long-time R6/GR/SC fans, but personally I'm not angry or frustrated, just weary of Ubi. Weary of the Ubi game designers need to "fix what ain't broken", weary of their need to copy the latest trends -
Don't want to beat a dead horse, but I'll put in my comment since GR2 PC mention was made. In hindsight after seening how Ubi handled the disastrous release of Lockdown PC (Starforce, broken multiplayer over Ubi.com, poor support to create decent mods, etc etc) the decision to cancel GR2 PC was actually a smart one for Ubi as it helped to postpone the damage to the GR PC franchise for a longer period of time.

Rocky, I had a friend who just put together a system with a Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L motherboard (about Cdn$100). The board has solid-state capacitors (so they won't burst and leak) and a great value. Apparently it's got a lot of great reviews at overclocker sites, and my friend was able to get his E8400 up to 4GHz I actually just purchased the RAID version of that board for my new system (GA-P35-DS3R)

Interesting article: http://www.gamespot.com/pages/news/show_bl...newstop;more;15 I'm personally VERY interested in that bonus DVD retrospective (Hope it plays on a regular DVD player and not just Blu-Ray )

Nice find. Wonder if Will Porter reads these forums?

Distrubution shows The 20th in California - east coast the 25th. Vista all retail flavors have the same date shipping with SP1. Don't write this in stone though. I have seen them move the date before. It's just what MS is telling them currently. BTW note that is retail. There is no QUE for OEM listing SP1 or seperate for sale... Nice. Thanks for the update! I'm putting together a new rig soon and I'd prefer to have an OEM Vista 64-bit disc with SP1 on it already (saves a bit of time for those inevitable reinstalls )

Just curious what do you mean by media? You mean the installation DVD? I'm upgrading to a Q6600 rig soon. Just need to decide on a mobo and graphics card

new "desert siege" co-op collection confirmed..
CR6 replied to 5timechamp's topic in GR:AW 2 - Xbox 360
I hope I'm mistaken, but the only way you're going to buy the Legacy edition is if you order it from the UK/Europe. Ubi did this last time with the GRAW1 "Premium Edition" where European gamers got a new retail original game+DLC bundle while N. Americans had to just download the DLC or wait for it to come out free in Xbox Magazine. Ref: http://forums.3dretreat.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=6362 -
Sorry to jump in so late, and basically ignore the last 6 pages, but just wanted to respond to the above GR Retreat is still "alive" but has very sparse updates because honestly, Ubi gives us almost next to nothing worthwhile to post. Same goes for their Splinter Cell franchise too. I agree that Ubi PR does not seem to care about fansites. They seem content to send info to the big gaming sites (GameSpot, IGN etc) and create their temporary promotional "communities" that they promptly shut down soon after sales of a new release drop after a month. Contrast this to a company like Blizzard

Hey Roco, have you heard the ETA on when the Vista SP1 disc for OEM and retail is hitting stores? Also any word about the XP SP3 ETA?
-
I would go for the quad core if this is a gaming PC However, if you want to o/c, I have a friend who o/c'd the E8400 to 3.6GHz with the stock cooler. The Wolfdale CPU runs <30C at stock clocks You shouldn't have too much prob hitting 3GHz with the Q6600 Can't go too wrong with any ASUS mobo. If you want SLI, then go with an Nvidia chipset. Otherwise, the Intel P35 is very stable.

I used to use SiSoft Sandra. It's free and has a burn-in mode

Win XP Service Pack 3 [Available April 29th]
CR6 replied to ROCO*AFZ*'s topic in Computer Discussions
I've actually been using the SP3 beta to save time on non-mission critical builds. Very good. I'm just disappointed that they didn't put in IE7. or WMP11. or DX10 LOL But at least IE7 - it's available to "non-Genuine" customers anyway -

CR6 replied to GRIN_Wolfsong's topic in GR:AW (PC) - General Discussion
Wolfsong, there were some returning characters from GR2 and some new ones, but Ubi didn't really make a detailed list available, and definitely not as much detailed bios as for GR1-2. Here's the official website: http://www.ghostrecon.com/us/ghostrecon3/characters.php I just remember there was one guy with the same name as medal of honor winner Paul Smith. I think there was someone with the same last name as Serellan Shouldn't GRIN have the list of characters in a design doc sitting in the studios somewhere? -
Good to see you 'round Cocobolo. 3dR was hosting the YOTM site, but HotPants/The Blakeness/Skyjockey decided not to renew the YOTM URL and it looks like some cybersquatter has it now. I just haven't got around to removing the link from GR-R. You can still get to a mirror of the mod here http://files.3dretreat.com/file.asp?fileid=664

Tinker, what motherboard/chipset do you have? If you are running a Pentium D 3GHz, your CPU/mobo may actually be more of a bottleneck the performance of a 8800GT. Depending what motherboard you have, it may be well worth it to upgrade your CPU too

Yeah, interesting article! I wonder where I can sign up to be a video game analyst ...
-
Yeah, I can't wait to catch this one too. Who here is betting that if this film grosses half a billion dollars that we will see Indy V and VI? There's rife speculation on the Internet that Lucas/Spielberg are setting LaBeouf up to helm another trilogy of Indy movies. http://www.vanityfair.com/culture/features...dy_update200802 Also, anyone here pick up those Young Indy DVD sets? I caught the first few episodes when they originally aired and glad they finally came out on DVD for fans.

That is just an amazingly cool bonus for GF8xxx users. But I agree with Rocky ... would be curious about the frame-rate hit, especially for the lower end cards.

What amazes me is that Sony is still selling almost as many PS2s as PS3s. No wonder MS released a statement about a "shortage" ....

Sweet. Thanks for the link HF! You probably know Blizzard bought over the 2nd studio working on Ghost (Swinging Ape) so any further development will be all done in-house. With Blizzard pretty much becoming a publisher after the merger with Activision, they should have all the resources they need. Anyone here remember that Blizzard was rumored to be also working on a first-person shooter set in the SC universe, and some guy who quit Blizzard leaked out some convincing screenshots, but of course all that was officially denied ...
-
Man, where does that guy get time to play all those games and crank out an animated review every week? I'm always impressed by the song picks for his intros and outros ...
-
Yep, I was really looking forward to Ghost too ... since it was slated to come out for the first Xbox! Only thing that bugged me was there was no PC version planned. Glad to hear it's not totally canned. It seemed to combine the best elements of 2 best-selling 3rd-person adventure titles: Tomb Raider and Splinter Cell. However, I wonder if it suffered from the same feature-creep as say ... Duke Nukem. I still applaud Blizzard for not releasing a game they would not be totally happy with (as opposed to certain other game publishers discussed around here ) Can't remember if this was pos
