  1. Thanks for dropping in tonight CR6 you played really well considering how much rubbish you had to listen to in TS, hope you can make it a regular event with the rest of us.. 0:)

It was a real pleasure to play with you all, and it was an honor to take all those bullets for my team LOL :P

No worries about the Teamspeak - you Spartans are very cool-headed and professional-sounding under fire. :notworthy:

It's also a good thing I didn't have a mic as your concentration would have been broken with all my "Doh!'s" walking into claymores etc. :wall:

After often being frustrated with playing with the run & gun/spray & pray style of the typical COD4 server, it was a real treat to play with the gr.net mod - much more intense, exciting and gratifying. The gr.net mod for COD4 is pretty much what I would imagine as the perfect next-gen successor to the original [GR] MP experience.

Thanks to all of you for your help and especially Rocky to get me squared away with details like Xfire and Teamspeak

BTW, Rocky does a great Sean Connery impression

  2. Go ahead and download it.

You need to locate your "usermaps" and "mods" folders

create a folder named "mp_uday_v2" in "usermaps"

put the 2 .ff files in there.

Thanks for the info. Only prob is I can't find the usermaps folder.

There is a mods folder but it is here:

    c:/program files/activision/call of duty 4 - modern warfare/mods

But no usermaps folder - do I have to create that myself?

  3. Turns out it was my damned wireless. POS. Whatever, thanks for the link again Tinker, it still moved faster than Skype once I got wired in (bypassed my WLAN router and went straight through the cable box).

Still no luck with the wireless eh?

My ADSL at home went down for the weekend. Thought it was my Linksys modem this time (as my LAN connections were fine) but turns out they were upgrading my bandwidth speed from 1.2 Mbps to 2.5, so I guess I'll forgive my ISP for the downtime this time ... <_<

  4. Yep, pretty cool CG trailer ... I think it got a lot of TR fans in a tizzy that Lara would say goodbye to her mansion like that :P

Of course, I'd always take these trailers with a grain of salt, as usually what shows up in the trailer may not actually be in the game.

Funny how Lara forgot to take her Desert Eagles with her.

Rocky, is Black Knight a UK reference?

  5. You can't beat Lian-Li mine is 2002 PC-70 full tower and it's been the best thing since, still make new builds in it, just an awesome case.

    This one.

I can not fault this full alu. case, after 6 years still preforms.

Yeah, my last 3 builds all had Lian-Li cases. They are super sweet with the brushed aluminum and just "feel" nice as all the parts just slide (yeah, I said slide, not fit haha) together so well.

Do they still sell those PC70's with the 2 80mm fan squares on the front? I actually like that design (although I usually unplug 1 or both intake fans if they are too noisy) I thought they all moved to the big 120mm square on the front (my last two PC60B's had that design) ... have to check the website I guess

  6. Mostly they are in an uproar over the tease that was a cancelled announcement at E3. Perhaps in the future they will be in an uproar over run-n-gunnin' later though.

More news about the cancelled announcement:

E3 2008: Microsoft behind Bungie misfire

It's been a turbulent past couple of weeks for Microsoft-emancipated studio Bungie. After churning up a good deal of excitement last Monday with news that an announcement was imminent, the Kirkland, Washington-based outfit proved that its operations are not as autonomous as many may have perceived them to be. In the midst of a teaser campaign, the developer abruptly announced that it would not be revealing its new project as anticipated, at the bidding of "our publisher."

My guess is M$ thinks there's no point revealing this game if the game won't be out by the all-important Christmas sales season this year. So .... any bets for a fall 2009 release?

  7. Hmm ...

    http://www.gamespot.com/news/show_blog_ent...pic_id=26483669

According to the source, the new Halo game will be a spin-off that resembles "a cross between Ghost Recon and Gears of War." It will reportedly tell a "less cartoony" and "more bloody, violent, and grim" tale of a battle between UNSC forces and the pan-racial religious empire known as the Covenant.

    Sounds like a winner.

Now we know what Serellan is working on ...

  8. Just want to mention I've been using Foxit reader for a year now and found it is excellent. Adobe Reader has been major bloatware the last couple versions.

Case in point: even though Reader 9 has been pared down to 30+MB, Foxit is still way slimmer and faster at just 2.5 MB and does most of what you'd want a PDF reader to do.

So this begs the question why does Adobe Reader file size need to be 10x larger? Maybe it's all the things it's doing in the background that you don't need/want it to like the irritating Adobe 6(?) that installed an eBooks folder without asking?

  9. No luck with the log-on at that IP address. Used the ones suggested with admin as either a log-on or password. Tried it with my typical series of log-on/password combos also and still not luck getting in. Found out though that I have model WRT300N | v0.93.3 if that helps any.

Yep, that's the same router I have sitting in a box in my office. Did you get it brand-new or used? Don't worry if you don't have the CD - you don't need to use it.

Glad you found how to hard-reset the router - http://192.168.1.1/ works for ALL linksys routers to login to the firmware (just like how http://192.168.0.1/ is the universal URL for D-Link routers)

Before you go on, make sure you don't need to register the MAC address of your router with your ISP. That was the main problem with my home router - my ADSL provider only lets me register 2 MAC addresses. However, my cable provider at work doesn't need to register a MAC address, so all routers are plug and play. If you are gettings the router to work some of the time, it's likely you don't have to register your MAC address.

This may sound obvious, but it's funny how many people don't do this: Make sure you make all changes to your firmware from a computer hard-wired into your router.

Once you log into the firmware, I'd suggest you reset it to default settings. Then look around for a reputable site find a step-by-step setup how to securely setup your wireless home network. If you know how to build your own system and reinstall Windows, it's really not that hard to click around the firmware and figure out what does what with some reference from the internet

Also, it's very unlikely that your laptop and family's computers have a Wireless-N network chip, so make sure your router is not set to "Wireless-N devices only"

If you're really ambitious, you can try upgrading your router's firmware to see if that helps

Also, for your desktop/laptop etc, I'd suggest just using the Windows wireless connection feature instead of any 3rd party sofware

Finally, I'd suggest just using WPA for security (not WEP). WPA2 is better, but I'm not sure how well Vista/XP natively supports it.

In terms of channels and interference, there are some freeware utilities that can detect what channels are least used in your neighborhood, although in Ruin's case it may not be necessary at your current location

Finally, I want to say that I was a Linksys "fan" for a years, even before they were bought by Cisco. I thought their products were generally of higher quality than competitors such as D-Link etc. Their products are still generally more expensive (e.g. like paying for a Sony instead of LG)

I've just had more problems setting up wireless networks with Linksys vs. D-Link since Wireless-G products came out. So I have recently just been recommending D-Link to friends. (No experience with D-Link Wireless N though)

Ruin, if you still keep having probs, consider getting a different brand wireless router at a place like Best Buy which will accept a return from you if replacing your Linksys doesn't fix your wireless network woes.

  10. Whoa, I thought Nvidia just released their 9xxx series in April, and now they've come out with an even faster chip - the GTX 280. Short lifespan for the 9xxx generation (unless they plan to make their 9600GT their new "low-end card")

And after eating Nvidia's dust for the last year or more, it looks like ATI/AMD is back in the game with their HD 4800 series. Lots of favorable reviews today.

So ... anyone want to upgrade their 8800? Hehe :shifty:

  11. My best advice is to go out and try a D-Link router. I personally own a Linksys Wireless G router and I had a tough time configuring it, and it still drops several times a month.

I have a Linksys-N router at work (yes, the one where the desktop Wireless adapter has 3 wires to a funny looking antenna that looks like a TIE fighter and takes up room on your desk) After 2 weeks I decided to put back in the box and go back to a hard-wired router because of constant dropping or the SSID not showing up.

I've installed 4-5 D-Links for several friends and offices, and have had NO problems. You can get a Wireless-G one on sale ~Cdn$40, so I'm sure it's cheaper in the States
