  1. Did you have a bad cold and coughing a lot lately? I knew a young lady who had whooping cough and fractured a couple ribs.

Also could be sports/exercise related, playing any pick-up football or golf lately?

  2. LOL, that's some pretty impressive custom hardware. The thing that would keep me from considering it is the big mess it would made trying to open it up and replace/upgrade components.

The article mentions the Reactor is meant to be a closed box system like Apple's, so does that mean it's for gamers with a lot of money but don't know how to build their own system?

The other benefit is how quiet their machines will be, but again, spilling oil all over the place trying to fix some hardware that goes kaput is a definite drawback for me.

  3. I've got all 3 Halo games on Xbox/360 and Halo 1&2 on PC so I guess you can call me a Halo fan.

So news that Bungie wasn't working on Halo 4 made me worried about a drop in quality of the franchise, but news of Halo Recon was fantastic.

I am disappointed to hear Serellan isn't working on this title - obviously a perfect match with his background and previous work. I guess that means whatever he is working must be REALLY awesome :shifty:

  4. Honestly, the announcement got a big yawn out of me.

Looks like more of Ubi morphing the Clancy games into types of games that players are not asking for.

I'm all for taking a great game and building upon it with improved features and gameplay etc. for next-gen hardware (like what Japanese game designers do - think MGS, Zelda, Mario etc), but what the game designers at Ubi are doing is taking franchises and morphing them into significantly different directions than the original games they are based on.

Did they do some kind of poll to find out this is what fans want? Or are the game designers just kind of let loose to just implement whatever they think is cool? It just seems to me that design decisions follow whatever the latest trend is (i.e. hoping to rake in the cash like WoW) rather than being real artistic choices.

I think one of the main reasons is due to Ubi's system of multiple teams work on each franchise so there is no one singular vision or person driving the design decisions - just whatever will bring in the most cash in the short-term.

I'm pretty doubtful about the whole thing, but kudos to them if the new directions make them a lot of money and increase the fan base. Only time will tell.

  5. Hey Nutlink, thanks for the info. I actually don't know anyone personally who has anything faster than dual 8800's, so it's good to know.

The ATI 4870's are actually not priced that high, so it's tempting to upgrade, but I have no games that I'm playing now that make me feel I need an upgrade :P

  6. im working on a jungle storm ps2 to pc port. im not sure when i'll finish

Hey shakealeg, kudos to you for trying to port the PS2 maps over to GR1. A lot of fans have dreamed about it but never thought it was possible.

What I'd suggest is just try to complete one map at a time. If you can even get us one Jungle Storm map, that would be really impressive.

  7. LOL, glad it was as simple as that. I should have realized it was your onboard sound, since all current mobos come with "HD audio", but for some reason I thought it was a Creative thing.

Yes, it's important to turn off any onboard video/audio in the BIOS if you are using a discrete graphics/audio card.

Your onboard audio driver was probably installed with your motherboard drivers before you installed SP3, so it didn't pop up then.

  8. Hmm, I have a Audigy on a ASUS mobo with XP updated to SP3 and no probs.

Does your Audigy have a Firewire input? Is the driver for that installed?

I would suggest in Device Manager, let Windows automatically search for the driver on the internet. I've found this actually works quite well, or that the driver eventually shows up in your Windows update

Honestly, if you find your computer is working fine without that driver, then I'd just ignore it for now. My Q6600 with Vista has some "SM Bus Controller" not installed, and my computer does everything I want it to do so I've just left it.

  9. Well, Georgian and Russian leaders could learn something from these two athletes at the Olympics

    http://www.cnn.com/2008/WORLD/asiapcf/08/10/olympic.embrace/

Russia's Natalia Paderina and Georgia's Nino Salukvadze hugged after winning Olympic silver and bronze medals, respectively, in the women's 10-meter air pistol competition.

"If the world were to draw any lessons from what I did, there would never be any wars," Salukvadze, 39, said afterward, according to media reports. The reports described the two as friends.

BTW, the Russian competitor is a soldier in the Russian army

  10. Funny thing - I tried installing a new 80 GB HD on one of my old PCs that is now my sister-in-laws this week, and it wold not recognise it. Back when I bought that PS the biggest HD that came in consumer PCs was a 6.4 Gb, so maybe older bios's don't recognise todays bigger drives?

Yep, some older BIOS/mobos can't recognize a HD larger than 32GB. Try googling around to look for a solution, but if the mobo is really old (Pentium 1 system) you may be out of luck. However, anything Pentium 2/3 and above should really be fine

The easiest way to see how old your HD is is to look on the HD itself - it should have the manufacturing date.

A hard drive older than 5-7 years old is a bit risky to use - i.e. risk of failing. Saying that, I am still supporting some systems with HD's that are likely 10 years old

DP, if you are really having that much trouble, try to find a friend locally that knows about computers and can guide you. Help over forums like this can never beat someone physically present who knows what he's doing.

  11. just posting if anything changed:

    305467299.png

k, don't know what this means...could someone interpret for me pls...k...thanks

Doesn't look like anything's changed. Your download speed is still about 1300 kilobits/sec (or 1.3 Megabits/s). This will vary by a few kbps everytime you do the test.

In my area, I was paying for 1.5 Mbps for an ADSL connection but they just boosted it to 3Mbps without increasing the price as all the cable subscribers were getting 3Mbps for the last 2 years

Wow Pave, must be nice to get 20 Mbps download ...

  12. I got mine in Ikea recently after a long time looking. I was initially after a corner desk as well but started to find the more I looked that they would take up far more room than a normal desk of the right size for my room/ corner.

Hey Klean, great setup you have there! I like how you have your Xbox 1 and 360 side by side. Do you play them on your computer monitor and if so do you use some sort of switch? What games are you still using your old Xbox for? Also nice pink wireless 360 controller

Yep, Ikea rocks. I got a Goliat corner desk a couple years ago and they are now out of production. Personally, I like a desk with an upper shelf to put stuff (printer, speakers, etc.) Only drawback is it didn't come with a keyboard tray

Here's an image of what my Goliat desk looks like (from Craig's list). I modded it a bit (removed some of the extra shelves for CD storage etc)

  13. I can't say the same in regards to the support of the community and this is demonstrated by this very same thread. In fact I asked help to beta-test the version 1.1 in January (nearly 7 months ago) and I got no answer at all.

I really must apologize that I haven't tested your mod the way I wanted to. It is an incredible piece of work and I totally salute your dedication to an ideal to use SOAF in a way that does not compromise legal issues. This perserverence in producing this mod and your dedication to the community will not go unnoticed.
