  1. I was playing around with the numbers in the M82barrett.gun file, imagine that, trying to see if I boost it's knockdown power. I know that IRL the slower a round travels, I.E. 900 fps for a .45, the more kenetic energy it delievers on impact. Which in turn relates to a weapons knockdown power. My question is does a person want to lower or raise the velocity numbers in this file to achieve this effect? Am I even in the right area given how Red Storm has set up the game? On another note, I was talking with Stalker_Zero last night giving him some of my other ideas for his community mod.
  2. I have two systems in my house with DSL. My inexpensive approach was to buy a hub. Since I already had access to nics (network cards 3coms as a matter of fact) all I did was hook my modem up to the uplink port on the hub. The pc's are in then in turn (with any patch cable you can buy at any electronic store) connected to the hub. The dial up software, provided by my provider, is installed on both systems. Both pc's can dial out individually. One other thing I do use a firewall program to keep the amatures out, the pro's can get into anything they want, I would advise the same. Also D-Li
  3. In looking at another web page that I check out for information, www.military.com, I came across this little tidbit of information. It looks like one more step has been taken in preparation to war. The following comes from the above mentioned website. (Hope I am not breaking any forum rules here). U.S. Troops In Northern Iraq United Press International January 29, 2003 WASHINGTON - A small number of U.S. troops have been inserted in northern Iraq, Gen. Richard Myers, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, confirmed Wednesday. Myers declined to specify the number of s
  4. I have to agree with killa on this one as well. Especially if you are sniping. Depending on the map getting that perfect sniping position can be difficult at best. What the diligent sniper has to be careful of is tunnel vision. With a little luck the opposing team can pounce on that. In the grander scheme of things when I play against someone who uses the "camping tactic" exclusively, my step son does this, I find it very challenging to find a point of attack to take him out. The little ######... I feel if I can ferret him out and smoke him I look at him and make a comment like "thoug
  5. In taking part in a few other threads on different posts concerning the potential of the up coming conflict with Iraq, I thought it might be time to remember what history teaches about such things. Several people I have talked to, including those that do not participate on this forum, seem to think that with Saddam we should give him yet one more chance. When I hear this I am struck by the simularities between the Pre-World War II era and September 1939. Prior to the full outbreak of World War II the attitude was appeasement. The world thought that they should give into Hitler, the mania
  6. @the_Slink I had a hard time getting through your post because I haven't quite gotten the knack of running 5 windows on gr.net at the sametime yet. Althought I have gotten good with responding in three different forum threads at once. You know you are playing too much GR when: You replace your windows start up sound with the GR theme song. Your wife tells you dinner is ready and you tell her you have to wait for reinforcements to arrive. Stout Hearts Warhawk
  7. @budgie For the most part, if not all, I have to say well put budgie. Although when it comes to the China and Taiwan situation I don't know if the nuke card would deter the US from interferring. However this thread isn't about that situation although that topic could end up being very interesting. But all in all that was well thought out and well put. @firefly2442 What you are referring to during the Cold War era is MAD or Mutually Assured Destruction. Nuclear weapons then only kept a major covential war from starting becuase it was known that the several Soviet Battle Doctrines
  8. My only real problem with the weapon moddeling has been with the impact effect of weapons like the .308 and the .50 cal. Manicbikerdudes mod is neat to use from time to time but when my wife and I play, we both play as snipers, we have a accuracy contest in co-op mode. When using his modifications to the M82 you shots are not counted because the game thinks you are killing everyone with a gernade launcher. I am currently trying to either find a mod that doesnt do this while keeping realistic effects and/or making one of my own. I won't be satisfied until I see a bad guy get at least knocke
  9. Just wondering Stalker if you were going to add cammo skins to the rifles? I know, I know, "Jesus you don't want much" hehehe just thought I would ask. I too can't wait for your mod but I agree don't rush it either Stout Hearts Warhawk
  10. In terms of a long-term commitment with Iraq I don't think you will have to worry there. (The reason I say I don't think is because I don't have that infamous crystal ball) I believe that not only will Iraq's military fold under any US/UK led invasion but also so will the current Iraqi government. As far as for the grander "war on terrorism", well again the only worry there is if your son decides that the thing for him to do is to defend not only the principles of the United States but the general principle of freedom, by serving in a branch of the US military. For me, having decided w
  11. Where do I begin and not sound like everyone else Ronin. IN######*NG UNBELIEVEABLY INCREDIBLY FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Extremely good work and don't stop! That flash intro is nothing short of GReat. Stout Hearts Warhawk
  12. @Stalker_Zero No actually I haven't. I have only recently been using mods in the game and I just recently started messing around with the weapons. Is what you are talking about available on this site? I looked breifly and didn't find it. @snakebite1967 I have you added on my list I will be looking forward to catching you on MSN. Thanks a bunch
  13. If me memory serves me correctly the only purpose those balloons had was to prevent air attacks. The same idea was used during the Battle of Britian. I can't say for sure, as my memory seems to be failing me in this the wee hour of the morning, but the thought was it would keep the planes at higher altitudes and there by making it harder to hit their targets. As we are well aware during the second world war there was no such thing as smart weapons and carpet bombing was the general rule of thumb. Precision bombing, or low level bomb runs and dive bombing itself, was in it's infant stages a
  14. While the movie isn't directly about special forces what about Clear and Present Danger? Having both read the book, long before the movie came out, and having seen the movie IMO, that the special forces unit in the story closely resembles the group we know and love. Stout Hearts Warhawk
  15. Would you consider sharing? Stout Hearts Warhawk
  16. Here is my two cents on the subject of a hypothectial first use of a WMD by the current Iraqi regime. No one really, in their right mind, wants to use nukes. Certainately none in the military. It is a well known fact that there are no winners only losers when nukes are used. I can not even begin to think of a good way in which they could be used in a conflict with Iraq. However, it won't just be US forces involved if Iraq is invaded. So there is another dynamic to consider. What of the UK policy on the subject? Additionally, if the US and UK and whoever else decides to side with
  17. @badkarma, On the subject of racial profiling- Kudo's. KUDOS I say. Having the opportunity to serve in the law enforcement field and having a father who was a police officer for several years I can say that you are 100% correct in what you said on this subject. To expand on what you said about Good and Evil I would add, that a person's actions will be defined by another as good or evil based on another's beliefs. Even if you were to take the "God of Christianity" as Fusaki put it, and just go with a basic principle of what constitutes good and evil is "subjective" like you said. What
  18. During the Christmas shopping season I saw a commercial, just once, for Ghost Recon. It appeared to be a cross between in game clips and live actors. Did anyone else see this commercial. Does anyone know if it's avaiable for download? If so where?
  19. I am looking to increase the amount of recoil demonstrated by my M82. The recoil number, in the .gun file, is now at 100. Am I correct in assuming that if I increase this number so will the recoil? Also if I get it done in time and you would like it for your combined weapons mod I will donate my work to that effort 300mag. Of course I want to get cammo on it first and see if I can increase it's impact on enemy soliders... If I don't get it done in time use the idea for your mod. I am sure I am not the only one in love with this sniper rifle/cannon. Before you mention it I tried MaN
  20. @yodasplat for his comments on "Isn't it obvious why he's doing it? To detract from the economic recession". While I may not agree with your assessment of President Bush, I do agree with you that this is about "detracting from the economic recession." As far as President Bush's motives I for one cannot say for certain that he may or may not have other reasons for going after Saddam either (I honestly don't think anyone can), however look at the Iraqi situation this way. If you were a parent, and for those on this forum that are you will understand best what I am talking about, how lon
  21. I have just went over the posts here very briefly. So if I am repeating something someone else has already pointed out then forgive me. But, has everyone forgotten that the problem in Iraq is not only with Irag having WMD's but also it's flaggerent violation of every UN Resolution since 1991? It was if I recall correctly a UN Resolution that called for the cease fire and again if I am not mistaken it was this same resolution that made the cease fire contengient on Iraq following the mandates from the UN. They agreed at first to abide by the terms of the UN Security Council then went about
  22. Having looked over ruin's tute on ghillie suits I wanted to see if I was on the right track here. I am trying to make cammo for the M82, believe it or not I am in love with the thing, In order to accomplish this am I going to have to edit or otherwise copy and alter the iw_srifle_m82.qob file? If so what program or programs can be used to do so? I am hoping it's one I already have. But knowing my luck with Murphy's Law well you know.... Anyway any help anyone can give I would greatly appreciate it. Stout Hearts Warhawk
  23. Thanks for the reply Ruin. If it's not too much trouble could you post the more indepth tute? Also since I am new to this stuff is there a tute on modding? I have to agree the work you did with the invisible sniper mod was tremendous. Thanks again. Stout Hearts Warhawk
  24. Ok ruin I have come to the exciting conclusion that, in the words of others, "I am not worthy, I am not worthy". Is it possible to add cammo to the other sniper rifles? I have made serveral attempts at modifing the M82, call me misquided but I love that rifle, and have yet to succeed. I am not asking for you to do it for me but if it is not possible then I will stop spinning my wheels and feeling stupid. However if it is possible then I will go back to feeling stupid and continue trying. By the way I just got IT and it rocks almost as much as your invisible sniper mod. Stout Hearts Wa
