  1. Man you lot make life difficult ;)

Built into XP is a wonderful little utility called File and Settings Transfer Wizard.

It's under Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools

Just run the wizard and say it's your OLD computer, then select which files you want to include (great thing is you can include Outlook.pst, favourites, desktop everything. The only thing it wont do is transfer the actual programs ie Office, Games etc though it does transfer the settings).

Once it has completed you have a SINGLE file in a folder you chose that is basically a backup of all your settings.

Then install the new HD, install XP, install any progs you want, then run the wizard again but this time tell it this is your NEW Computer, follow the wizard, direct it towards the directory you saved the file in and set it off.

Once it's finished, reboot and viola, all your stuff is the same as before ;)

  2. ya pretty hard for them to get it all right AND all wrong for the same person

    Hmmmm drifts into dream sequence

Vox*BDA* sitting at his PC alone

 "Just click the damn icon"

0:) "No, you know I don't like it"

 "Just do it you damn ###### I need to kill something"

0:) "You know that really is a bad attitude"

 "I'll show you a bad attitude in a minute"

"Careful of our blood pressure, have we taken our tablets today?"

"Aaargh, just start the damn game, you know you love it"

    "No"

    "Yes"

    "NO"

    "Yes"

    Gah, damn Icon limit :(

  3. The thing about AA is that it's going to be as far removed from [GR] as GR:AW is.

The thing wrong with it from my point of view is it's just TOO big. Vehicles, miles of landscape that will take an age to cover unless you get a lift or drive yourself.

I know thats what some people want but tbh some people moan [GR] was too big, ages spent covering ground between objectives etc, personally i felt, size wise it was just about right. My main hope is that AA will have smaller mods made that allow large open spaces but small enough not to need vehicles.

  4. Since you are fairly new to GR.net, you don't know that the only reason I even bought a computer was to play Rainbow Six even though it was 2 years old and Rogue Spear was coming out. It got even better with the release of Rogue Spear and it's expansions. Then came Ghost Recon. I don't play any other FPS games, not HL, not UT, not Doom or even Quake. Yet now, I am faced with game franchises that mimics the games I do not play. They could make movies based on the original games and keep the games as they were, but Ubi wants more money plain and simple and changing the face of the games is how they plan on doing it.

They don't care that people still play Rainbow Six some 8 years after it was first released nor do they care if we still play GR almost 5 years after it was first released. They want a game that people will buy and play for a few months and then toss it away (this is what has happened with the designe of Lockdown) and then buy the next game in the franchise the following year even if it stinks from the original premise of the franchise. Making the games more movie like will be the death of franchises that some of us love dearly.

Amen that man, a sad indictment on the corporate mentality overshadowing what was once a creative and inovative industry.

The idea of what players actually want has been overshadowed by the holy dollar :(

  5. not to get off topic but to generalize, why the hell do game development companies ALWAYS screw up big titles?

it would be logical for me to keep a title and it's content the same but just advance the graphics and add maybe more content.

I think on the other hand and I'll use RSE as an example is that RSE's team that developed ghost recon left the company and the new team comes in changing things trying to be a hero and make a name for themselves always jack games up because they take a perfectly good title and want to add thier own twist [GR]->GRAW and it loses it's fanbase. the people who like GRAW seem by appearances to be a new crowd.

us old GR guys/gals are left hanging because GRAW is trying to reach back and get [GR] into GRAW. So it would appear to [GR] fans that GRAW is a lesser version of the GR2 scenario in just that GRAW materialized. so for an old GR fan like myself I still haven't gotten what I wanted.

New crowd? I'm as old as dirt in GR1 years.. (since the demo)

Currently those who like it are the one's that like TDM and team vs team games.

Those that don't are old timer co-opers.

I agree with you 100% ROCOAFZ.

The unfortunate thing is that it is the Old time Co-op players that have kept the GR franchise alive for 5 years. The TvT and TDM side died a while ago in GR but the Co-op was still keeping the name alive yet it's us that got shafted ;)

  6. I'm I reading this junk right or what? You can not play any SP modes like you could in GR without going through all this :bs: ? No team AI to back you up either.

do you want me to come over to your house and double click the game icon aswell? seriously, that you press "multiplayer" instead of "singleplayer" when playing firefight sets you off?, give me a break.

Willie, you have to understand that YOU, ie GRIN called it [GR] Firefight etc and in [GR] you could play any mode with AI backup.

I think his point is that you can't have AI in the GR:AW version.

  7. I love all these Glass half full analogies etc but they are slightly misleading.

More accurately (and this is purely from my point of view) it went something like this.

Hey here's a glass... Yeah I know it's only half full but by the time you have drunk that half we will have filled the other half so it will basically be like you had a full one.

Kewl I think and start to sip.

After playing through the SP (which I don't really enjoy) and getting bored of the 4 player Co-op with it's miriad problems I start looking at my quarter full glass and getting worried as no more has been poured in yet.

After not playing the game for quite a while I look at my glass and find that evaporation has left me with just a few drops in the bottom which are rapidly drying.

Finally as the last puff of steam rises from the now dry recepticle the 1.30 patch is released.

Rushing to my glass I lift it to drink deeply of the refreshing brew only to find that it is empty.

I am still left with only 4 player Mission based Co-op and people maybe... possibly... being able to cobble together some form of objectives for the Recon or Firefight modes.

And others saying that, even after all this time, if we wait just a little bit longer, and pray and wish hard enough we just might still get what we hoped for.

And before people jump onboard without thinking this is Multiplayer Mission based Co-op with more than 4 players i'm talking about here.

  8. I'm I reading this junk right or what? You can not play any SP modes like you could in GR without going through all this :bs: ? No team AI to back you up either.

    Basically yes.

    You have two options,

1: Play [GR] (and I use the term lightly ;)) Firefight or Recon online and you can either play it by joining an existing server and playing with other people as your teammates or hosting your own.

2: Play [GR] (as above) Firefight or Recon by creating your own Lan server and playing it alone.

Either way you cannot have AI backup.

  9. I like the new features, they are great. Hopefully, people will build some terrific [GR] coop maps.

What about building new SP and/or coop missions or campaigns? The best part of GR was the modded missions produced from Igor. I don't see anything in the patch like that. I may be wrong.

Kurtz (and I will state this now so there is NO chance of it being misread, YES I am amazed at your total lack of understanding) did you actually read ANY of the previous posts ??????

This WHOLE thread is about the blo0dy Modded Co-op missions like those produced from IGOR and the lack of them in GR:AW.

Gah! Truly... I give up :wall:

Wow, ever since Bo posted this thread went right down the crapper LOL!

You know the reason for that?

Because basically if you look at the whole thread then his post is the most distrespectful of the lot. Up till that point a decent, flame free discussion was taking place. Then a CEO of a company steps in and starts throwing TROLL comments around because people are stating an opinion he doesn't like.

On the other hand, of course, I'm sure if someone was calling -you- a liar, you wouldn't consider that post particularly disrespectful and you'd naturally respond with kindness and graciousness... If you're going to hate, at least don't let it be blind hate. He was attacked first. Whether you consider it justified or not is another question, but let's not play like no one was disrespectful to him.

Then as a mature adult he should have contacted an admin or the person directly and not post a reply calling people TROLLS.

Dai San little friend I just said "We love you trolls" no disrespect in that.

Bo my little bud, unfortunately that was not your only words otherwise it would not be an issue.

You started your post off with.

    Buhuuu
Implying people are crying or whining.

    Then went on with.

But now that ZeroAlpha feed the trolls I guess we need to do it a bit different.
Which implies that people replying to his post in an positive manner are Trolls.

You may want to read this definition of Troll before you say there is no disrespect intended too my friend.

    Wikipedia definition:

In Internet terminology, a troll is someone who comes into an established community such as an online discussion forum, and posts inflammatory, rude, repetitive or offensive messages designed intentionally to annoy or antagonize the existing members or disrupt the flow of discussion, including the personal attack of calling others trolls. Often, trolls assume multiple aliases, or sock puppets.

  11. I think another beef was that in [GR] missions could be server side only if no new content (objects)was used in the scripting and in GRAW this is not the case. Meaning that the coop turnys will have to release the mission files for download prior to the turny giving players a chance to try and run through it.

For Tournament play that would not be a big issue as the missions were released at the last minute anyway so that they could not be practiced by teams beforehand.

For anyone wanting to run a public Co-op server this could be a problem because as you say, on serverside missions you could just upload the new script and no download was needed.

For those unsure. Using the [GR] editor you could script missions and as long as you only used the original files (ie skins, vehicles, models etc) you could then just upload the actual mission parameters to the server and it would become available for anyone to play without downloading anything.

  12. Basically yes m8.

The commonly held opinion of Co-op in [GR] was that it was objective or mission based. The Co-op tournaments were specific missions written by scripters and played and scored by the tournament runner.

Recon and Firefight modes were basically a warmup and fun gametype.

Any other MP mode was basically Adversarial ie against 'Real' people rather than AI or objectives.

As i said before. With clever scripting...setting up a mission coop would be possible.

What kind of missions do you want and i can tell ya if it might be possible since ive played around with the scripting a bit with the Beta.

Ok, in it's most basic form a typical [GR] Co-op mission would go something like this.

Hmm see this is so hard because as [GR] was written for this gametype even before the mission started you had the briefing screen which allowed you to best choose the equipment needed to complete and get an idea of what you faced.

    Anyway, I digress.

    Team Inserts.

Procedes to mission objective/objectives (dealing with or avoiding enemy AI along the way.

Attempts to complete the objective/objectives (Demo'ing something/destroying armour/retrieving intel etc).

Team procedes to extract (dealing with or avoiding enemy AI along the way.

That is it in it's most basic form, and with more than 4 players please ;)

Man i really think i could pull something like that off with the next patch. Maybe like a small briefing in the start screen (where everyone waits to ready up) and have different objectives to complete. Im not that good with scripting but i think even i could pull off some basic stuff. With the good modders around here im willing to bet we see some impressive co-op maps...and yes im talking about more than 4 players. I had many PM's back and fourth with Grin_Evert while i was learning some of the scripting and i came a long way in a matter of a few days. Imagine what someone who really knows how scripting works could do.

If that is the case then you will make a Lot of Co-op players and clans happy my friend.

If there is a workaround using the Recon mode then that's great but I fail to understand why that wasn't released as the Co-op mode

I'm still cornfused  When you [GR] guys say "coop" do you mean campaign style coop only and NOT Recon & FF? This may sound dumb, but do you consider "Recon" as "Recon," "FF" as "FF", and "Coop" as "Coop"?

    Basically yes m8.

Co-op Mission mode is still stuck at 4 unfortunately.

This last one is the real killer for [GR] Co-op players as we wanted at least the [GR] number of 9 (preferably more) for good old Co-op tournament play ala Stealth Recon etc.

I don't get it (nothing new there)! You [GR] guys are talking about coop with the original SP objective-based missions, correct? IF SO, am I the only one that thinks the original SP missions would be too easy with > 6 (really, 4 is sufficient) people? A while back didn't people post in these forums how they defeated every coop mission using pistols only?

If objective based coop missions can be created (Recon w/ objectives) that allow for >4 people, isn't THAT problem solved?

If Objectives are added to the Recon mode then that then becomes the Mission based mode which is stuck at 4 player.

If there is a workaround using the Recon mode then that's great but I fail to understand why that wasn't released as the Co-op mode

  17. The obstacles to old style coop were the mission leader issue (supposedly solved), SADS ( supposedly included) and 4 man coop. What is the status of the last issue, can you or not increase the number of team members? This is a major issue for coop clans.

Co-op Firefight mode has increased player numbers from 4.

Co-op Recon mode has increased player numbers from 4.

Co-op Mission mode is still stuck at 4 unfortunately.

This last one is the real killer for [GR] Co-op players as we wanted at least the [GR] number of 9 (preferably more) for good old Co-op tournament play ala Stealth Recon etc.

  18. Zero, you have nothing to apologise for, you were given information (from the horses mouth) that was false, plain and simple. As our representatives you were honour bound to pass on said information which you and Colin did to everyones delight.

It was purely my own cynicism (25+ years in the computer/software industry) that lead me to doubt the Co-op claims once the beta came out.

Unfortunately I was right (believe me you have no idea how much I wish it was the other way around too).

My main feeling (as I explained on the phone) is not the disappointment at not having the 'Next Generation' Ghost Recon game, but anger at being lied too on so many occassions.

I am a great believer in the ethos that if you don't know something err on the side of caution. Don't just agree with people to make them happy. Example "More than 4 players in Mission based Co-op?"...."Yeah, no problem, easy"

From the evidence I have seen GRIN have NEVER played [GR] Co-op as WE the GR community play it. (Now i'm NOT going to explain [GR] Co-op to people again, I have done this in several posts and am SICK of doing it but I honestly do believe the likes of TOW-Angel need to find the posts and read em cos her version of Co-op and ours are way different). For the record 4 players in mission based co-op is of NO use to us.

It is a shame on many fronts. Many teams have been in stasis awaiting this magic Co-op GR:AW to appear and have been let down bigtime. Hopefully they can pick up the pieces and return to [GR] with the members they have or move on to another game.

Others have already accepted GR:AW for what it is and still enjoy [GR] with very active servers and a good range of people playing. (Seeya there Buehgler ;))

Tbh i'm just going over old ground here and just wanted to reaffirm, in public. Not your fault Zero and Colin, you ran with what you were given.
