True but GRAW is coming very close to a great if not even perfect military simulation. However the positive aspect between reality and this is, in GRAW you won't physically die if you get shotBut (and I hope you take no offence) tbh if you want to feel like a real soldier then frankly GR:AW or ANY other GAME is not gonna cut it no matter how many bells and whistles you add.
- but you'll get an adrenaline burst if the experience is intense and believable enough!
I must admit, we're going to go round and round in circles because I actually disagree with both of you above points (well not actually the points but your basic standpoint)
From what I've seen and heard, no matter how fantastic a job GRIN have done this is still Far from being a perfect or nearly perfect Military Simulation (this is not a reflection on GRIN just a fact of technology, I think GRIN have done a great job). Infact the very term Military Simulation should not be applied to this Game.
You want a Military Simulation then the best your gonna get atm is VBS.
I also get an adreneline rush from Quake 4 etc but I really don't find it believable

To sum it all up:
No offense Dai-San, but if you wanna feel yourself in a game like a real soldier, then you'll also have to live with some of the disadvantages of a real soldier which means, if you don't see the enemy before he sees you then you're as good as dead. You have to be aware of your environment and communicate with your team members who also have to be aware of their environment or you're dead before you'll even know it. To quote Christian Allen: "The team that communicates on the battlefield is the team that wins!" (Geez, that's gotta be one of most perfect explanations I ever heard about combat!
)No offence taken my friend, i'm old enough and ugly enough to take forums with a pinch of salt.
But (and I hope you take no offence) tbh if you want to feel like a real soldier then frankly GR:AW or ANY other GAME is not gonna cut it no matter how many bells and whistles you add.

I have no idea how it crept in here but OTS view was not part of the discussion.
The two views described were FPV (As in [GR], no body, no weapon, just a crosshair) and FPWV (First person Weapon View, as in most FPS's UT, Quake etc, you see your weapon and a crosshair).
Let's keep OTS (Over the shoulder) view out of it, it's finished, not in the game.
Back on track, personally I fail to see the actual advantage of a 'Free look' function but I do see one disadvantage.
Picture this,
Your proceding down a street say and you 'Free Look' to the right and see a Tango pop up from behind cover and raise his weapon.
What you gonna do?
You have to exit 'Free Look' then once back in normal FPWV turn to engage the target with your weapon now active. I'm sorry but your already dead if you have to go through that.
Now before people start screaming realism, yadda yadda, until games can offer Peripheral Vision then compromises will always have to be made and a 'Free Look' function may be fine for Flight Sims but not GR:AW

I say No.3
It's a trick, he dressed up as a woman for the photo shoot (or mebbe he just like's the feel of nylon

Looks great, cant wait. Only problem I see besides the game itself is the much hated copyprotection Ubisoft is going to use on this. I have experienced StarForce problems myself so I'm not lookin forward to installing another game with StarForce
But that isn't GRIN's problem. Great work
Anyone else think with all these GRIN devs here that they are done?

EDIT: Conserning mods, anyone gonna do a totalt GR1 conversion? That would be great!
I'm a bit worried too. I have never had a problem with Starforce until Lockdown. Suddenly I was experiencing random BSOD's not just in Lockdown but in general.
Took me a while to trace the problem but removed the SF drivers 3 weeks ago and my system has been stable since, not one BSOD.

WHY????????
Tom Cruise has a movie coming out in may, he answers all types of questions about the movies, trailors come out, so we get excited about movies. I do not see what the big deal if he answers some questions about MP.
Example.
Bo, is there going to be 32 or 64 players on a map.
Bo: Answer, there will be 32.
Wow, I really dont think other game companies are going to want to "copy" that and incorporate in their games and releash it before GRAW comes out.
My question is WHY can't you read the very first post. Let me make it simple for you.
A full report will follow in due course and as expected they cannot answer any questions in the meantime, no matter how much they would like to.Sheesh

3 good examples of in game physics.
The first one employs the Ageia PhysX card Ageia Movie
The second two are NVidia's own Physics on GPU Movies NVidia

you know, parachuting IS something that special forces do.
Besides, it's probably a one time insertion in the SP campaign...
Lol, Lying on icy ground so long your clothes actually freeze to it and having to pee on your hands to make em work is something 'they' do but it don't mean I wanna have to do that in the game m8

-
As long as it's a one off insertion then thats fine, in BF2 you can use a chute on anything high enough to jump off, man it sux

TBH I don't care what they put in SP as I'll never get past the first mission, once I learn the keys etc it's off to MP for me

-
I'm probably gonna get flamed something rotten for this but tbh I hope the Parachute never makes it into the game.
It's starting to sound more and more like BF2 every minute and I for one would rather it stay more tactical and not have people dropping in from all angles and doing the stupid crap they pull in BF2.

Take a chill pill capteenix, your not gonna get much support from the majority of people here with that attitude

Hi Col,
If
we get someone to ask questions I would like to know the following.1: I would like confirmation (not some "Yes we are aware of it" answer) of the number of players in MP Co-op (How many RL teammates on my team against the AI in a mission scenario)
2: Admin capabilities for Dedicated servers (Rcon type control etc)
3: CrossCom usefulness in Co-op, Can you set teammates waypoints? Can you issue teammate commands? (Teammates = RL players on your team)

Unfortunately not m8 as long as they keep making you guy's use that horrible controller.
It's a physical impossibility to make the movement as fluid or accurate as a mouse with a thumb stick. Not a limitation of the XBOX 360 just the control method.
Microsoft decided long ago NOT to allow keyboard/mouse support for game control in the XBox360 because it unbalances gameplay in multi-player between those that have keyboard/mouse and those who don't.
--Logos
I realise the why m8 just answering his question

-
I miss the fluid controls, and look, of [GR] and GRIT. Will we ever get those controls with PC quality graphics?
What do you guys think?
and again, congrats on the stellar looking screens!!!!

Ok here's one for the techies.
Bearing in mind Bo's comments in the screenshot thread regarding 512mb gfx cards etc i'm in a bit of a quandry as to my upgrade.
Before anyone starts suggesting them I have nothing against ATI but I want to stay with Nvidia.
I can get a Gainward BLISS GeForce 7800 GT "Goes Like Hell" 512MB GDDR3 VIVO TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express)
Or any 7900 GT 256mb for about the same price.
Any suggestions.
@ Bo, any suggestions would be most appreciated m8 as I want to order this today (no pressure)

-
Looks good!
Bo, I thought the 7900GTX and X1900XTX would be the last directx 9 cards?
Are you telling me they gonna expand the memory structures on these cards?
And is HDR being used in combination with AA. Because Nvidia cards can't do AA and HDR simultanousley (help, my Englsih spelling going overboard, lol).
So, that leaves ATI as the only wise choice if we want max settings at the best framerates. And Nvidia if we want the highest fps?
E3 has some announcements? Why wasn't there any talk about newer cards on the Cebit?
Cheers
Yes the 7900GTX and X1900XTX are the last "high-end" directx9 cards. DX10 cards will come around Q3-Q4 this year, even with Vista being pushed to January 2007. Bo said you will be able to run on high (texture) settings if you have a 512MB card.
No idea what type of HDR is used in GRAW. There are types of HDR where EVERY PS2.0 card supports HDR+AA, and others where only ATI supports HDR+AA (Serious Sam 2). However, if they used the same type of HDR like in ES4-Oblivion, then NO card will use HDR+AA, unlikely because the new screenshots have clearly AA enabled.
The game will be at the E3, Ageia will be there, Ubi will be there, so that should be pretty much a given.

aye, stating that Nvidia cards can't do HDR + AA is slightly misleading as explained here but certainly performance wise the ATI will handle it better.
I have to demystify a myth also. Team red claims that Series 7 can't handle both HDR and antialiasing at the same time. That's only partly true, NVIDIA's Series 7 product can do so for sure yet they use another method. Here's the issue, G7x hardware does not support multisample antialiasing with fp16 render targets. The G7x series however can support AA with HDR through a variety of other methods, including supersampling and application specific implementation. Now in more simple terms, NVIDIA does support multisampling with HDR when HDR is handled by shaders (and not by floating point 16 buffer). Some games examples that already do this are Far Cry, HL2 and my favorite game, Age of Empires.

Great pics Bo.
Seeing as the noose has loosened a bit could you give us poor saps some kind of idea what would be a good, midrange gfx card that could be SLI'd or Xfire'd in the future to get decent FPS at decent eyecandy settings.
I'm not asking you to recommend a manufacturer just a range, 7600, 7800, 7900, x1900 etc.
I'm looking to upgrade the 6600gt SLI rig and GR:AW is the main game and you know the specs

A gentle nudge in the right direction would be appreciated by a lot of people I think m8

Just wondering about it. It's probably gotta do with UBI's fiscal year and the financial figures. But, wouldn't a release in the winter be the smart thing to do. As it's cold outside and people tend to stay inside and play games. Just wondering, am I the only one who thinks that a winter release is better in terms of drawing a big following. I was addicted at BF2 for awhile, it was fresh and had good mp. But over at the fan forums, over 25000 members they are all hyping the quake wars as the next best online game. Not one of them is aware of this gem called GRAW. I surely hope it recieves a warm and big following. Sigh, still two months to wait.
Cheers
are you some kind of crazy?
Tax return money is here and waiting...
E3 will hype it up
people are not in "summer mode" yet - not warm enough to go to the beach
releasing the PC version now sets Christmas 06 up perfectly for expansion pack 1.
and if it is delayed till Christmas this year, I will hunt you down as it was your idea.

Cobblers m8
Lol, just noticed, I didn't mean that offensively

-
Co-op who cares, missions are available on the cosoles so go buy one. We have waited for 4 years for a new generation replacement-get er done.
I think you may have registered on the wrong site my friend. There are MANY here who do

-
RatoN, you can keep posting m8 but I think you are living in some sort of dreamworld to think that just because YOU think a visit is required then GRIN must comply.
And as Colin said, you think that the person (oops, now it's personS) would have free reign to just try anything they wanted and come back and tell all.
Even if another visit was to happen your Eutopian vison would turn out like this.
US: So....what's it like then?
Visitor: Nice.
US: Hmmm.... So what's the MP like? Is the AI good?
Visitor: I can't comment on that.
US: Ok... What's the XXXXXX like then?
Visitor: I can't tell you that.
Ad Infinitum.
Personally I would prefer to see some video footage, some loosening on BO so he could give some more information and eventually a demo.
You say seeing video would just tease us to death. Personally knowing that some people have had the opportunity to go and play the game and STILL not be able to tell us anything would tease me more.

Any chance of a relapse around about the time of the GRIN vs GRNET match ?
If so I hope you get well soon m8.
If not then I hope you stay ill till after then

I am getting GRAW for clan matches and their won't be "things you can't use" in matches, its all out war.
I must say, I don't think i've ever played in a tournament/ladder that has used a game 'Vanilla' ie straight out of the box, and thats a lot of different games over the years. I think you will find most match organisers will take out ANY option that gives advantages to any team or individual.
Which leads me nicely on to my next point.
Also, things like indicators on the hud for allies and enemies should be player side, not server controlled.I gotta disagree with you on this point. Player side options should only include things which have NO impact on gameplay. Threat indicators fall heavily into this catagory. If you want to turn on or off your ammo counter fine, this will not give you an advantage over another player but having your threat indicator on will. "Well it's his choice" you might say. True but it will force that player into assuming that 'Everyone' has it turned on and so he HAS to turn it on to be competative.
As for Filters in the server browser, this is a standard feature and would be a MAJOR flaw if not included from the start (BF2 anyone

Personally the combination of my N52 and MX1000 is gaming heaven

From what I have read etc BornToKill is bang on the money.
Because the AI is dynamic and actually makes decisions based on what is happening, what it's heard/seen/plans then quick saving becomes an impossibility. It's easy enough to do when enemy actions are scripted or confined by a few set behaviors/conditions but not when they make active decisions on what has happened previously.
