I would say that the version that was shown is early to middle stage. Plenty of time for improvment and changes.
They will have had an awful lot of feed back over the last couple of days.
Agreed, right now I feel like the dev team is going in the right direction VS GR2. The bloom effect doesnt bother me too much, Im all for exagerting reality to create eye candy or even more of a challenge, but I would hate to see a huge disadvantage simply because of going to cover where there is shade. I just cant imagine any real combat situation where someone says no, dont go there, too much shade, the bloom effect will kill you.
I don't see why MP coop cannot support 16 players.I can imagine its for good technical reasons. All I can truly ask for is that the devs keep in mind that this should be an area to be patch , even if its in a few year when more computers can handle the engine and more players. Or maybe an unofficial patch that caters to the good systems
(8-12 man team would be ideal) -

Then, while standing in the shadows, if you turn around and look out across a sunlit plaza, the light is absolutely intense -- sometimes obscuring figures in the distance.
How advanced can this getup be if they forget to install the Blue Blockers?

I would gladly trade a map editor for a mission editor anyday. Are the days gone where a server sided mission can be made?

ok they look nice but for goodness sake, HDR is not suppost to look like Acid trip Bloom. "real" HDR is subtle in all but the most extreme cases.
If i wanted my games to look like a drug trip, id take drugs.
I would say the screens look "awsome" but i cant see half of them since there washed out in HDR.
edit:
P.S.
I have only seen "bloom" like this once in my life. I was working in very low light, and a coworked opened the door to go outside on a very bright day. past the door a bit away there was a white 20 foot tall wall. This really "kicked" up the light going through the door, and they appeared to be swallowed by a bright white "bloom".
hense extreme case.
I may be alone or with many but this fantasy use of HDR is annoying, in a realistic game.
I like the screens, I really cant complain about anything. As far as the bloom, I assume thats the bright light effect, I find it pretty annoying too but I suspect that bloom is occuring because of some type of explosion? There is a previous shot where the player is heading to some dark area where that bloom effect is not present, but if the moment he hits a dark spot and that effect turns on, I definetly would not like it.

Since we are going to have medic packs, I thought I would share what my ideal medi pack situation in a game would be. Imgine your health bar devided into 3 parts. 100 percent is obviosly walking and talking mode, Below 66% would be limp mode, if the health bar went below this, expect very demininshed performance in aiming/walking,below 33% is incapacitaded, you cant walk, talk, only moan and roll on ground in agony. Here is how it would work,
Imagine starting off in a battle with health bar at 100% with bullets are flying, Boom you get hit in the chest! Your health dips 33% but the bullet did not peirce the armor so after staggering from the blow you continue to aim and shoot, the health bar continues to gradually improves in short time as it climbs back to 100%. As the battle continues BOOM, you loose a toe! Your health dropps 33% and You are loosing blood, the healthbar will begine to fall at a rate of 1% a sec but will first recover most of the 33% from the shock of getting hit first, you call for a medic but he is busy so you continnue on with the fight. You notice that although your health bar is still strong, the pain in your big toe is slowly making it harder to consintrate and to aim as perfectly as you could when the battle started. Boom, You loose another toe!!! This time it the little piggy that went wee wee all the way home!,now you are loosing blood at a faster rate, 2% per sec, but there is nothing else to do but continue the fight. Your health drops below 66% when suddly again BOOM, you get hit in the chest, bullet did not pierce the armor again (very lucky) but instead of staggering, you fall straight on your ass, recovering is a lil more taxing and as you slowly rise BOOM, this time you get shot in the chest, this bullet peirces the armor. You fall down, bleeding out health bar dropping at 3% sec, all you can do as you see the health never recovesr from 33% is to watch it drop and to call for a medic. You can see pats of the battle as you roll on the ground in agony as your vision starts to blur. Only two ways this can end, a medic gets to you, patches what he can giving you 33% of your healthbar back, or you bleed out and die.
The following would not precllude instant death due to head shot, or instant death from high claiber weapons at close range even if its one shot to the leg.
I think this would be cool! I think I would love medi packs if games did this!

Am I the only one here really annoyed with the built in visor sensors? Granted the video I saw was not ingame photage, but the guy yells out somthing like "Lots of tangos , light it up!" and is followed by a visor shot of a guys seeing red targets in a building before they are even a threat.
Gameplay would seem REALLY dumbed down if I or teammates know where the threats are before they are even threats. I also have to ask myself, whats the point in calling out targets if everyone gets a bright red indicator in thier visor?! I dont mind the gadgets, the ammo that goes through walls, or even the medic when compared to this.
Part of GR1's classic feel was that you had to look for targets and constantly scope out the horizon. The red/green indicators seem to go against this in a big way. I sincerly hope this feature has an option for players/servers to turn off for the PC. I also cant see how any realistic technology can distiguish who is freand or foe and paint them accordingly.

Screw a dongle, how fragile/reliable are they really, how much to replace if that sucker busts(never had one)?I'll be happy with a [Thing that should not be spoken of here] or really happy if its set up like HL2 to keep CDs in good condition.
As far as servers, I'm not picky, only important thing for me is to be able to find the server my teammates are playing on easily and that we get a breifing before mission starts.Oh yeah, dont automatically hide full servers like in Close combat, its really frustrating trying to find a server your teammates are on when you dont know its full.

Odd thing to give a fling #@!* about.

Question: When was Igor released? Was it released with the expansion or right off the bat with GR original disk?

QUOTE(EasyCo @ Jul 9 2005, 05:05 PM)
I'm gonna find out more information about the game first. I have enough FPS games already. This one has to set its self apart from the norm these days. I am happy with the devlopment so far though.
Being realistic here, Im getting it. dispite the complaints, the obvious direction change Red Storm has taken, and the valid worries on how this game is gonna turn out, it'll prob still be one of the better squad based tactical shooters available.
That said, it doesnt mean I wont shelve it quickly or give up on FPSs all together shich Im pretty close to doing already. Today, I get that challenging gameplay i desire from flight sims.

Health bars dont bother me. There was a time I used to not purchase a game if I saw there were health bars until I came accross Hidden and Dangerous 2. They too have health bars but youd see that sucker drop in an instant if you play on elite.
What I dont like about health bars is bing able to bring your health from 2% back to 100%, serchihing for medipacs as part of a tactic, and when you get shot 20 times and still have half your helth bar available.
-
Use the special forces weapons, they have a nice red dot, but, good luck with all the armor running around. You don't stand a chance without AT. I do like the 30 shot, one kill approach, such a refreshing change from GR. {sarcasm}
Whatever form GR 3 takes, it will be 100 times better than this rubbish.
Its a fun game. I dont think its fair to compare it to GR. This was always meant to be an arcade game with stratigy involved, while GR was meant to be realistic.
Only downside is for players w/out a clan. Its very hard to get some cooperation out of the public servers.
Two Thumbs up.

Whats funny is that kids also crave realism. The one's who yell at the top of thier lungs, calling for more run and gun, just dont know it yet. Its the realism and challenging gameplay that contributes to the addictive quality of older Red Storm games.
Ok, ok, back on topic
. I'll star with the absolutly obvious stuff I want to see. _Open maps
_Non linear game play
_Mission/map editor
_a harsh penalty for run and gun style game play(good ballistics).
The not so obvious, all geared mostly tword MPcoop mode.
_GR1 style lobby, everyone joins up, reads a breifing, readys up or gets luanched into game by timer. Far too many new games like RvS, Swat 4, and other that dont come to mind just now, allow modders to creat new maps, but do nothing to include briefings or various objectives to immerse the players into the game. Instead, its usually a nice new map, with a simple objective, KILL ALL, no intel whatso ever.
_AI suported by scripting. GR1 was amazing because you could leash, or script the AI to do whatever you want. when the player antagonized the AI at any point, his own AI took over.
_ability to use stealth. If prone, AI spotting distance = < if crouched, if crouched, AI spotting distance = < if Standing, if running spotting distance x 10

_The way enemy AI in GR was set up was brilliant. squads, plattoons, snipers, all did thier thing. If a squad saw you, the platoon was alerted, if a squad member spots you the squad was alerted. If a squad was taken out quickly, the platoon was oblivious (unless scripted).
_A powerful mission editor like igor please.

UBI's PC gamers make up 15% of the market. Not very much is it? What percentage could it have been if less people had a copied version of the game? 20%? 25%? Well more than enough for UBI to take us more seriously, and then maybe GR2 would have been released on the PC after all.
I did the calculations a while ago, But according to 2003-2004 UBI finacial report, if you include units sold for the PC,MAC,and linux (all computer platforms) Then the PC market acounted close to a third of units sold for GR(30ish%). This is a HUGE chunk of thier profits.
Why they are completely focused on the consol market is because of predictions made that the console market would continue to boom, so much so that it would outsell the PC three times over, not because of how poorly the sale were for the original game.
What is yet to be seen is how well sales for GR2 is doing today. If the console market (x-box)grew 50% then GR2 should sell 50% more units that the original GR to be considered a success considering this is one of UBI's top 3 titles. If not, then IMO, Red Storm/UBI should consider it a failed project, and a step in the wrong direction with respect to how a good game (whatever platform) should be designed.
for a fair assesment, GR2 sould be out for 2 years before comparing sales.

In order of priority,
_Keep the GR1 lobby.
_Igor2.
_Open non linear maps/missions.
_more dynamic rets, Sniper weapon can wobble a lil.
_add more intelligence and variety to the AI. The more they can do the better.
_Give alot of buttons for the host to check or uncheck.
_Keep the game true to the original, the AI should not react unless they have a reason to.(hear you, see you, or see a squad member down, in other words, alow the mission to be played with some type of stealth.) Diff alert levels would be great.
_realistic ballistics, I hope I dont see mself taking half a dozen shots from an AK and still survive.
_more character animations and a better way to view them in igor for scripters to utilize.

"how hard is it to say we are working on GR2 for the pc and it will be better then the xbox version suited for the PC crowd... "
just a quick note.
this was said, its was said alot, but we didnt listen.
in fact i had this said to me when i was in San Fran, for the XBOX preview.
some felt the game was good the way it was and could go strait to PC.
it was however stated very clearly ( or i was listening very carfully ) that Red Storm refused to release a bad game and that they had something in mind just for the PC crowd.
those where the words ( not a direct quote, long conversation from a long time ago. )
i agree with the fellow who made the post. we may be a little bitter that we arent getting the info we want. but its more important to me to get the game i want, and let the devs do there thing.
Suli
Couldn't agree more.

chill out, the game will get released, and then you can see if its worth getting. If the game was drasticlly improved the nay sayers can eat thier words about never buying a ubi product(over and over and over again) and just enjoy the game(well until GR3 comes out
). -
It was in the UBI finacial report for 2003-2004. If someone can link that (I since lost it) it'll state total GR copies sold and on what platform.
-
The PC market accounts for 33% of total GR copies sold,... thats quite a few more than a few thousand.
Without developer designing games for the PC it wont be long before they fall behind the technology available. They'd be shooting themselves in the foot if they completely ignored the PC market.

mcdonalds also has franchises, but you don't see them hiding their products(food) from the customers.
Oh they keep plenty secret! Thank God they do, if we knew what they put into our burgers we wouldnt bother buying the yummy MCChickenPartstLeftover, ..... Suppersized please!

GRAW IS ALL URBAN
in GR:AW (PC) - General Discussion
Posted · Edited by smokin
My guess is no game engine can render that much detailed eye candy(on wide open maps) and provide decent gamplay for the average to above average computer to run. I blame those who are never happy with graphics and keep B*%#@ing for more (everyone)
.
From what I can see from the trailers, is the Urban maps are open enough for me to enjoy.Hopefully later with expansions, we can get more rural maps/design.
