Just wanna vent about maps?
I liked the cloth maps I got with Ultima 8 and 9... oh... not that.
But they where cool...Anyhow, I can let the cat out of the bag that I'm working on something in my spare time (not patch related). But it is still quite some time before I would call it finished. When it will be done all depends on how much spare time I got and how many games I get hooked on (finished The Witcher yesterday after about 60 hours, so back working on it again tomorrow for the first time in 3 weeks).

Hey Wolf stop answering (wasting your time) to the unimportant posts, i see many questions here unanswered that are far more important than the tit for tat posts. Give us some answers that mean something to us.

I'm just correcting statements that are not entirely true.
Not answering questions... well... I think I prevented the Fort thing from happening again... anyone tries it... they will feel what a bottomless pit is like. Also fixed the error in the "info stand" collision on that map.
Not really involved in the GRAW2 patch at all, just do minor fixes I stumble opp on and can do something about without taking time from the project I'm actually working on.

"recon"??????????????
Oh yeah, that ONE mission that bothered to be at all entertaining. JUST ONE. HArdly a revival, though he's right that it was at least one more worthwhile mission than we got in GRAW.
Hardly justifies the comment that they're putting anything BACK in Ghost Recon- it was there before and they BLEW it...
Actually you can finish all missions in GRAW2 in a recon type game style. It's all up to the player to take it slow and silent as the functionality is there. Unlike in GRAW1 when there wasn't a recon option.

What do you want for Christmas?
Not games, that's for sure. Got to many piled that I haven't finished yet.

I'm have my own opinions and they sometimes prove wrong
WRONG AGAIN.

What do you know? You're a newbie in this community. I've been here since 2001.

Moderators, I suggest splitting the topic from post #22 to a new one.

I post these little things occasionally because I don't think there is solid enough substance in the discussion to motivate putting aside as much dev time as whatever feature is currently on the topic would do. I'm usually looking for something more substantial that would motivate it as a "make or break" feature.Having had discussion with you in the past it's clear that you think your opinions are the most important, and by extension it gives the impression that's how the whole of GRIN thinks.I'm not saying that things are the way they are because that's the way they should be. I'm merely posting that I don't see the big fuzz about it and I'm looking for opinions based on reasonable facts.
It's in no way how the whole of Grin thinks. There are over 100 people there now and I think there are a lot of opinions on every issue. I'm have my own opinions and they sometimes prove wrong like they do for everyone, but when I don't feel convinced simple loose comments like the one I made in this topic, which was of a general nature and not 100% connected to GRAW2 in my mind, is a good way to try and get more input to use in the next iteration on the subject in my brain.
Answer this: How hard would it have been for GRIN to take the single player maps and convert them for m/p?On the MP part, the zones could have been placed in a day. But on a game dev level there are more things that would need to be considered, especially for the on disc release version of a game. For example all maps would have to be performance tested with 32 players in MP, which I don't think they would all pass without rebuilding quite substantially. Besides technical issues there is also the problem with the map layouts that are designed especially for each SP mission, which in most cases don't do well in MP modes. So rather then have maps that play a mode badly, it's better to leave it out.
EDIT: Added in the second quote for better overview as it switched forum page, added correct quote on first section. Cleared up some stuff.

GRAW2 was bundled with Dell laptops for example.
Wolf, this fact concerns me even more. If it were 600,000 units actively purchased by consumers that's one thing... how many of that 600,000 were pre-loads with OEM's? If it's substantial, I'd be concerned since a lot of pre-loaded crapware is simply un-installed, or the Dell PC is re-imaged, etc.
-John K.
I think they got it on a DVD on the side, that's how I got Vegas with my Dell. And I have no idea how many. It's only with their most expensive new XPS laptop with Ageia card I think, and only been available for a little over a month now. So I don't think it's that many units (so far at least).
Haven't seen any graphics card bundles like with GRAW1 and the GeForce 8600GTS. That probably would up the unit number more then with a Dell laptop.
-
I would guess that at least half of the people who has GRAW2 are not MP players though, so you wouldn't see them online anyhow.

You play games like WOW dont ya?
Are you kidding. If I played MMO you would never see me around. I can't quit playing an RPG without finishing it and you can't finish an MMO.

I've been her longer then you, what do you think I play, among other things? TFPS, not as much as I did before but it still happens quite often.
FOR GODS SAKE DUDE,Why do you think Steam is going so strong still.Because gamers are getting lazier and lazier and don't even want to go to the store to buy their games. They want to sit in front of their computer and get fat and brain damaged, preferably not having to eat sleep or shower. The good thing is that they never misplace their CD/DVD, as they need none.
Not that bad maybe, but it's the extreme example. I know, I have been having problem with food this weekend as the finance is away and I have to take time from gaming to cook.

EDIT:
CRAP, NOW WE ARE WAY OFF TOPIC!

I don't. That's why I posted my opinion. Same goes to you by the way that thinks people aren't gamers because they don't think like you.Don't expect others to act like you do or you'll go thru life disappointed.
Touche.
I don't ignore it, but it's not anything I would be able to implement anyhow. I just can't see that it as important as being one of the main issues with any game if it is missing, and that's all I wanted to point out.You don't have to like the reasons behind why people want the map d/l feature, but to ignore completely how important it is shows that you are out of touch with the clientele you're trying to sell to. -
Cuz you clearly aren't a gamer,
Oh really? I'd say just more divided into multiple types of games, and not all of them in electronic format.

Few people play more games then game developers, I assure you. That's usually why they do what they do, they play so many games that they want to know how it works on the inside and off it goes. But because of that we are also quite organized I guess, and as such check out what we need to download and install before trying to connect to the servers.
The topic just took a turn like auto download was a make of break feature for a game. And I really can't say that I can see that reality.
Off topic: Crap, now I'm hungry. Playing The Witcher for almost 30 hours straight does that I guess.

hey thanks tinker! i have another question, would it be possible to change the MEX units with US marines so tht you are fighting marines instead of MEX?

I`m pretty sure it is just a case of changing the unit names in the world.xml file and any responses in the mission file to match.
Most likely.

-
Auto download... in my opinion.... how could modding communities survive without it for years and years? They did and it was as simple as going to the server website that you wanted to play on and it listed which mods it used and had links to download them. Players who use mods usually stick to the same servers so I really don't see the big deal with this feature.
-
As it uses the pattern from GRAW1, which is in GRAW2 as a mask, I guess all that is needed is to assign that camo to the player team characters and add your own color values in the XML file.
Check the modding tutorial on more info on how the camos are specified in the character XML files, and you'll see what I'm talking about.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I was taught that the version number of a game was an indication of how much content has changed. For example, any version < 1.0 is a beta, 1.0 is always the initial release, and any version above that depends on how much content has changed. So version 2.0 would be a complete overhaul.
If I am correct, then GRAW 1 was patched to version 1.35, which would imply that a lot of content was changed or added (which is true: new gametypes, maps, etc). However, the GRAW 2 test server is still only 1.05, which would imply that the changes are more like tweaks than substantive content.
I think 1.0 IS the release. then minor patches go like 1.01,1.02,1.03
the major patches go like 1.1,1.2... 1.5 etc. then complete over hauls go liek like;
1.0, 2.0, 3.0 ... and so on.
Version numbers are handled different for each game, there are no standard. Some companies only update the first decimal for an expansion pack and the overall version number for a sequel. Some release the first version as 1.18.1.0 or something... so just looking at a version number for any game won't tell you anything else then exactly which version it is, not how much has been added or how many patches there has been.

Incidentally, what were the sales for GRAW 1 and 2 on the PC? What were the sales of the [Ghost Recon] game on the PC?
I think I herd 800000 for GRAW1 PC just before the summer. But don't quote me on that because I don't remember for sure.
Haven't seen or herd anything about the GRAW2 sales yet.
We just where told the final number from UBI to Grin for GRAW1 PC was 820000 units sold. And currently GRAW2 PC is at about 600000 units sold.

This is funny. Feels like I could have written that...
I agree.Remove the diamonds unless the friendly is in your line of sight, like it does with the enemy.
I agree.Drop the UAV. Makes things too easy at times because you know EXACTLY where the enemy is without any sort of effort. The only time this doesn't work is when they are inside a building or underneath something, but that rarely happens in the game(s).
I agree.Drop the Narcom. Almost everybody hates it because it gives the game a Hollywood feel rather than milsim feel.
This would be a combination of the two maps in GRAW2 right now with some stuff removed, and I agree to that as well as long as both statements apply simultaneously.Allow the viewing of the entire map with the tac map rather than just a radius around you.Disable the real-time viewing of the tac-map. It should be a static image that shows your position rather than an all-seeing eye in the sky that works just like a UAV.
I agree.Remove the health meter, or at least have it stand for your heart beat instead (which would hopefully affect your weapon handling/accuracy/stability etc). It's too actiony to look and say to yourself "Oh, I've got 2 bars left."

I'm actually a "maybe" on this question.
Some of it I like and other things I can definently do without. But I'm not in a position to decide these things. hehe. -
Amazing yes and bleeding huge

This "little" LAN is arranged twice a year, and it has grown in popularity since I was there last in 2000... or was it 2001. This is what gaming is all about. Seeing the people you play against face to face and then duke it out on the battlefield.

-
I know this is in Sweden, but Dreamhack is one of the largest (many years the largest) LAN party in the world. It started today and goes on until Sunday.

But with GRAW/GRAW2, I would have to open the same map up 4 different times and save the 4 different maps separately as one for siege, TDM, DM... this was something I tried to get across with Grin during the GRAW days but I guess I wasn't so good at explaining myself.

Once again. Only in GRAW1 and fixed in GRAW2.

800.000 copies of GRAW1 multiplied by the cost of the game =$$$$.
And we still can’t get a patch !!!!
Wasn't there 7 patches for GRAW1?
