  1. There was a very good jungle expasion pack for Rogue Spear around the same time as Urban Ops, but I cant remember the name of the pack, even then it was pretty convincing, some areas like the waterfall were really great to look at. Trouble was it was VERY difficult to play without getting shot when moving up on the bad guys, due to the thick cover and camo, you could be 3 feet away and still not see them.!! I have to say though it was a great place to fight, and I really enjoyed it, I would love to see a jungle expansion pack. I did like some of the old city maps in Urban Ops as well like Hong Kong etc.. But like most peeps I think it would be good to have some more open maps like GR had as well, as for country, how about fighting the Canadians, lol or here in Australia, maybe the story line can be that we declared war on the US for sending us shows like OPRAH!. JF
  2. Driveable vehicles are a feature of some games and are actually quite fun. I am as keen to know all about GRAW as the rest of you, no harm in asking, and FYI I am sure in RL that some ground vehicles ARE used by the type of forces these guys are meant to represent. There were tanks etc in GR1, and ocasionally it would have been nice to be able to steal one and give a bit back to the guys who were shootin the crap out of me with it ........... Anyhow, it would appear that the answer is no, thanks for the answer WK. Regds JF
  3. I must have missed this question being asked, and I understand that we will be able to ride in vehicles like helo's etc, but can they be driven by players as well? a la BF2 etc, < seems like a feature that should be there because of the competition from all the other games that do have them > JF
  4. LOl discussing loadingt times at this level of detail?? >> How many times do you expect to have to load it in a week??? Hell, if it meant I could get my hands on it now I would take it on 2500 3" floppy's and spend my xmas holidays loading it!!!!!!!!!
  5. I must be blind cause I cant see where you are talking about to find the dedi server links, as I also would like to use them. Regds JF
  6. I also have played COD Farcry (not bad actually) AA and just finished FEAR, and have to agree with you guys 100%, i guess if GRAW doesnt cut it I am going to have to take up online poker!!
  7. But as most people here know, there isnt any substitute for a lateral thinking, real live *sneaky S.O.B * on the other end of the virtual gun firing at you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! JF ←
  8. There is a map making section (plus a whole other bunch of stuff) on this forum mate________> http://www.alphasquad.net/forums/index.php You might also ask Harntrox (this site doenst look like it has much information but there is a good deal of info on the end of the links) he is here--------> http://www.dragmods.com/ JF
  9. Ghost_Zulu you seem to be an expert in regard to GR play, just to confirm you abilities you might want to get a hold of Alpha Squad's 2.5 mod, and see how far you get with your "mini me" . you can get it froom here----> http://www.stealthrecon.net/ But as most people here know, there isnt any substitute for a lateral thinking, real live *sneaky S.O.B * on the other end of the virtual gun firing at you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 10. Well I know I have gone on about this before, but all of us league based multiplayers are in trouble if this has no effective AC.
  11. " too much action. Most of my time as a soldier is not spent pulling the trigger, but waiting to pull the trigger. Scanning the windows, looking for movement, looking for the glint off of a wristwatch as he aims at me or mine..........." These two quotes pretty much sum up the situation for all us die hard PC Tac Sim junkies right now. I have been playing BF2 for lack of something to play while waiting for GRAW (and GR2!) and it pretty much sucks, as I spend the whole time either getting killed or trying not to!!. Just so much frenetic action that it is mostly too hard to play for any length of time (lol like several hours at a time). I miss the more considered pace and strategy of GR........................... ........So much so that I have just d/l'd a couple of newish mods for GR1 and am going to start down that track again, and see i there is a mod only CO-OP community alive anywhere. I have had it wiith the Hacking fests of UBI and IGS etc. Does anyone know of a good organized server/league for guys that want to play co-op and mods?. REgds JF
  12. All I know is, if I had so many people witrh a copy of a game I produced on their 'puters, I would sell them upgrade misson and map packs, that are cheap to produce, till they stopped buying them, that is what a franchise is all about. Lol McDonalds didnt say. "ok we have sold 1 million burgers --- lets stop now!!". Smart business would have wrung every last dollar out of the GR1 customer base, and UBI never even came close. JF
  13. What my post actually said................. If UBI had brought out ANY expansion packs after IT, like some maps or missions I would have gladly PAID for them, but they NEVER have. It makes me wonder why considering how they crank on in the UBI Corporate Invester section of their Corporate site about how successful the game was, 8.5 million (total - and I dont know the PC/Xbox split) copies sold and no point in releasing some small extra mission packs etc from time to tme???????. Why not, even if there was only 1.5 million pc versions sold, its should be a game developers dream to have a captured market that big!to sell addons to. http://www.ubisoftgroup.com/AboutUbisoft/D...t.aspx?cpid=804 ←
  14. No one, regardless of past contributions, mods or otherwise, has a right to sabotage OUR game. Enough is enough. ← Yes Tortfeaser, there is sabotage going on here, but I am not so sure you can balme it on Harn etc, make no mistake, if we do not get our collective acts together and have a loud enough voice you will be playing ALLl your games on and XBOX, the sabotage is aimed at PC games. --------------> .Reason: if you own the platform people play on, you will own the supply of games to sell into that platform. If you own the supply of games already, then people will have to move to that platform, it is a double play, and is SOP for large Japanese companies AND MICROSOFT (I was sales and marketing manager for a large Japanese company in Australia so I know), and as a business model it is know as "enciirclement". It takes time and a great deal (more than Ubi's got) of money, and wouldnt pay as big for UBI unless MS was involved and probably funding as well, to try to secure its Xbox investment return. If you think I am paraniod or a "conspiracy theorist" try this link for starters>>> http://www.simhq.com/_technology/technology_054a.html And FYI, I am no-ones troll account. JF PS> I dont know who Harn is in RL so he aint famous, but I do play his mods and they have added years to my enjoyment of GR1 so for that - I thank him. 15. As I have posted in another thread, I am sure that things will go back to how they were 15 years ago, where small companies will start to produce PC games that are great. It is obvious that UBI is now so big that they are profit driven only, and do not have the gamers "heart" left that stated the development of games in the first place. Their business model is to buy all the successful titles and then bury them, or convert them to Xbox only. Also I think he is not only "in bed " with Gates to push the Xbox and control the gaming market, but actually owns the bed shop too.!!!!!!!!!!!!!. I remember when Cris Roberts started and produced the (then!) best space sim Winig Commander, no Ubisoft was he. Sierra was a small company then and made the Great sim F117 and its brother F117a Stealth Fighter, not to mention all the others they made subsiquently, fantastic games for their time, and from (then) a small company. Companies like Bohemia are producing new games for PC like the up and commiing (2006) [Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising], but I think we are in for a resurgance of small companies who are "gamers at heart" and can see a ready market for the games that UBI are in the process of, or have ruined already. Take heart in the capitalistic system, where smart guys and gals will see a market need and jump in and fill it, and make a swag of cash in the bargain. ******* Note to game developers: If you could make a game that plays just like GR1 did, but with some slightly newer graphics etc, has replays and an AC and new maps,, and has NOTHING to do with UBI, I know where you can sell about a million of em!. JF
  16. WK, Just saw your posts on the UBI UK site about the cancellation and yr questions re the whole deal. for those who havnt seen them ------> http://forums.ubi.com/groupee/forums/a/tpc.../1931030563/p/2 As we say here in OZ "good on ya mate", seems like you aint afraid to ask the hard questions after all, my apologies for misjudging you a while back. I posted a message to Yves Guillemot on the same forum, I aint holding my breath for a reply................... JF
  17. This is from a post I made myself unpopular with u guys about, but it would seem that it was not so "blasphemous" as you guys first thought!!!. >>>> "............Thank you fro making my point so exactly Cobblers, why if it is only 2 months to release date are we using terms like "time will tell", how about GRIN (not time) tells us about the AC, so we can all stop "hoping" about it and start having our faster links installed in antisipation of the "blessed event"........... Shades of GR2 for PC starting to creep in here....... why is GrIN so shy about it??.........................."""" <<<<<< That post was 6 weeks ago, and I am certain that if the game was ready for PC, UBI would be sending it out to make as much money as possible as soon as possible. I never believed the release date, because of all the vague stuff in the answers to the most important questions - asked and "unasked". The best post I read in this thread is the one about them cancelling GRAW as GR4 is coming out eventually!! LOL if it were any other company that would be just a funny post..........but with UBI..................." JF. PS> In the early days of PC gaming, small companies (like Sierra and EA - yes. when they first started they were small and good companies) that made games that were great, sooner or later another will come along and develop a game that will be like GR1as far as game play goes, but with the updated graphics and stuff (like replayes, and an AC) that we wanted. When it does I will be the first person to buy it and set up a league for it, as I really would like to have nothing more to do with UBI.
  18. Lol DanniK, I didnt ask for the source code, only ask if there is an AC, not even to tell me how it worked.
  19. Thank you fro making my point so exactly Cobblers, why if it is only 2 months to release date are we using terms like this, how about GRIN (not time) tells us about the AC, so we can all stop "hoping" about it and start having our faster links installed in antisipation of the "blessed event"........... And for the record, what good will all the "heavy physics" be in 6 months time, when all the casual players have moved on to another game, and no-one wants to play it online because it is getting hacked as badly as GR1 is now?. Shades of GR2 for PC starting to creep in here....... why is GrIN so shy about it?? OPEN QUESTION TO GRIN: All I am asking for is a straight answer.........AC - yes or no?. JF.
  20. You see desertranger12, as Papa says, there are 2 differant types of players for this game: 1) Single player peeps who just want to play it as a bit of fun. AND 2) Hard core gamers who play it in leagues with ladders etc for hardcore fun!! lol. If you belong ot the first then good luck to you and your "..great looking game running to its full potential" but to the legion of players who kept this game alive for 6 years by playinig it online in leagues etc the replays were a major tool in fighting against hackers who were able to make cheats that allowed them to see thru walls, make your uniform glow so you could be seen from across the other side of a map, put you name above your head, lock their ret's, and the list goes on forever, unfortunatly. So let me tell you what would make this game run to its full potential for online gamers, that might just last for another 6 years, if they feel it isnt worth a GR4 before then(!!)...... 1) a game that has an anti-cheat 2) a game with replays that alow for checking of players, or a screen shot AC that takes ss's during the match, and post's em out after the match. 3) A game that can be modded the way GR1 was able to be. 4) Regular expansion packs or D/L's with new maps and weapons, and yes, most guys would be happy to pay for them if they were cheap but frequent...(lol dont UBI have ANY marketing planners, u guys have lost a fortune over the last 6 years, for upgrades you could have charged for!) 5) A game that plays the way GR1 did, but improved, not just "changed" loosing some of the things that were GR8 about the original, and then called an improvement. GR1 was a game that if it had been allowed to reach its full potential, by more active support from its owners over the years, it would still be as good or better than anything else of its type on offer today after 6 years (!), it should be a hell of a good base to start from, to develop a new updated game.lets see what happens.......... JF
  21. Hell I just turned 50 and I have been playing puter games since they were typed adventure games in DOS, lol before we made the quantum leap to EGA graphics!!!!!!!!!! Lol when Leasure suit Larry came out (in 1989 or thereabouts) it crashed the office server cause we had it so full of game saves! Lol in those days multiplayer meat over the office Lan with the tech guys in the lab, and other sales guys in the office, or my son by Null modem cable from my PC in the lounge to his PC in his bedroom. Played nearly every flight sim that has ever come out and was playing lan connected fliight sim games since 1989, and a big game was 150kbs!!. So what!!!!!!!! I dont understand why age is even a topic of conversation, you either a gamer or u aint regardless of age. Only diff now is I can afford a pc better than my old 286!!!!!!! but a kid of 16's money is the same colour as mine. The only thing WK and I can use a zimmer frame for is melting it down to make ammo. If yr a gamer then yr a gamer till u die. JF
  22. Lol cobblers, so what your saying is u dont know anythnig either, and what they do is ok because they must have a good reason for it, glad i dont live in your world where no-one questions anything. I am not suggesting that a game can ever be totally bulletproof, but I was hoping to see something that says they are REALLY trying, and dropping replays is a backward step in this competition between gamers who play straight, and hackers who ruin the games these guys develop and we pay for. JF.
  23. Why is there no discussion about an ANTI CHEAT in the WK interview, or did I miss something (other than the thing about server kicks)??. If they have decided to drop replays, then the AC had better be better than the hackers, or this game will be dead in the water as far as online MP is concerned about a week after launch. If we had both then the hackers would be out of the picture for a while for sure. Hackers are solely responsible for the game's demise in online MP, and even then only in the last 2 years or so, or it would still be played almost as much as it ever was. And btw, why can we do replays 6 years ago but not now, and i dont buy the answer they gave about it being too much info. Maybe its because this is a ported Xbox game, and not writen for a PC from the ground up?. If I am wrong then someone please tell me why what was possible 6 years ago is now not?. I would have traded the whole rest of the interview - and your coke thing - for a straight answer to 2 these questions. Sorry Rocky and WK, but that interview did nothing to make me feel the way all u guys seem to be, I am as keen as anyone to play GR3, but what is wrong with a good AC and replays, not to mention being able to jump over a wall etc?. The online MP gaming community, (and modders) were the ones who kept this game alive for 6 years, why has making this thing bulletproof against hackers not been the single most important advance in the development of a new version??> JF
  24. XBox Xbox Blah Blah Blah. I saw the graphics on the Xbox version of Raven Sheild and they were not a patch on the PC version. I havent seen a good reason why they are releasing this thing for Xbox in favor of PC other than kissing Bill Gates's ass, a few quick buck sales to 10 yo's who will play it for a week then be looking for next weeks new Xbox game. If it were not for the hard core PC gamers - and lets not forget the modders - who made this game the success it is, and in the case of the modders, gave it about 3 more years life span than it would have deserved otherwise, there would be no-one interested in an Xbox version and no GR2! The results of the "What version u going to buy " poll say it all. BOO SUCKS TO U XBOX I say! And just a little more on the Modders, they took GR1 and made it into twice the game it was originally, mods like HX5 with helo flyby missions and all the rest of it. Why did Ubi never bother to do this when they had the tools and presumably -some - of the talent, all along?. Lets hope they give out the modding tools up front when the game comes out.~~ JF
