  1. Well, have played little Splinter cell: Double agent now and I don´t know how you can make the port from console worse.

It don´t let you configure the buttons as you want to, it doesnt let you configure mouse settings as you want to, it don´t save video settings correctly. It feels like the only thing on the screen you see is the back of the agents head. The fps is not great, on my system I have 30+ at the first map at least, but then I don´t know exactly what settings I am using. I think I gotten 1680x1050 by changing the ini at least.

My confidence in UBI is dropping for every game, or console port is more like it, someone elegantly put it on another forum I was on:

    "EAT ###### UBI SOFT!"

or another comment on that the framerate was bad:

"the game itself sucks badly, so if the framerate is bad who cares!"

Well, I am still hoping for a great GRAW 2, but if we even get it I assume it will be another rush jobb, a buggy mess stressed through to coincide with the 360 release. But miracles could happen and I really hope we get one. But personally I think that UBI is the last company we should expect anything from.

My personal thought is that GRIN or some other company should just make a GR by themselves and just call it something else. We all would now that it is GR, but the name would be different.

Edit: You could probably make a console port worse, I was just irritated.

  2. Well, after starting to play F.E.A.R: Extraction point I must say, I considered GRAW to be unoptimized, but god damn! I can run FEAR at everything at max and 2xAA at 1680x1050 at decent speeds most of the time. In EP I got 20fps when looking down a black hole in one spot, I opened a door and came into a more open space and got 13(!!!) fps, I go into a fairly detailed subway and get 60+, I go into another big open space and have 60+, go into a small room and suddenly have 16fps. God damnit, I don´t know what they been doing when mapping, and I bought the game, never again an impulse buy....and lowering settings don´t do much unless you lower it a LOT. Do not buy unless you have an 8800gtx or some major sli setup! Beware!

I been goofing around on the single player maps in GRAW a little, and the fps do vary a lot between the maps, but I truly hope they try to make GRAW 2 more scalable, right now, at least for me, messing with the ingame settings don´t do that much, the only thing that have a great impact on fps is lowering the resolution. Most people are starting to have lcd setups and they don´t like non native resolutions that great.

  3. Everything on high except post effects, those are on medium. I hate the way high post effects looks with night vision, not to mention things get a little TOO blurry from a distance.

I thought you said you had a 1900XTX, not a XT, so I was thinking your performance was a little low. Knowing it's an XT now, your performance seems about right. What CPU do you have? Before when I had a Athlon 64 3200+, my FPS was around 35-45. When I upped my CPU to a dual core 4800 X2, that's when my FPS shot up a good 10-15 frames.

Edit: My system specs are as follows:

    EVGA 7900GTX cooled w/ Accelero X1 (ViewSonic VX2025WM 20.1" monitor)

4x512GB Dual Channel DDR400 Corsair ValueSelect RAM

    Athlon X2 4800+ Processor cooled w/ Zalman 9500

    2x74GB 10,000RPM Raptors in RAID 0

    EVGA nForce 4 SLI Mainboard

    Creative XtremeMusic 7.1

    OCZ 700 watt PSU

It's a fairly decent rig that hasn't had problems running most games on high settings at the WS resolution (1680x1050).

    E6600@3400Mhz

    2GB of ram

    x1900xt@675/792 512MB

  4. My 7900GTX runs GRAW at 1680x1050 rather well. I never see it dip below 40fps in heavy firefights and it usually hovers around 50-60fps. I would LOVE to get my hands on a 8800GTX, but as it is it would probably be smarter to wait and see what ATI comes up with. That, or when the 8800 cards go down from their current 90nm process to 65nm. Or switch over to DDR4 memory rather than DDR3. I still don't understand that decision....

So what kind of settings do you use? For me it feels kind of amazing with 50-60 fps on one single 7900gtx after checking around a little, and also noting the horrible performance of my card at 1680x1050.

Edit: Turned of shadows, textures medium, post processing low, and some other settings lowered, now it is actually playable at 1680x1050. But had to turn down a lot of settings, 30-60 most of the time now.

  6. I am actually considering buying one, have an x1900xt 512MB that has to go in for repairs and I could probably just put some (More like a lot.) of money in between. Or I could just hold out until the ATI cards come and and then buy the best card and hope that my x1900xt card survives until that.

What I really wanted to now if is anyone tired it with GRAW and did AA work? My x1900 card is not liking GRAW very much at 1680x1050 by the way, it screams and cries so I run it at a lower setting, same with FEAR, FEAR actually works but I had to turn down a lot of settings so it was better to just drop the resolution.

  7. Ubisoft didn't 'obliterate' any franchises. Sorry. They did take certain ones in a direction that alienates a small aspect of the marketplace.

"Small" is the wrong term. How many are playing online at any one time? 6 months after GR's release you could find that many people on a dozen servers.

Small is the right term. 'realistic' tactical shooter is a small market. Action tactical shooter, like 360 graw, is a massive market, and as such the game sold very well.

The reason GRAW pc is doing so poorly is because of how similar it is the Ghost Recon 1, unfortunately.

Ah, you must mean that it was released with a working multiplayer, coop that worked and not demanding as hell therefore limiting the number of people that could actually play it and also very similar in that it has a hero, no squads to order around, maps that are varied? :rocky::rocky:

All the above will probably hamper the sales....

I really think they should have worked on it for a longer time and dumped the hero aspect, and had more varied maps and I would have had a bunch of friends that would have bought it, now it was just me and I got a bitter taste in the mouth after playing for a while. Now it is certainly better but not totally to my satisfaction. Of course I realise that they wanted it out after the xbox version, but not to much after so people would have forgotten the hype.

  8. What will GRAW2 be? I think we need to take a historic look at UBISOFT's track record.

    UBISOFT has but obliterated the following franchises;

    1)Rainbow6 (include the offshoots(Ravenshield, Lockdown)

    2)Ghost Recon

A lot of what you say seems true to me but I'm really not sure if Red Storm had not been bought by UBI things would have been much different. Red Storm cranked out some games that seemed to be developed with a passion for gameplay with the R6/GR series but now it seems like everyone wants to jump on the eye candy/special effects, lame gameplay bandwagon. :wall: If that's where all the money is then we won't ever see another game as great as Ghost Recon is. :( If GRAW2 is anything like GRAW I'll be waiting till it hit's the $10 bargin bin like I did with GRAW as I still think it's a poor excuse for a Ghost Recon game. On the other hand I'll have to disagree with you about Raven Shield. The patches were a nightmare and we never did get an SDK but that game stands way above GRAW with all the different gamplay modes, plus they gave us Iron Wrath free. :)I'll sure glad some of the racing games haven't been ruined yet. GTR/GTR2

Not familiar with Iron Wrath mate. but I get the idea of what you're saying. I heard that UBISOFT is/was eyeing to buy Crytek. that's my biggest anger. this is alot like Microsoft. they don't innovate anything anymore, except Windows. but they find a company with a neat technology, then swallow it up. RSE would've been a great dev company had ubisoft kept it's hands off. Now RSE is known as a ubisoft entity that pushed out crap titles like Lockdown as of late. I understand that these small guys may fall by the wayside because some just fail.

Raven shield: Iron wraith is an add-on that UBI released for free, the maps are not spectacular but they are allright. I didn´t even know about it until like thursday so I have had som fun this week..

Raven shield I consider is a good game that they messed up by not managing to patch it up...ever....and the they give us Letdown and think we will like that consol crap, thanks...

    What will GRAW2 be?
    Fun?

    =)

    Well, that certainly helps...=)

What I think it will be:

Graw with a new story and new maps, with some bug fixes. So still hero, still not coop for all maps. And please give us a sniper rifle with more that 20 bullits.

  10. What I am hoping for:

A refined GRAW without the HERO.

More diverse maps, don´t cheap out on the mapping again.

    Squads you can order around.

Squadmembers that ain´t waiting out peacetime in the rear with the gear (Stay close..).

    Fixed multiplayer.

Not omnipotent enemies that spot you skulking around every time, seriously, if I peak around a corner a block away they don´t need to spot me instantly.

All this and I will buy it without hesitation.

    :thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Edit: COOP that works for all maps!

  11. Possibly because the card in question will finally be powerful enough to fuel the game it's bundled with out of the box?

It's common for bundled games to be prior generation 'high-end' titles. It shows the power of your hardware, without risking the chugging that bundling a bleeding edge game would introduce.

    Savvy marketing, really.

If you purchased a new video card, and the 'featured' game looked fantastic, but ran painfully slowly, you would likely feel ripped off.

By including a game that was slower on all former incarnations of hardware, as an example of how much better the new card is, you look like a greater innovator than you are, to the average consumer.

    Good marketing, really.

Also it is probably way cheaper to bundle an old game instead of a brand new one....=)

  12. Im on a budget n i dont know how to really build pc's so im goin to a PC swap meet in a few months after I sell my xbox n about 30 games.

Anywoo the specs im hypothetically gonna get will prob like this...

    Choice A

    Pentium 4 2.0 ghz

    512 Ram

    128mb graphics card

here is another setup i could find for my price

    Choice B

    Pentium 4 2.0ghz

    1024mb RAM

    256mb graphics card

I won't give my price due to internationality, and also please don't tell me what bits n pieces to buy cause i won't understand a word u say :) n just wanna know how it will run on either of those specs thanks :).

I'm also just after an average of around 30 fps at a minimum :).

I think it wil be hard to get that 30fps.

  13. Rainbow Six Vegas PC is going to be a straight port from 360, I would expect the same for GRAW 2.

You can forget about any GR type features; in Vegas, the working squad consists of 2 men, there is no planning, no mission briefings, everything is given on the fly, the game spans a time frame of about 2 days, the game structure is very similar to GRAW. I would expect that GRAW 2 would be more like GRAW 360.

Well, I think it I is time for another company to release a GR/RVS style game if UBI drops the ball, again. Actually Vegas looks neat but it seems to be a reall console game and not a tactical shooter.

  14. Still full price for us here in the UK. When I saw it in the store earlier this month it was actually priced higher than some titles released only recently!

Well, I suggest go and check out either Virgin Megastore or HMV, I was in London this weekend and it was £15. Also www.play.com have had it for £15 for a while but I think it is now up to £17 or £18.

And also if you go there please pick up Battlestar Galactica s1 for £19.99 and send it to me...;o)

Darn, why didn´t I buy it.. and I allmost died of the cold when I got of the plane at home, -1 in Umeå, +20 in London.
