Graw 2, 260kr/EUR 28/£18 @www.play.com
A very nice deal for europeans living in the right countries, also free delivery for those lucky. I am gonna order but god damn if they don´t have a patch ready for me when release date comes that don´t fix the fov issues.
http://www.play.com/Games/PC/4-/3256644/To...-2/Product.html
Ah, as I understand the widescreen thing is fixed:

[Merged with one of the existing threads where that is posted]
-
No true widescreen, NUTS!
;0)
-
Uhum, when reading in this thread I just thought they just brought with them the horrible fov from GRAW 1, did they actually make it even worse? I am confused now.
-
Can´t believe that they didn´t bother to fix the fov, come on, seriously, it is 2007.....
Well, I am just gonna hod of buying until the game is either in the bargin bin or they fix it.
Actually on every forum I been on there has been poeple complaiing about the fov, I guess we didn´t complain enough in GRAW 1 about it so they didn´t bother to look it over.
-
I think I tried everything on this forum but the crap still doesn´t work.
And when Uninstalling and Installing again I got an 6001 eror, that took like an hour the find the fix for, it is actually available on this page:
http://www.ghostrecon.net/faqs/index.php?a...&artlang=en
I have opened ports, dropped firewalls, created new accounts with different passwords and users, logged in with accounts on arcade, reinstalled graw, not in that order but I can tell you one thing. There is no ######ing way I am gonna buy Graw 2 if they use gamespy. Seriously, I have spent five hours with this crap now, five hours!!!
Seriously, five hours......................................
Allright, I got it working now. But don´t ask me how I did it, I have no idea. I even moved the computer back behind the router and still works like a charm....it just started working, maybe the server was feeling bad o something.
-
I would be suprised if it runs better than the first one, it would however be great if it did....=)
-
Well, I am not shure everone is talking about the same thing.
I can't speak for everyone, but a lot of the old timers around here like Nutlink etc know exactly what we are talking about.
But just for the record.....
Peripheral vision is also called Field of View. It occurs in 2 dimensions. horizonatally and vertically. It is measured in Angular degrees. I believe a real Human can see something approaching $160 degrees, although what he seees in the extreme periphery is not nearly as detailed as what he sees in his middle 120 degrees or so.
when we have these discussions on forums (and we have them often) we tend to focus on Horizontal anglualr FOV, however the vertical is just as important to discuss. especially in a game such as this where snipers lie in wait on balconies and roof tops.
the so called "zoomed in feel" is nothing more than a recognition that the angular field of view seems low. 60 degrees in a game is low. 75 to 80 degrees is more the norm and "feels" better. 90 degrees or more is considered nice in a game. Soem games have features to give the player wider control of their field of view. One example that comes to mind in IL-2 sturmovik (a flight ism for those who dont know). It has an option to allow the user to increase or decrease tehir FOV in 5 degree increments, however i do not think you can get IL-2 to exceed 90 degrees.
Another game that has an unexpected nice ability to increase FOV is R6VEGAS. using a widescreen tweak, you can increase your FOV to almost rediculous levels. People with 3 monitors side by side have generated FOVs of super human amounts. My 1440x900 has increased my FOV over the standard 4:3 settings of what appears to be an additional 20 degrees or so (Just guessing based on my qiuck and dirty tests)
So thats it. I think most of know what we are talking about here.
And its a vital subject in all games. And yes. I get lost in stiarwells sometimes due to the unusually low horizontal FOV in GRAW.
So why didn´t I write all that in my first post???!!!!
-
Well, I am not shure everone is talking about the same thing.
Just got to say that I got a LG204WT widescreen monitor and the feeling when playing GRAW is that you really feel zoomed all the time. It is like you are wearing blinders to the sides like race horses have to not be to distracted by other horses. In this case you wear it to not be distracted by things on the sides for example enemy soldires, and as someone mentuoned even going up stairs just feels weird.
-
I'm not completely sure what you're talking about.
Well, go and get a nice paper bag or something, then remove the bottom, place the bag on your head. Now you got the GRAW 1 feeling.
It feels like you are zoomed in all the time in the game.
-
Well, in GRAW when you run around it feels like you are zoomed in and don´t see ###### to the sides. Could we have some split vision this time, because I am plenty shure that I can see more than like 80 degrees in front of me.
-
Just order it from an Internet store?

I upgraded my videocard from a 7800GTX to an 8800GTX. Now, I can run the game all on max settings. But, I can't hit the broad side of a barn in MP. I even lowered all the settings to what they were with my 7800. It has been a long time since I played so poorly. It's almost as though I have to re-learn how to hande the weapons & such.
Anyone else have this problem? Is it all in my head, thinking with this awesome videocard I'll be unstoppable and therefore being careless?

You are shure you don´t have input lag? I get horrible input lag when connecting my x1900xt to with dvi to my LG 204WT, but none when using the vga, they don´t like each other. Feels like I am drunk when using the dvi and you can see that the mouse lags behind. Luckily I don´t see any difference in picture quality between my dvi and vga outputs, so I just use vga...

I'm a huge fan of the [Ghost Recon] and completed multiple times, I've been out of the gaming loop for a few years (house+car = money pits). But I recently got a decent PC and decided to splash out the princely sum of 10 quid on GRAW.....bejesus the game is ridiculously hard. I'm all for realism (albeit GRAW has unrealistic elements to it), but dropping 4 men into a huge city with minimal backup and seemingly fighting the entire Mexican army is supremely and utterly stupid IMO. I play games to have FUN, I know some gamers like their games to be very hard but I'd guess they are in the minority.
I don't want anyone to lambast me with "you so crap dood get sum skillz" etc etc, ad infinitum. If anyone is thinking that whilst reading this I say "get a life", there's more to it than computer games that are stupidly hard. I feel that a truly excellent concept, with excellent presentation and graphics has been literally ruined by the sheer odds against you. Any soldier would probably say that urban warfare is the absolute worst and hardest theater of war to be in. I'm just aghast that the level designers could be so stupid and not balance the game to a larger audience. Not only that they also made the game seemingly impossible to cheat too, hell they may as well make a game called Ghost Recon advanced caveman next, to see if anyone can take down the Iranian Islamic govt with nothing but a hairy body and a club.
I usually try to stay away from making coments like this but here it comes:
Get some 1337 skillz....;o)
Graw is not that hard, you just have to be more careful, after all you can probably take ten hits sometimes before yu go down.

The most interesting part about this mission is the two vehicles that get beamed in by some sinister evil force in the end. ###### was that all about?

Can you run Graw 1? I bet you don´t get high fps with that setup and my guess is that Graw 2 will take even more.
I have sam GPU , weaker CPU and same RAM and GRAW runs on HIGH ( except textures) with 30-40 FPS.
1280x1024? Anyway, you should lower some settings especially shadows to low do a big fps difference, also post processing does wonders for me. I runt it at 1680x1050 on an E6600@3400, 2GB ram and an x1900xt, 35-60fps. Actually I don´t run it at all right now because I have to send it in for repairs....
1024x768, I have 17' CRT monitor.
800x600 = 480000 14" crt 4/3 crap, the stuff that was neat to have in the end of the last millenium.
1024x768 = 786432 17" crt @1024x764
1440x900 = 1296000 19" wide tft 16/10
1280x1024 = 1310720 19" tft 5/4
1680x1050 = 1764000 20" wide tft 16/10
1600x1200 = 1920000 20" regular tft 4/3
If you do the math you see there is a major difference between the resolution 1024x768 and 1280x1024. A resolution that is 66% higher in the number of pixels will have a serious impact on performance. One problem for us with an tft is that we really don´t want to run at a lower resolution because the image will be crap compared to running at the resolution they are made for. I sometimes regret buying the 20" wide, but it is so pretty.......

Well, if you have gotten GRAW for 20 euro I would keep it. If you paid a lot more send it back and get it cheaper some place else.
www.play.com have it for €20 I think. I actually manage to find it for 14 euro for a friend, some take three pay for two deal at a local store, Game. If now only the company where he bought his computer sends the right motherboard this time, we have returned two so far, he is starting to get a bit upset...;o)

Well, after playing Rainbow six : Las Vegas on PC I must say that we GR lovers got the good stuff. I only played the first map on Las Vegas and I must say they really just ported the console over. The gameplay don´t seem to have anything to do with RS, on the first map you get to start of alone, but rumor has it you will get two team mates...hehe..
And the framerates? Well, 15-20fps on:
E6600@3400
x1900xt 512MB @675/792
2GB of ram
You only get 15-20 fps with an X1900XT card?!

Geez UBI...

Well, does it crash every 30 seconds like SC:DA? If not, then Vegas is top-notchAnd the framerates? Well, 15-20fps on:E6600@3400

This is at 1680x1080 but a lot of the options turned off or lowered a lot. I think it looked like ###### even before turning the options of/down. It is like some kind of blur filter all over the screen. Apparently even people with 88000 cards get 20-30fps outside.

I get 15-20 fps with an overclocked card, an E6600@3400 with a lot of settings on low but, it is a fairly high resolution, 1680x1050. As a comparison I play GRAW at the same resolution, AFx16 postprocessing at low, 30-60+ fps.
And I havent made it crash, but haven´t played much, got turned of by the 15fps....Double agent didn´+ crash either. Thank god I didn´t buy any of those two games, had a friend to lend them to me to test. I am very scared of buying games these days, got a disc of the newest Hitman that I bought downtown for a nice price on the table infront of me, lets hope it is good because I am planning to game and eat candy while my girlfriend is of to work tomorrow.
Also, I am really hoping for a VIP treatment for GRAW 2 but for me it feels like it will be a rush jobb considering the amount of time they had to make it, of course it probably will mainly just be a bunch of maps and some new weapons and skinns but that takes some time to.

So I must say that they gave GRAW their VIP treatment. I hope they do the same to GRAW 2 (But seriously it shouldn´t be called GRAW 2, I think it will be more like an addon that they want to charge full price for and are willing to divide the small community up...). PC gaming from Ubisoft is dead, they are going all in for console, if we wan´t GR/RS type of gameplay I think we have top look elsewere.
There is a slim hope and that is that GRIN has been given more freedom for GRAW 2. If that games fails on PC I think we will see no more GR/RS games from UBI to PC. For face it, Lockdown was crap and no one bought it, no one is going to buy Las Vegas because the demands on the system are truly insane, well, no one that bothers to check it out before búying that is.
Some artistic freedom and time for GRIN and I hope we will have a GRAW 2 that is what GRAW 1 should have been. Face it, they just killed of GRAW 1 with an early buggy release without even multiplayer, I mean, who releases a FPS without multiplayer in 2006?
-
Enemy AI that don´t dectect you the second you peak around a corner 200m away. Friendly AI that you can tell how close they should be, I shouldn´t have to wait 2 minutes for the AI friendlies to get within two city blocks. Also they wander of a lot instead of taking up firing positions closer to where I tell them to go. And fire of that ######ing anti-tank missile today!
All maps don´t need to use the same buildings.
A mission doesn´t end when the captain goes down, seriously...
Please don´t make it more taxing, it is horrible demanding as it is.
And please give us a "normal" sniper rifle. And more weapons.
And please release the mp fully functioning and actually with the game and not several months after.
Or you could just do as the last time and totally kill of the multiplayer part.
Do all this and I will consider bying it, but no preorder for me or storming into the games store on the releae day.
-
They should just add a 5s invulnerability period after spawning, that will teach those chicken######s to fight like a man....this is for appropriate game modes...
I mean, gunning someone down the moment they spawn is ass lame as you can get and I just feel repulsed by the fact that some people on this site even thinks it is a "greay area".
-
Well, personally I am kind of dissapointed about the FOV in this game, it seriously feels like you got blinders on the sides so you only can see straight forward. I was hoping with widescreen I would get the feel of more split vision but I still feel boxed in.
-
I actually find that I have 35-60 most of the time with shadows at low and postprocessing at low, at 1680x1050. But of course it would be nicer with 60+ all the time..;o)
Yeah but i'm running a 6800GS. To get 1280x1024 i have to run it like above ... average 35fps which is extremely playable.
Removing the shadows didn´t do much on the map I was at, I guess like 2-3 fps from low to all off.
Field of view / Widescreen issue
in GR:AW 2 (PC) - General Discussion
Posted
While we are at the widescreen issue, when playing the original Graw it feelt like the fov was to small, compared to other games it feelt like you where running around zoomed in. Will the fov be increased to eliminate the the zoomed in feeling, I am allmost becoming lost when going up and down stairs to take that as an example.
