  1. Good post. Well I can't say too much cos I only have the demo at the moment & My PC runs everything on minimum so the eye candy isn't so good having said that though Theres alot I can tell they did right. open gameplay I can play it how I want to play it. Tension filled, sure I played it with great caution & found it easy so I relaxed then got owned. It does keep you on your toes. Big Well designed maps. & the other stuff you've already mentiond. Theres more but I gtg now so I'll end this here but I can see this game is a worthy return for GR. I'm looking forward to some PC upgrades then giving GRAW a good thrashing for several years. well done grin, Patch the bugs, expand the MP & you've built a winner.

  3. yes i know my machine sucks, but you don't need more to play gr don't you... i had a gf mx440 and 300and sumethin' drram yes it's an athlon on the f.e.a.r. box is says that the min. cpu specs are 2.0ghz but it works really fine(90% above 40fps)... graw is coming out for the ps2 is it? ← The AMD xp2000 runs at 1.6ghz the reason it's called xp2000 is because it's the equivilant of the P4 2ghz Frost your CPU is the minimum so you'll be able to run it. Having said that though If you motherboard will take a higher one I'd recommend upgrading your CPU as this is the weakest link in your system.

AI don't have a superhuman 360 awareness, so yes, if you're quiet you can sneak up on them an put two quick ones in their neck *THUD* *THUD* (we need a smiley with a silenced Beretta!) ← Stench yeah thats the one I was missing. thanks for the response desmond22 so does GRAW AI have stench awareness? If so I'm in trouble

  7. Yeah what he said Also I think UBI could learn from this & allow other dev teams more freedom in future. It really has been a breath of fresh air to get feedback from the dev team. We know GRIN have been reading these forums & then looking at how they can build the ultimate game for us. Then they come in here, dispell myths, confirm facts & explain why they've done things a certain way. End result is we know that they do give a **** & the community has maximum respect. For me there openess has done more for PR than any ad campaign ever will. Keep it up guys. Respect

  10. Yeah theres one little thing your missing here & thats the guys at UBI that let go of the reigns & said "Do what ever you've got to do" as part of the brief to GRIN. I'd thank Redstorm for going out on a limb & greating GR1 in the first place, UBI for finally learning from there mistakes & picking a great Dev team & giving them control. (this was where other titles have turned to pooh) lastly it seems that UBI have removed there gagging order order on the dev team so they can pop in say hi which does make a difference. UBI have messed up alot in the past but as long as they learn from the mistakes I'll forgive em. hey heres to the future.

  12. a few Big maps with only a few interiors & some small maps with many interiors gets my vote. I'm sure this is what Grin would've done. To give interiors to every building in a city would be a next to impossible task & would soon end up in a pants online gaming experience (I'm cool with it in sp) It looks to me like GRIN really have considered all the angles,pulled out all the stops & considered most things I'm confident it'll be great.

I believe Bo said earlier that these effects would not be in GRAW due to the average engagement range. ← yeah I second that, Bo definatley stated a month or more ago that they looked into it but because of the distances involved it woudn't work. I think ultmately it just would've made the game sights appear buggy & frustrating so they ditched it. I'm all for realisim but not at the cost of game play. GR1 had a good balance & I'm sure GRAW will also. Lets be honest the shooting distance would need to be huge to justify it & you'd need some kinda 3d wind-o-meter to give you an idea of direction & strength of wind nah! I'm pleased with there decision
  15. It's not paintball, It looks like an airsoft skirmish to me, I've done a few woodland ones & it's a great laugh. I recommend it. I see your point about the head cam, Shows why the gun appears on the left as well.
  16. Yes indeed, but you can always talk about your expectations in the sound area, indicating at least that you have an interest in the game's sound. I have seen almost none of that in my time lurking these forums. ← ok GRiN_desmond22 heres a couple of questions for you c 1) could you tell me a little about what lengths you've gone to to really make it sound realistic. eg. have you a mass of sampled sounds or just a few with filters & effects to make the shots sound out in the open, in allyways, tunnels, hitting stone, Glass, cars, zipping past you ears, hitting flesh, tyres wood etc.... 2) is there much music in the game? If so by which artist or did you write it yourself? 3) are there things like interactive radio's etc... I know it's childish but I'd love to turn on a ingame stereo & have some inappropriate music. of course tacticaly it could be a diversion or cover other sounds 4) can you tell what your walking on just with your ears? Broken Glass, Grass, Stone slaps, sane etc... 5) Is the music in the choppers? 6) how about wildlife? While sneaking is it possible to disturb Birds? etc.. which might gove your position away? 7) what speaker set up would make a big difference theres a few questions that came to mind
  17. Fantastic, Just got into work & found this trailer & Been reading this thread for the last 30mins. Great work guys, I had faith in you way back & my hunch was right. It looks like you guys have deliverd, sadly I can't check out the sound as my boss would know that I'm not working Also a big thanks to you Grin guys for popping in & talking to us your answers mean alot & the fact that it appears you have a bit more time now speaks volumes aswell. I'm really looking forward to this & even if I don't make it into the GR.net v Grin match I hope to play you guys online someday. It's funny you've spent years building the ultimate game, the only worthy successor to GR & people pick up & criticise the smallest of things. Developing can be a thankless job but I hope you guys feel a warm glow as 90% of us absolutley love what you've done. ps. I've noticed a few peeps asking the same questions, Common guys read the thread before you ask just got to wait now

  19. Now thats the thing isn't it. Now for a game thats something you can't design, code, test etc.... all you can do is give it your best shot, send it out there into the real world & then You'll find out if it has soul by the worlds reaction. Now It's true & for me GR1 & it's expansions are the only games I've ever played that have that soul. Trying to break it down into what makes it up I'd have to say 1) Freedom to do a mission how you liked In the order you liked. 2) The maps, absolutly stunning, & yes there have been times wile in mid mission/fire fight I've stopped to admire the view 3) Option to remove all "enemy is here->" helpful information, I had to use my eye's ears & experience. 4) the difficulty level was good. It was a challenge but not frustrating, 5) Variety of maps & missions 6) The online community 7) one shot one kill or badly gimped, you need to recon before you stick your head out, hence the tactical/stealth now with any of these things not being spot on in the original it would've missed the mark & been a great game but not a great game with soul. Personally I have faith that GRIN will deliver but the one factor they have no control over is the community. I'd imagine when this game is released it will be welcomed by all type of gamers, including the runners & gunners, Now just maybe this is where we have some control. If we don't spit our dummies out, stick to our guns & play tactically & keep the level of comeradery that we had in GR1 like minded people will be attracted to the community for like minded fun & gaming, however if we do spit our dummys out because theres people playing in a way we don't like then guess what??? the community will have less tactical players, give it a few months, times it by a hundred & you've got a runner & gunner community. In a nut shell what I'm trying to say is that soul is 75% Grins responsibility & 25% is ours. If Grin deliver it's upto you/me/us to contribute to the community & make it what you want. I hope that made sense
  20. I think there does need to be a pre selection skill based competition, That way it'll be open to everyone & those who are prepared to make a real effort will be the ones who will go through. It takes nothing to stick your name on a list but if you really want it you'll practice for it. Also once the primary team is selected they need to play online together to get used to team work. Now some of you might be thinking wheres the fun. well for me the Alpha Squad tourney's were the best fun I've had gaming. Working as a tactical squad is where the real fun is at (IMHO) Anyhow I'm sure for just general fun online I'm sure we'll see the guys at Grin online anyway. Lets face it GRAW is looking to be the best online game around. of course there gonna be playing it Lets make this Tourney something special, infact how about making it a annual thing once we've betten them we'll have the title & they'll need to win it back oh yes I like the Idea of that
  21. I'm still chuckling at Iggy's first reply Well on that note, Wellcome to GR net Tinks, There a good bunch here & as long as your not trying to make enemy's you get on fine. The PC v Console thing has been done to death a millioin times Any how the bottom line is we love gaming & we're passionate about GR. So I might see you on the battlefield when GRAW PC is finally released.

I'm guessing that means I ask about Single plaer stuff. one thing that was mentioned awhile ago which was a little unclear to me was the number of tango's in a mission. from memory I think the number 20 was mentioned. Now there was a little speculation at the time because we were unsure if this was 20 total or 20 tango's in a single fire fight/squad/location etc... As to my mind 20 tangos on a map 1km by 4 blocks seems alittle sparse I just wonderd if you could confirm. Many thanks
  25. I'd guess the sheer amount of work & modeling needed. If you take a 1km map 4 blocks wide thats alot of work & mapping with closed doors. If you then map every room within each building (many Multi floored) you've got a collossal amount of work thats simply mind boggling. Also it would look crap unless your going to do it properly like SWAT4 & fill every room with junk. Now SWAT4 is awsome for it's indoors each room looks realistic because posters, tools, desks, bins, paper, coke cans etc... are all over the place with proper phisics!!! It's unfair to compare this though as a SWAT4 map is a single building. on the GRAW maps there will be 100's of buildings. I agree with you it would be great to have that but I think it will be a great many years before we see maps this big going into that much small detail.
