    What I may do is put the mansion on a hill higher than all the others, just so the shermanlevels are easier to do.

    QUESTION:

    does anyone have the normal GR trees saved individually as different scenes in max? If so, can you send them to the e-mail address above?

    Naw, it's your map. do as you see fit. just that I know alot about German structures and thought that might bring realism to your map.

    I've changed my mind. i want the mansion to look german, just I'll use the same floorplan I had planned on using before. Any help on the appearance of the entire map in terms of looking like it's in Germany would be appreciated.

    Here is what I have now, with the road, bridge, dock and boathouse added. ignore the green areas that look detached, they're only there because i pasted this render over a previous one

  2. thanks for the example. I might be interested, but I already found a floorplan I will probably use.

    would it be too un-german for the mansion to be red brick and a steep black roof??

    the idea wasn't necessarily that the mansion would look german, just that it was located in the Black Forest.

  3. I'm just beginning to make a new map, which I'm calling Black Forest. The main idea is a hilly forest and a creek with a large mansion (around 10,000 sq. feet)and random sheds, outbuildings etc. The mansion will be located at the top corner, with a road from it across to in between the two hills at the right corner.

  4. I think I have the basic concepts of mapmaking down, and would like to make a forest map with a creek and a mansion. However, when I use boxes to make the rooms, I would need 2 boxes, one for the inside of the room and one for the outside. Can anyone share their methods for making rooms / buildings??

  5. No offense, but i've seen calibrated retics in mods already. Yours looks great, it's just been done already.

    just changing the m203.gun file)

    try making a copy of the M16/M203, change the reticle with notepad instead of IGOR and put the gun and reticle files it in a mod.

    For some reason IGOR doesn't always actually change what it shows to have changed, thats why you should try it using the way I said above, with notepad.

  6. I did that and now under export it does have the GR file types. However, it doesn't have those types under the import option.

    could you please explain, step by step, where to put which plugins, and anything else I need to do to get them working?

I figured out how to apply textures to the ellipses, but thanks anyway. i have another question though (as always): I copied the plugins from the extras folder to the plugins folder for max, and restarted it, but under the options to import/export/open/save I don't have the option of importing/exporting files in any of the GR formats like .qob, .pob, and .map, so why isn't it working?

    I know these are stupid noob questions, but please answer anyway.

  8. I've made my second model, of the M82. My goal is, once I understand how to texture, export, add the muzzle flash/brass ejection points etc, to make a "standard upgrade" type mod for the sniper rifles in GR.

  9. thanks, the poly count is now 2132. how do you get the texture to appear in the perspective view while you work. I know the textures are being applied beacause they are there when I render the model.

    Also, how do I apply textures to extruded ellipses and cylinders? When I go into the edit window for the unwrap uwv, it shows the cylinder polygons from the end, not the side. How do I change this?

  10. thanks for the feedback. its 2702 polys, but it is still in a bunch of subpieces, since I have no clue how to weld objects, or get rid of unneeded vertices, etc.

    I will look into the videos, but I'm bandwidth-challenged, so it would take a long time to download a video that is fairly long.

  11. I just got 3ds max 5 today, and this is the very first thing I've made (so don't be too critical). However, I can't find a good tutorial in the recon section to explain, step by step, how to load a texture into the material editor and use it to texture the model, so could someone please explain that to me?

  12. would it be possible to have a mission where there are actors that are technically enemies, but don't actually attack you until you have a weapon in sight? could I script the mission to where the enemies are on the ROE of recon and the player has a kit that only has a weapon in the second slot, so the enemies dont attack, but if the players switches to the second kit item, then the enemies' ROE is set to assault or suppress, causing them to attack?

    thanks Jack, I should have realized that if I wanted to add music, I should put my sound in a music file! (duh)

    Zeko, I used the steps from the tutorial, just I had to use a music file instead of the AK47 sound in the tutorial.

  14. yes, I reconciled the sounds, but I can't find where I would set the music file to 22 mhz.

    Also, what do I need to do w/ the "playback" options when in IGOR?? :blink:

  15. I have a song by Trapt saved as a .wav and in the sound folder of a mod I made. Using IGOR, I made the effects.xml for the sound, with the "ambient sound" box checked. However, if I try to put the sound in a mission as a sound using IGOR, it doesn't play. What do I need to do to get it to play as an ambient sound in a mission? :wall::(

  16. I recently ordered a book on amazon.com that comes with the max 5 demo disc. If this:

    Discreet has confirmed that Hotfix 823980 – contained in the Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 - causes the corruption of 3ds max and Autodesk VIZ (.max) files.

    is already installed and I start making files in max, will the files have problems, or does the service pack only cause problems if you already have .max files on the system and then you install the service pack?
