  1. I am hearing mixed [word of mouth] reviews on this. Some people have said that it is awful. I don't necessarily trust the sources and I am going to see it anyway, but I didn't expect much in the way of bad press.

[i still think it will be badass and I am usually right]

  2. Weather control.

That is the sort of conspiracy nut garbage I am not even willing to entertain. Another example of this is something I read the other day. It was a comment I read on Loose Trains, a conspiracy spoof blog.

The comment was made by one 'InsideJob'. I expected there to be some conspiracy nuts replying, but I didn't expect anything like what he said.

For anybody who doesn't want to read through it, here are the main points of concern:

both Loose Change and In Plane Site were part of a deliberate disinformation campaign - they blend false claims with true claims in order to discredit the truth movement. there is very strong evidence that 9-11 was an inside job, and a lot of serious researchers are putting it together, and Loose Change and In Plane Site both ignore most of the real evidence, while blending in a lot of false claims.

Okay, I was with him through most of this. Yeah, I think Loose Change is full of crap too. But then this:

mixing false claims with true claims is a common disinformation tactic. the cover of the Loose Change DVD actually sandwiches 2 false claims with 2 true claims. the websites below give strong evidence that both videos were intended to throw people off the scent of the real evidence of an inside job.

So now Loose Change, probably the commonly cited 'evidence' in 9/11 conspiracy theory rants, is actually a government misinformation tool designed to help cover up the conspiracy?

No wonder Dylan Avery is still alive.

  3. The coils are electromagnetic. When they are powered up in sequence, the magnetic field pulls the projectile through the coil at increasing speed until it is shot out the other end of the coil.

  4. Yeah, I heard that from the 100 Greatest War Movies a while back. Another bit of trivia is that the movie was taking so long to complete that it was nicknamed 'Apocalypse Later' during shooting, one of the setbacks being that Sheen had a near-fatal heart attack.

Still one of my favourite war movies though. I give it seven rogue army colonels out of ten.

  5. I liked Apocalypse Now right up until the last half hour or so. After that, the movie sort of degenerates into madness, which is the point, but it just felt like they were trying to end the movie fast. Which they were.

  6. Lol... Lost In Translation will be the first film to be shown on the new free Film 4 when it moves over to Freeview at 21:00 tonight... I've never seen it before. Not worth bothering with then...?

That depends on whether or not you have a problem with watching a bewildered Bill Murray walk around Japan for ninety minutes doing next to nothing.

That said, I thought it was okay. 6/10.

So anyway, don't keep us in suspense about the top movies. I would wager Apocalypse Now and The Godfather are in there someplace.

  7. Well, if you want another explanation then I hope you find it. However, are you denying that 19 floors of skyscraper collapsing onto lower floors is going to expel a pretty large amount of air and dust with a pretty significant amount of force?

(EDIT - while I am on the subject)

...And that the resulting force of that falling section is more than enough to collapse the floors below it, building energy as the falling mass increases with each collpasing floor.

  8. ... the "mini explosions"... there may be a simple explanation, but I have not heard it yet, so I will keep an open mind here.

The scientific explanation (as described in the Popular Mechanics article) is simply that when the floors started to pancake, they pushed all of the air out of floors beneath as they came down, which created rushes of air and dust.

  9. ...Yeah, so what? The discussion was initially (somewhat) in reference to GRAW, but after a few pages the topic changed exclusively to Crysis.

Everyone who was posting in the thread, including the original poster, said it was cool to move the thread to a more relevant forum. Save your conspiracy theories for Bill Gates and Ubi.

  10. although I've never played OFP. Is it still worth picking up, or is it pretty much dead?

It's pretty far from dead. The community is large and bustling. Some mod teams have started devoting their time to ArmA, but the mod community is still kicking out new addons pretty much every day.

You can get the GOTY edition for peanuts. If you are turned off by dated graphics then it might not be worth buying, though there are several addons and mods that are devoted to making the game look better.
