Not to be a killjoy, but perhaps the current theme isn't exactly getting the juices flowing, if you know what I mean.

I'd like to take this opportunity to say something to all those who didn't like Flashpoint, but think ArmA will be their saviour from the soul-crushing demise of their favourite game franchise blah blah blah.
If you didn't like OFP, you won't like ArmA. For those who aren't sure why they didn't like OFP - Sometimes you just have to take a look inside, deep inside, and find the courage to admit that you really care about graphics more than you say you do on forums.
Also, if you don't like large (and dare I say - realistic) game worlds, then you're harping for the wrong game.
-
These go back to about a week ago, but since our resident ArmA newshound isn't around, here they are for anyone who hasn't seen them.
Older ones - I'll be damned if I'm linking them all.
From that update:
In addition new information concerning Armed Assault dedicated Servers have been published on the BI Forums."Both OFP and ArmA dedicated server needs quite a lot of data files, because there is a lot of simulation and AI computations performed on the server. For those you need all relevant information including collision information (which is part of p3d models) or even terrain surface information (which is quite huge in ArmA and is needed for the simulation to know surface properties at any point of the terrain).
While it might be able to provide a separate data set for the dedicated server with both model LODs and textures (excluded terrain surface type maps) reduced to bare minimum, the work needed to create such data is non-trivial and the results would most likely be sized somewhat between 500MB-1GB."
Also, it seems that Russian publisher Akella is planning to call their version [Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising]: Armed Assault. We'll see how that goes for them.

Nope. Your kidding right? All that stuff was real. You've never watched his show on the science channels?
Do you think Jeremy Clarkson can hit a falling object at a hundred feet with a rocket launcher?
Even if you do, do you think Top gear has enough money to pay for all the extra rockets he'd need before they finally got a take they could use?
Do you think they have the patience and resources to drive X number of cars off a cliff until Clarkson gets lucky and hits it?
The answer you are looking for is NO.
Plus, I saw this episode when it was on TV, and the CGI is utterly noticable.
Not everything you see on Tv is real.

Holy crap man, I just watched the Animation video. The part where the player runs and then hits the dirt is awesome.

Also ranger, why do you go to that LC forum? Thats the last place I would bother to tread. Mind you it surely must have some comedy value.
Yes, I was first linked to it via a comedy website/forum I visit. There was a long discussion there about 9/11 etc, and it eventually lead to the admin writing an article about the conspiracy theories, which was subsequently posted on the LC forum and, unsurprisingly, was met with a flurry of responses like "Man, this guy is obviously a government shill".
I find it very amusing. However, it also makes me angry, so I guess I should stop reading it.

On an unrelated note, I wanted to say something that came to mind when I read Moose's question about wreckage and stuff at the pentagon. I'm not going to post loads of pictures of the wreckage that are out there on Google, and that's not my point anyway. What I want to clear up involves the picture of the Mystery Box at the Pentagon scene.
This box, and more importantly this picture, is referenced by any number of conspiracy websites, and I believe it also features in Loose Change. The idea is that the box contains some sort of wreckage; maybe a plane engine (though why would they hide an engine and fuel conspiracy theories?), maybe parts of some kind of secret remote-control plane that was used to strike the Pentagon. Let's examine this picture.
First, it is being carried by seven or eight guys. Unless jet engines or secret miltary planes are being made out of balsa wood these days, I doubt whatever is in the 'box' is that heavy.
Second, the object they are carrying doesn't seem to have a bottom.
Third, it is a tent.
This isn't in response to anything in particular. I am just highlighting how little it takes for conspiracy types to latch onto something that has absolutely no consequence.

The reason I ask that is, nothing so far can "prove" it was a missile, but yet, nothing so far has "proven" it was a 757. If that being true, the people that tell you to your face a 757 did may not directly be your best friend or have you best interests at heart. This also goes for the other points not related to the pentagon.
Yeah, fair enough. In my mind there is plenty of evidence to conclude that a 757 did hit the pentagon. However, unless I see a video of the plane hitting, I cannot say for sure, though I believe that was the case.
On the subject of the "What We Saw" video - Calius, please tell me you aren't one of the people who gets all giddy as soon as you hear that woman say "IT WAS A MILITARY PLANE!"
(If not, fine. But I will continue anyway to make my point in response to the people I have seen who cite that video as solid evidence)
First off, we have all seen the footage of the planes hitting the towers. From multiple angles. They were airliners. Any attempt to discredit that fact, in the words of Dylan Avery, is scientifically unsound.
Second, Who is that woman? Nobody. She said she saw a 'huge plane'. Airliners are pretty huge. This is another example of disinformation. It's just like conspiracists who quote people who heard the towers collapse as saying "It sounded like an explosion" when what they really meant was "it sounded like an explosion". A loud noise.
Third, what does that video show that we haven't already seen? Nothing! Hell, it doesn't even show the damn planes hitting!
For the record, the very fact that it doesn't show the planes hitting is cause for the wackos on the LC forums to claim government coverup.
it's obvious that they are a sell-out. The government most likely paid them off not to air it for 5 years and to only air certain parts. Why else wouldn't this video surface right away after the attacks, seeming it would be the most important time to show. They chose to license this video and are most likely using it solely to make a proft. The government pays them off, then try to make money off licensing that. That is so pathetic. Sellouts are just as bad as our top officials who planned this IMO and should be considered traitors to the American people and punished accordinglyPunished Accordingly. This coming from a member of a group of people who are planning to overthrow the US government.

Certainly the way people present their beliefs and theories is going to have some effect on how they are received by others. If you speak and act like you have no interest in what the other parties have to say, you are going to be dismissed pretty quickly.
Avery and the other guy failed at this during that debate. I personally am willing to listen to what someone is saying, as long as it sounds rational and they show that they are at least considering the possibility that they are wrong. This is a trait I feel is lacking in most conspiracists.
Taking 9/11 as the freshest example: if there was any hard evidence - and I mean rock ###### solid evidence - whatsoever that there was a conspiracy, we wouldn't be sitting here talking about it. There wouldn't be any further need for a 'Truth Movement' and Dylan Avery would have to find some other way to make his money.
However, when someone comes at me with Illuminati Lizards and remote-control airliners, I cannot take it seriously. I don't even bother to research it.
When I heard about missiles hitting the Pentagon, I at least considered it something possible that I could logically refute. I dismiss that now because I have convinced myself through my own reading that it did not happen.
What annoys me is when someone sees something like Loose Change and immediately buys into every word of it, then refuses to consider any other point of view. That is when I start sharpening bricks.
fair play for these chaps to get off there ###### and assist a debateI don't think they have done much in the way of assisting any debate. All I see these days is conspiracists labelling expert research and testimony as 'disinformation'. Loose Change is the biggest disinformation tool I have ever had the displeasure of wiping off my retinas.
In my opinion, of course.
-
Well, they did alot better than Avery and the other guy at simply having a debate. Avery was sniggering at many of the things they said.
When they said something he didn't like, he or the other guy personally attacked them - calling them shills or liars. That is why people do not generally consider conspiracy theorists to be rational human beings. As soon as the other party rebuts a point or provides evidence contrary to what they believe, they immediately brand their opponents liars or government pawns.
The Loose Change forum is a classic example of this. One can disagree with what they say in nicest possible way, and they will be met with accusations of being government shills, sent there to impede the truth movement. This isn't just on the internet, as evidenced by Avery and his buddy on that debate.
Admittedly, the LC forum is home to some of the more extreme conspiracists. Cries of hatred directed at the 'Zionists' are a common sight over there. One fellow bemoaned the fact that the Jews made up the holocaust in order to get more land, and now his tax dollars are going toward protecting these Zionists and that they should all die.
Also the world is run by lizards.
-
Man, if you think that was bad, you should read the thread about the debate on the Loose Change forum. I have never wanted to cave in so many faces with so many sharpened bricks in one day.

What is BAS_MH6? I have all the BAS stuff, including the little birds, but I don't seem to have that.

Wow. That is alot of addons.
Fortunately I have almost all of them.

I think he is referring to the fact that 'DirectX10' appears in the search box in the link, and this video has apparently been flagged as a result of that search.
The answer is probably because the video was uploaded by or at armedassault.com, which probably references DirectX.

Clearly, Russia will one day defeat us all.

The dead numbered around 20-23 people, according to most news outlets.
"Eighteen people were killed. A further 946 were injured"
"...23 people dead... 947 injured"
Couldn't find anything solid from news media on the cameraman, but certainly everywhere the video is posted says he died.

Step 1: Download and install Audacity
Step 2: Open Audacity and in the drop-down menu at the top, select 'Stereo Mix'.
Step 3: Start recording, then play the video.

The default 3rd person key is the enter key on the numpad. Is that the one you are pressing? If so, try changing it.
Also, download Izarc and use that for opening your rar files and such. When you have extracted the files, read the readme and put them where it tells you (usually in Codemasters/Operation Flashpoint/Res/Addons).

For an example this "plot" is a complete mirror of a 1995 "plot" called Project Bojinka that was "thwarted" ... I say thats a funny coincedence .. I want to know more about this episode, alot more & not just what TV tells me.
No, of course not. Just what you read on American news media websites.

Uh... was mine disqualified or something?

This may be a reference to a girl called Brooke "Brookers" Brodack, who was recently signed up to some kind of talent deal by Carson Daly, who saw her on YouTube and "became mesmerized" by her version of the Numa Numa thing.
Clearly, Mr. Daly and I learned different definitions of the word 'talent'.
EDIT
Oooor maybe not, since this article is from 2003. Never mind.

No, a rail gun is called a rail gun because it propels the projectile in a magnetic field between two rails. This is similar, but not the same thing.

Just in case anybody was wondering; Yeah, it's fake.
