  1. I think the lack of forest maps is due to two things. First, Mexico City doesn't have too many forests and the game is set in this environment. If half the maps were set in big forests people would be severely criticizing GRIN for having forests in the middle of the world's biggest city

Nobody is complaining that there aren't any forests in the middle of Mexico City. I think the point is rather that the game should have been set in a place where rural areas would be common.

I don't mind the urban setting myself, just nitpicking.

  2. Just read something that confirmed a feature I saw in the video:

In the video, you see the player trying to hit the guys who just blew up the tank, but they are out of range. He then ducks into cover and you can see him fiddling with his sights, then he pops up and hits the guys on the roof.

It seems that if you are trying to hit a target that is outside your weapon's average range, your accuracy meter in the top right will tell you so. You can then actually adjust your iron sights for distance, so you are able to hit the target.

  3. Haha, awesome.

    Looks sort of scripted, but fun. The animations, lighting and effects are all really nice. Just read this article about it and it boasts some nice features;

In one instance, a gunner in a large tower pins you down, and you're incapable of firing back, so you have to draw his fire long enough for one of your teammates to destroy the tower, which topples gloriously to the streets below. Another cool aspect of the gameplay is the ability to use dead bodies as "organic cover" (in the words of the developers); they'll take bullets and flop around as you hold them in front of you.

Note the "incapable of firing back" section of the above paragraph. That wasn't a result of a lack of ammo or anything; instead, the game keeps track of all the different real-world statistics of the different weapons you're fighting with, such as muzzle velocity, bullet distance, killing power, and so forth.

That part of the video was hilarious. The whole concept is nice and fresh, too. One to look out for.

  4. A: Doesnt dis prove why the towers fell the way they did & explosions going off in basement areas

What do you mean by 'fell the way they did'? What way? You mean how they pretty much collapsed vertically?

  5. If you want jumping/climbing go play BF2...

Are you implying that climbing is an arcade feature? Jumping obviously does have the potential to become a nuisance, but climbing is no more arcade than one-shot kills. You gain absolutely no advantage from climbing over an object other than being able to climb over an object.

Jumping and climbing were left out too many people did not want it.

Maybe I have a selective memory, but I seem to recall a climb/clamber option on most peoples' lists in those 'What I would like to see in GR2' threads ages ago. Did opinions suddenly change when GRAW was announced?

  6. In my opinion that would be the nicest thing to have (although it could be just to much because the chances are you'll never get up, because it takes to much time).
Yeah, it would no doubt lead to some frustration when you are taking fire and have to waste valuable seconds picking yourself up off the floor, but if there is also some way to determine the frequency and probability of being knocked down, then it could be a rare thing that you have to deal with.

I also suggested elsewhere that another option is to only get knocked over when you get hit while running, but I am guessing this would be even harder to accomplish than the former method.

  7. Spot on 2nd', the latter was definitely a lot darker. It amazes me how complex the fight scenes are, for a film maker that is. In the first one, the DVD extras show what went in to the US Embassy fight scene in Switzerland. They spend days getting it right, and we just see seconds.

Yeah, I remember watching the extras specifically for that kind of thing. That scene was probably my favourite part of the movie; the way he disarms that one guy and flattens the others, then walks out while they wonder what just happened is great.

The one main fight scene in the other Treadstone agent's flat in Supremacy was really well done, despite the camerawork. It was really brutal, the tension coming from the fact that for once, Bourne is fighting someone who is actually on his level rather than hapless security guards and thugs. I still find it funny when Bourne rolls up a magazine and starts slapping the guy with it.

  8. I've never seen the show but if I understand it correctly it's one of those early shows that are like the Starsky and Hutch series?

If Starsky was David Hasselhoff and Hutch was a talking car, then yeah, just like that.

  9. Yeah, Greengrass directed Flight 93, shaky cam and all (though I doubt there are many martial arts fight sequences to ruin with it).

The fights (well, fight) in Supremacy were still badass, but I felt that they worked better in Identity because you could see everything that was going on. Tight, handheld shots certainly do something to make the fights grittier and more visceral, but at the cost of feeling a bit claustrophobic.

I did really like that Supremacy was alot darker and grittier though. There was fast, unrelenting tension right up until the end of the final chase. It was probably the best film I saw that year.

  10. Yeah, I figured Jackman would be in the running somewhere. I know Kurt Russell as Snake is probably not going to happen, it would just be cool considering that Solid Snake is apparently based on Snake Plissken (which is probably a good reason for Russell not doing it).
