Thanks very much!

I'm sure it's been asked before, but is there a list or reference anywhere that tells you what animations do what? I'm looking to script some simple animations for standing around and talking, and I'd rather not have to do trial and error.
Thanks.
Oh, and I should specify that I need these to be animations I can call with the Animation plan step, not just Idle animations I set.

You can't have a tank drive around a map with a gametype. That's one of the limits and that's why you'll have to play your idea in Mission mode.
I'm pretty sure to get what you want you'll have to assign variables to the different companies, but I don't really know all the details. Someone else smarter then myself will chime in and help you out.

Hey Biro,
New screenshots look fantastic! Love the blue fog.

GR 1 may be out for GMax. But not necessarily GR 2.

I think deleyt's post was directed at people interested in honing their 3D skills without the need for expensive software. In which case it's not at all useless.

Its even a good idea to keep multiple versions and back them up on external media. There is nothing more frustrating than losing 100s of hours of work due to bad file management.
Oh yeah! Right now the map I'm building has 16 seperate MAX files of various portions and build stages. And that's not including my "backup" folder where I put stuff when I work on something else.

Ahh. I didn't realize that El_Oso. I just went to test it and it seems you're right. However, if I save something with multiple levels and then open it, it all gets compressed to one level. Is there a way around that?

ingeloop: Make sure the image is flattened (not multiple layers) and also, if you aren't using it, make sure you copy the RSB plugin from the IT cd over to your plugin folder in photoshop.

I don't know if this would be your problem, but I think you're supposed to name portals you can't walk through (like the window one) pt01_03.

Tip: Don't run around your house with a friend firing airsoft pistols at each other with no eye protection. Because you might hit him in the eye and have to drive him an hour to a bigger city so that the doctor can perform surgery on his eye. And then you have to keep driving him back for periodic checkups to make sure his eye isn't permanently damaged. Plus, he had to get a NEEDLE stuck in his EYE! That doesn't sound fun.
Just a tip.

Ah! I did not know that sleeper. Thanks for the clarification.

I believe you always, no matter what, need one ShermanLevelHeight for the AI to be able to correctly walk across the ground.
Though if you didn't have one on either map and only one map was crashing I'd say it's likely crashing because of something else. Maybe double check that you aren't missing any custom texture files or anything else you're using.

Listen to Shiver. He knows what he's talking about. I'm still figuring it all out.
Shiver, I like that idea about making one of the levels a transition. Would that work by putting the 1.25 and 1.75 at each staircase and then making the floor area 1.5?

It's hard to say exactly without seeing all of your geometry, but the most logical thing to me would be to make it like this:

Your ground would be level one, with that first level of the building. Also, I would suggest making the stairs a part of level 2.
Also, I'm still working out the details on sherman levels, so I could be totally wrong. But I think that's the basic way it should be set up.

What editors do you have experience with? I had quite a bit of experience with Worldcraft and a little with Radient and UnrealEd. I found the switch-over to 3DSM fairly easy (though I'm still learning plenty). If you're experience has been entirely with brush-based editors like mine was, one of the big things to switch tracks on is that 3DSM is not brush-based. There is no compile process to cut out the back sides of brushes and you'll be working a lot with single planes and the direction of their normals.

I have no connections....
I'm out of the loop....
Liar.

I just double-checked in Igor to make sure, but it's just a proximity trigger. You need no special equipment to bug the plane. Just get as close as you can to it and stay there for a bit. It looks like 'his' plane could be any one of four planes.

Just so you know I had DS and IT enabled when I crashed to desktop on insertion.
-
I crashed to desktop on insert.
I agree with Chavez. Try not to use the initially hidden button or the Hide Thing action in Igor. This will cause shadow actors/vehicles that could crash the server in Coop play.
Also, you had no briefing whatsoever so I wouldn't have known what I was supposed to do. Just a simple bit of text explaining the objectives would be nice.
But, for a couple days you seem to have learned a lot. I suggest you spend quite a bit more time with Igor and on your missions. Even talented scripters spend more then 2 days on missions. Just keep going and learning new things with it.

Pretty startling when you start firing full auto and it suddenly sounds like the world is breaking in two.

-
I ran into the same oddity once when I had set my room property to Windy. Like, if you select the room in Igor you can change the drop down select box to different stuff. I put it on Windy and if I fired full auto my speakers would fuzz out with all the reverb.
I just leave it on Plain. You can use zones to set up wind sounds and stuff. -
I second the mods by Jack57 and Frostbite. If you haven't heard of Frostbite, don't get it first! It will ruin you for other mods.
It is, literally, the equivalent of an RSE expansion pack. Also, see the little text image up above this forum that says "GhostRecon.net Forum Awards"? Click it. It's got a huge list of modding "topics" and people are currently voting on what they think is the best in each topic. So check out the mods that are voted highest, see if they're designed for SP or not, and go from there.

What low framerate? All of this must be coming from people used to high end cards and frame rates of 100-200, because my rate was always around the usual high for me.
I usually get 30-40 with all medium settings (not a high-end card), occassional drops to 25. This map had me under 20 at all times. In SP, barely under 20 is barely manageable for me. In Coop or TvT it really isn't.
My old computer ran at about 20 FPS with all low settings (on a good day). I can guarantee you I would never have risen above 10 FPS on this map with that computer.
Also, keep in mind that the map had no enemies on it. A standard RSE map with no enemies on it gives me 60 FPS pretty consistently. Again, this map had me under 20 FPS with no enemies. Now imagine the 20-30 FPS hit I take from a full mission put onto this map. It'd be even more difficult to run.
True, I could move all my settings to low for this map, but most people out there that are already skirting by on low settings couldn't. People like me a few months ago before I got a new computer.

I'm having trouble getting those console commands to work. How exactly am I supposed to input it? I've tried:
names showmotions
names
showmotions
names show motions
names
show motions
names 'showmotions'
None of them are working...
