Same settings "full real" as they like to call it on the UBI IL-2 forums. It just somehow seems a bit easier to fly. To me it seems harder to stall a plane, and once you do it is much easier to recover from the stall. Maybe it is just that I am getting more comfortable with the game and flight in general.

UPDATE: The Ace Expansion Pack has be delayed for a bit, UBI is now showing a March release date. Extra Update: I finally broke down and cancelled my pre-order of the Gold edition of FB and ordered FB. Is it me or is it really easier to fly in IL2:FB compared to flying the original IL2? I'm still struggling with take-offs and landings in FB but I seem to fly much better in FB, I can actually hit the planes that I am shooting at.

For $20 (US) you can not beat the GR Gold edition. Personally I think that GR blows all other sims of the same type away. Tons of mods for it online, a HUGE online community and lots of ways to play online too! The only way you could spend $20 better is to get IL2: Forgotten Battles!
-
Yes, you can get the Aces expansion by itself or get the gold with both.

I'll second that one. The 2500 Barton core CPU is the charmed CPU from AMD at this point. More bang per buck than the rest of the line. Keep this in mind: AMD XP 2500+ CPU Barton core (333 MHz) @ 1.83 GHz $89 (US) AMD XP 3000+ CPU Barton core (333 MHz) @ 2.17 GHz $199 (US) AMD XP 3200+ CPU Barton core (400 MHz) @ 2.20 GHz $209 (US) Last week I was running my 2500 @ 2.17 GHz. A few days ago I tweaked it some more and am now running at 2.4 GHz. I guess that means that I have the *new* AMD XP 3500+.

The "Gold" version is IL2:FB and the Aces expansion pack together.

What you want to do is go to the site mentioned above and read. Great site filled with all sorts of answers and they even have a Asus specific forum to boot! Also if the BIOS on that board allows it try changing the multiplier as well as the FSB frequency. On my GigaByte GA-7N400 Pro I am using the following settings: 10.5 FSB Multiplier, 200 for the FSB at 1.675 volts. I also set the memory timings to Aggressive. This turns my XP 2500 Barton into a XP 3000! Not too shabby for an $85 (US) CPU huh?

Yes The AMD 3000 runs at 2.17GHz. Neither can anyone else! AMD chips are named to give an idea of what would be the equavilent Intel chip. So an XP 3000+ is equal to an Intel CPU of 3.0GHz When I built my current system I decided to get the AMD XP 2500+ barton core. I easily overclocked it to 2.17GHz in the bios (with the stock AMD HSF, core temp only went up 2 degrees under full load). Cost half the price of a XP 3000+

I look at it this way... If money is tight go with AMD, if you have tons of money to blow then go with Intel. I prefer AMD. I have always had good results with them. NEVER an overheating problem at all (The last overheating problem I had was on Commodore 1581 disk drives, had to keep the cases open with a desk fan blowing on them ). In my household we have all the major "consumer" flavors of CPUs: Intel, AMD and Motorola PPC. All do the job and all do their job well. Bottom Line: Decide what *you* want to do with *your* system (games or work or both). Decide how much you want to spend

In case you don't know... there is a new 1.22 patch our for IL2:FB. Also, I have been having some fun toying with a few programs to help "enhance" the game play of IL2 and IL2:FB FreeLook Free head tracking software. I have yet to get it to work very well, but then again I do have some lighting issues that FreeLook does not like. I have only been able to get the generic.fl and ranbow6.fl profiles to work sporadically at best with the "lights on", if I dim them and use a tv remote it works like a champ. I will be canabalizing an old tv remote to make use of the IR LED for tracking.

I look at it this way... Games tend to be very dissapointing on the Mac. Photoshop is very dissapointing on the PC. Games tend to be very dissapointing on the Mac. Illustrator is very dissapointing on the PC. Games tend to be very dissapointing on the Mac. QuarkXpress is very dissapointing on the PC. Linux is very, very dissapointing on the Mac. Linux excells on the PC. I use my 1996 Mac clone every day for work. I use my 2003 PC every day for games and net surfing. My 1996 Mac clone cost close to $2,000 (US) My 2003 PC cost me to build $675 (US) I love both plaforms dearl

Yup, I'll second that about the Mac Harrm. People think that Bill Gates is evil, Steve Jobs is far, far worse. The last Mac I bought was the short time span when Apple actually let third parties make and sell complete machines. I am far from being a Apple hater. I still use one for my graphic business (Power Computing PowerBase with 256 MB RAM, PowerLogix 350 mHz daughter card CPU upgrade It gets the job done just fine!), but the Mac will never be a viable gaming platform. My thoughts on VirtualPC.... garbage, it's slow, a pain, and not 100% compatable with everything. For the hassles yo

Anyone who has a pair of these play any of these games: WarCraft III: ROC WarCraft III: TFT Battle Realms Do the glasses work with those games?

Well, I pre-ordered the IL-2:FB Gold Edition. It is supposed to ship sometime between Jan. 26th and Feb. 4th. I can't wait to fly the P-38!

GR takes around 4 mins to load
Chef-Scott replied to ColonelMubarak's topic in GR (PC) - Tech Support
I only have 6 or so mods beside DS and IT in my GR folder and it will load on my PC in about 27 seconds. (mod folder size is 3.58 GB). Then again due to the way I use my computer I make use of FarStone's Game Drive software (Copyright Disclosure). It cuts my load times on all the games I play! -
Now I am a bit confused.... I am getting ready to order IL-2:FB and I see that supposedly on the 28th of next month there is a FB expansion set to be released and a "Gold" edition. Anyone know anymore about this? I'm not finding any of this on the UBI site. Here is the link to where I found this out: FB Expansion and Gold edition Edit: Ohhhhhh!!!! Ahhhhhh!!!! A P-38 in the expansion!!!! I AM IN HEAVEN!!!

Plain, Beige and Proud!!! Seriously though, to me it is simple economics: ChiefTec Dragon mid size in beige $32 (US) ChiefTec Dragon mid size in color, window... $70 (US) I don't really understand the need for a side window The desire to have cold cathode lights inside a computer The want of a clear UV reactive power supply cover Fans that have LEDs Dashboard gauges in an empty 5.25 slot Cigarette lighters in the same empty slots.... Well, OK I like this one!!
-
Or you can do as I did... I bought GR and liked it, tried to find DS and IT and could only find both used (I do not buy used software). So I spent the $20 and bought the gold edition.

IL-2 Sturmovik But I still play GR

Well right now that would be more like this:

I went and bought two gifts this year, that my 2 year old son "urged" me to get. I got IL2 (nowhere was IL2:FB to be found on a store shelf) and a Logitech extreme 3D pro twist handle joystick. Now to order IL2:FB and all will be well. This is a fantastic flight sim. There is no other way to put it.
-
Gee, thanks a bunch for posting all of this, and me finally reading it! I would have been fine except some of you had to start posting some of this gem of a program. I haven't played a flight sim I enjoyed more since I had F/A-18 Hornet from Graphic Simulations Corporation back in 1992 when I had a Quadra 700 and a CH Flight Stick Pro. This is hands down the BEST flight sim I have ever "flown". Now, thanks to all of YOU I now have to buy this game. I have been playing the demo to death. And on top of that I'm also going to have to buy a flight controller of some sort for my PC. So

Different mobo here (GigaByte GA7N400 Pro) but it is the Nvidia chipset, and I am in love with the onboard audio. I have had zero issues with it. And I think that for a computer the sound is fantastic!!!

Well... I hate to break the news to you, but there is no "24 hour grace period" on ROMs, software or music.
