  1. A server admin can adjust the kits to various configurations. The no restrictions setting has the largest number. It pairs every primary weapon with every secondary. If you prefer, there is a "balanced kit" option that reduces the number of available kits significantly. The kits available using this setting were well planned out, pairing appropriate weapons and balancing the primary weapon with the secondary weapon. For instance, the sniper rifles with the least zoom are paired with an SMG, but the others are not.

In addition, you'll find other kit restriction settings:

    • no projectile explosives = no nade launchers or rockets
    • no sensors
    • shotguns only
    • pistols only = FL-AVA pistols
    • support weapons only
    • originals only = removes FL-AVA weapons entirely
    • and some others

That last mission was hard to balance. I didn't want it to be impossible to assassinate Ghadafi but at the same time I tried to force the player to be stealthy. Maybe it's easy for you because you're a sneaky sort of player. :P

Must have missed that spontaneous appearance when I was doing the extensive editing to remove the crash bug from EVERY SINGLE MISSION. I'll remember that if we do an add-on for FL-AVA (which at least one of us is considering at the moment).

Otherwise I enjoyed all of it.  -Wolfsong

Coming from you Wolfsong, one of the pioneers of GR mission scripting, this means ALOT! Thanks.

  2. The format for all sounds must be PCM 22,050 Hz and either 8 bit or 16 bit. Effects and briefings should be mono whereas music could be stereo if you want.

I've been quoted again and on a different forum even! LOL.

  3. The references to sounds in the vehicles are hardcoded unfortunately. The DRAG team found that they had to use existing filenames since their helicopters were tagged as tanks in the game. This meant that tank sounds emitted from the choppers. They had no way to prevent this without including a blank version of the file in the mod folders that would override the default file.

At the same time, they use the PlaySound3D script response to get the correct sound sequence for the choppers. I modified their sound looping technique slightly in FL-AVA when I was given the ok to use them. It seemed that when you saved a game and reloaded using their method, the chopper wouldn't no longer play it's sounds. I came up with a method such that the sound might not play immediately, but it would start after within a few seconds of loadin and continue to play as normal. I think that the Black Sun team eventually incorporated my method into their mod as well.

Anyway, check out the scripts for the heli's in Black Sun 3.0 or in FL-AVA 1.4 if you need some reference Igor scripting.

  4. You should reference a face texture in the tags that RUIN pointed out. You should think about inserting <JungleLOD1> tags as xSynergy has stated as well. I don't know for sure that it will crash the game if you don't have them, but I wouldn't doubt it one bit.

Just confirming the information you've already been given.

  5. Apollo, why is 60 fps not satisfactory?

Because I'm used to my normal 80 to 100 FPS.

    How fast is your CPU? I have a P4 1.6 Ghz and a 64-Mb GeForce 2.

    My hardware is a 2.4 GHz P4 with a GF4 Ti4400.

Ugh... Question though... are you running WinXP. Lots of people have issues with running a max of 60fps with XP. One would have to install the NVrefresh tool found on guru3d or download the latest drivers from Nvidia to overide the refresh rate to improve to >60fps...

Already did that. The configuration software allowed a maximum setting of 60 FPS when using the 3D glasses. Basically, since it has to render everything twice, this would equate to 120 FPS total from both lenses. But since the renders only appear in one lens at a time, my eyes will only interpret this as 60 fps.

I just think that in general, the 3D technology available today is far from mature. Maybe in a couple of years they will be perfected.

  6. I've tried it... the reticule issue is definitely a problem. Unfortunately, 3D viewing is far from perfected. With my GeForce 4 Ti4400, the maximum refresh rate is 60 FPS. This was not satisfactory and quite frankly gave me a headache after a while. Plus, you won't be able to run in 3D at all without a pretty decent vid card.

My only advice is to try before you buy if at all possible. That or make sure you can return them hassle-free.

  7. Set your player platoon reference like el oso suggested. The reason they aren't showing is because you are looking for Player Platoon members. That reference isn't being set to any existing platoon and thus is never activated. This small change will solve the problem.

  8. Wasn't something mentioned about Linux in the original post? Last time I checked, the drivers were available but WITHOUT support. That should have been enough info to deduce that they don't meet nVidia's quality control standards.

  9. Frankly, I don't see Weasel getting out of control. Is the idea of the US dropping it's membership ( and thus eliminating a large contributor to its budget ) so scary and radical that it MUST be driven by insane urges? You see, I believe the US has more to fear from the UN than it does from any dictatorial regime anywhere in the world. This miserable failure as a peace keeper is only a threat to the free and cooperative nations of the world.

Whether you like it or not, the US was founded with the understanding that private citizens could own firearms without the approval or knowledge of the government. This freedom and right to self-defense in face of an emergency is NOT a founding principle of the UN. In fact, this organization, which was and still is impotent in the face of Chinese, Soviet, Cuban, Iranian, Libyan, and Somalian human rights attrocities actually proposses to disarm private citizens in EVERY country around the world. Is this what America wants? Ultimately, that's what we have to decide for ourselves....and the world be damned in face of our decision!

  10. By the way, don't forget to thank Sentinel, my partner in crime, for the lovely weapons. He did a spectacular job and seems to get the short end of the stick when it comes to recognition. :(

Anyway, thanks for the encouragement, everyone. I hope you enjoy the new gametype, the bonus mission, etc.

  11. Status List:

    • Adjusted combat model making it 100% less likely to kill with a shot to the lower arm or lower leg. DONE
    • Added one complete never released BONUS mission. You are the bomb disposal unit on the Docks at night. DONE
    • SuperGrid command map overlays DONE
    • Moved enemy spawn positions to reduce chance of spontaneous generation in view of the player. DONE
    • Changed objective in mission 7 so that killing prisoners doesn't cause mission failure. DONE
    • Reset default uniform for woodland maps back to originals. DONE
    • Changed default uniforms for jungle maps to the AV Tigerstripe. DONE
    • Removed binoc kits that showed in single player. DONE

    • Kit restriction added to allow only hand thrown grenades. This will be named "No Projectile Explosives". DONE
    • NEW multiplayer gametype loosely based on Behemoth solo gametype. Control minor bases for weapon upgrades. Control main (central) base for team scoring.DONE

So it's almost ready...just need to package it up in a self-installer and distribute it!

  12. I'm so close I can taste it. Works perfectly for the first team that gets in the game. Unfortunately, it doesn't work at all for the second team. I haven't tested a 3 or 4 team scenario yet since I can't get the 2 teams working.

It's getting closer. Another missed deadline

:( . Let's say the new target release date is Sunday. I know, I know...this sucks.

  13. My original attempt wasn't wasted and was on the right track from the start. Found some easily overlooked errors that made huge differences in the way the script behaved. I can't wait to get home from work to finish up and test it again.

  14. Gametype preparations A through G were dismal failures. The latest may prove to be successful. I call it "Preparation H".

Seriously, I'm really putting in the hours on this new gametype. So you guys better play the thing!
