Violence is an intractable part of human nature. That is is misused, misdirected or just plain expressed in the media is hardly the fault of media itself. Society is to blame for washouts who go crazy and kill - unloving parents, unsupportive peers personal mental anguish and a host of other contributing factors, not any one segment of society. I saw the Matrix too and that only made me want to kill Keanu Reeves, not anybody I know (and since I didn't act on that impulse, I'm a free man and we'll have to endure two more sequels this year). We have to look at what values we teach our ki

M4/M203 - I have Trance's versiona and the snazziest looking one - the standard upgrade mod version. BTW for those of you who don't have it, the SU mod replaces standard kits with beautifully retextured US weapon models and adds a couple new ones, such as my favorite.

Although I agree the US should be more careful where its bombs fall, there is a difference. With terrorists, civilians are the intended targets and with the US, they are unfortunate accidents. Personally I think they should go to greater pains to avoid collateral damage, but it is not the same as actually targeting civilians.

Blix is set to demand Iraq hands over some missiles he found. He's gonna give thema deadline. Puts Saddam in a tough position - hand over a valuable weapon he could use to fight invaders, or possibly avert war by complying. I may be hopeful, but this is a chance for everyone to come to an agreement. If Saddam defies - and facing almost certain invasion he probably will - then the UN can say he's in full breach and endorse the US led action. France can even join in if they want. This could reunite the UN.

This has been coming a while IMO. What they're probably not letting on is that there must be a reason to suddenly up the wager. Chances are there are Qaeda cells working and hiding with Abu Sayaff, or something big is afoot and the whitehouse caught wind of it. Or possibly, to get support of the Philippine government on Iraq, the US is answering a request for more military aid in their local war on terror. Either way its a good thing.

So the UN has not been able to be all things to all people. It certainly has not lived up to America's expectations. Yet it has done a good job of nation building in Timor. Australia's military led the way, but the UN has done most of the work. Likewise, the US military [pressure] has forced Iraq to once again open up to UN inspectors - a process that most countries believe can lead to the eventual peaceful disarmament of Iraq. Recent successes count for more than past failures. If the UN were irrelevant, Bush wouldn't even have tried to work through them in the first place.

Swordfish, the argument in this forum is about the French and their role. I think most people here would support a war under certain circumstances, but the arguments these days are under which circumstances. Yes/No support for the war is hardly an issue for those who think laterally, because the answer is never so simple.

Truth is, they're just not really handsome guys.

No it wasn't the French that time. And please remember who helped America in the war of independence. Just because the French are against the war now, doesn't mean they're against America now and forever.

Good point about footing the bill. Perhaps, then, if Saddam needs to be reminded every decade or so, it is still preferable to move all those troops over there just long enough to force him into compliance and it will still be cheaper than one whole war - in dollars and lives. Given the way that boozing, cigar chugging philanderer (no, not Clinton) lives his life, I don't think he has many decades left. Sadly the Iraqi people suffer, but what price does freedom have to come at? If Saddam has WMDS that he wouldn't otherwise deploy, he might use them inside Iraq when he senses his own demis

If Saddam is going to be removed - by his own people or outside forces - there is no doubt there will be a lot of bloodshed, because his cronies won't go easily. What worries the French is whether they want to be the instigators of that bloodshed - or perhaps, the US has the right to assume that mantle. Personally, I think the UN does, but only as a group.

If they find a real arsenal of WMDs, the next step will be to see that these weapons are destroyed. If Saddam refuses to allow this, or kicks out inspectors again or whatever, then we will probably see even France lose its patience with the process. If these weapons are destroyed, then the threat from Saddam disappears and Bush can sleep better. It may yet take a process other than war, and many countries are holding out for that process. In the meantime, the hundreds of thousands of allied troops at Iraq's borders will serve as a friendly reminder that war is still the last option, thereb

Canada, like many other nations, no doubt bdoesn't see Saddam as a big enough threat to go to war over. So what if he is stalling and hiding weapons? He'd be crazy to ever use them again and he is not crazy - he's a survivor. Yes, he flouted resolutions, but breakinga few rules should not mean instant destruction. If he gets far enough out of line, then like before, these countries will probably join the fight. In the meantime they're waiting for inspections to run their course. There's nothing wrong with patience here - Saddam is not about to lash out anytime soon. For those of you w

I don't believe that the US sold ir gave chemical weapons technology to Iraq. Every major power is aware of its responsibility - for they all have enemies - to keep these nasties either locked up tight, or the means to make them under wraps. However, the US did turn a blind eye when Iraq used these weapons against Iran and its own people in the 80's. That is not the same as giving their blessing, mind you. It's mre like saying, "We don't likle it, but what the heck."

Just spent 3 hours on it. It's great. Becoming a real MP fan now. Can't wait for the SP too. The freedom of movement and realism is great. Like America's Army. I hope we see something like this in GR2. In fact, I'm sure we will, because RSE are traditionally ahead of the curve in tactical shooters and their next generation will be hot!

looking forward to vietcong. MP demo shows promise, but I wait for the reveiws for a true test of the game - after all its meat will be the SP missions. Disappointed already by the BHD demo. very much like an arcade, felt my freedom of action and choice severely limited. No crocodiles. Perhaps this should have been released on the Playstation. GTA Vice City will be cool. Got a Miami Vice era MP3 soundtrack ready and waiting for it. Still haven't played Neverwinter Nights, but its low priority. GR mod Frostbite. Raven Shield. Japan Airlines Mile High Club. Will probably n

Wait yes, but not with backs against the wall, rather with the sword of damicles hanging over saddam's head. This has successfully contained him for 12 years, why jump the gun? On the other hand if the inspectors come back and report that Saddam is hiding enough nasty suff to wipe out half the middle east, great, hopefuly all will agree to stomp him. I'm a majority rules kind of guy and all I'm suggesting is that without a resolution, the US and it's allies shouldn't dive in. If the UN takes a tougher line - all will be well. Anyway, the fireworks will start soon. When that happens, thi

I agree that France is out of hand threatening EU candidates for not backing their opinion. It's this sort of stick that the Chinese often wave when they don't want their way. "Well don't ever ask us for anything." I agree they are being just as bad as Bush now. That said, I think Chirac acquitted his own personal views well in the latest TIME interview. But the fact still stands that there has not been a proven, credible Iraqi threat to the US. Sure, Saddam's flouted his agreements but people aren't ready to fight him over it because he has failed to rearm sufficiently to pose a threat

France acted with NATO over Yugoslavia and Kosovo - as i recall, the US was reluctant to get involved in that one and it took some prodding from Blair. As a matter of fact the French have lost more peacekeepers (57) than any other country in the Balkans. Just because they won't agree with the US when it rushes into action does not mean they're not team players.
-
That may be so, but if mooning and flaunting are all he can do, most countries don't think it's worth going to war over. Saddam has been a monster in the past, but cripple by sanctioons and under UN monitoring, other countries just aren't that scared of him now. Oh yeah, and it sucks the French threatening some countries EU membership prospects, but like Bush, Chirac has always been a blunt speaker. It is well known that some wealthier countries don't want to let the poorer ones in anyway. I doubt the other key players will go along with that statement.

It would be nice to see them ditch him. Hopefully any successor will be nice to the people and play it straight with the the rest of the world.
