Just as I said it looks like a poor stunt to get laid. They can disagree with their governments, but it would be immoral to go as far as supporting Iraq in deeds or actions. That is treason. Saddam does not deserve outside help - he's still the bad guy. As for the safety concerns that is laughable. They were willing to put themselves in harm's way so long as harm didn't actullay call their bluff. Now that it seems inevitale that the bombs will start to fall, well your average Greenie might say "I support the poor victim Saddam in his stand against Western imperialism, but I'm not got to

Using "Charlie" was actually a means of personifying rather than dehumanizing the enemy, by giving him a white man's name, referring to him on human terms and showing respect. Charlie was viewed - as such a determined enemy should be - with respect and fear. In most Vietnam war movies and literature I've seen, this is the context in which Charlie appears. And I'm not sure where 'Sammies' came from as the term's origin was not made clear in BHD. Perhaps Sammy Davis Junior, the famous African American entertainer had something to do with it. Maybe it was a play on the word "Somalis". As

@ Everyone - I am not against the use of these particular weapons. I have said it twice here already. Stop lecturing me like I'm a peacenik who needs to learn the harsh realities of the world. Sorry to be so blunt but it seems that you guys are trying to create an argument where there isn't one

But it may not be banned in other countries. This is good because in my secret laboratory on a pacific volcano (live) I am currently working on a top secret project involving DNA strains salvaged from the saliva backwash in the bottom of Fosters beer cans. I can only tell you the name: Operation restore Hagi

Here's me. I take no responsibilty for actions performed by people under the assumption that I am telling the truth.

@Warhawk - suits me. I was just trying to remind some of the guys that it is in poor taste to laugh about the devestating effect of fuel air bombs and the like. I think they're a great alternative to Nukes.

I'm not defending the Rep. Guard. I'm not disputing their need to be killed in the event of hostilities. Please remember these munitions may be used on 'softer' units as well. I'm merely pointing out that we shouldn't be cheering on the bombs the waty some people seem to be. War is serious business and should not be taken lightly. As for Barbara Streisand and the rest of Hollywood, I'm sorry, I haven't been keeping up with their politics.

Space exploration is fine, but perhaps needs to yield more results at a lower cost. While NASA spends unold billions looking at the origins of the universe, people starve and states fail. Those looking for life on other planets sometimes need reminding that there is still life on Earth.

Hooray!! New ways to rob people of their precious lives!! let's cheer and shout!!!

Exactly what I was gonna say. As an education professional (adult, however not in school) I well undertsand the rules regarding personal opinion. Beacause kids tend to believe what adults tell them, a teacher's political or religious views should not be expressed because they may clash with those of the parents. Furthermore it is highly irresponsible of the teachers to bring up the current deployment and question its morality, when they must have known that some parents are service members. Children are supposed to beleive Mom and Dad are heroes and they will be easily confused if othe

Viet Cong = VC = Victor Charlie (guerillas) NVA = North Vietnamese Army = Hard Core = HC = Hotel Charlie (Soldiers) "Every day I lie in this bed I get weaker, and every day Charlie squats in the bush he gets stronger. There's only one way out for him, death or victory." Just getting in character for the upcoming game from the Hidden and Dangerous developers, called "Vietcong".

Know how you feel, Joe. But those hours are gone forever.

This seems to be the fear that many gun owners have - they don't trust their government. Even when it's gun-loving texas ranger Dubya at the helm and not namby-pamby philandering Bill and his wishy-washy democrats threatening to take your 2nd amendment rights, are you still that nervous about the government knowing you have a deadly weapon in the house? I mistrust my government on a lot of things. I doubt they'll spend my taxes wisely. I don't think they'll put enough time and money into the areas they should or promised to. I don't think they work very hard. But I never fear for a seco

Actually, 300Mag, I didn't mean that all members of the NRA are rednecks, just that the ones after Brady might be. In hindsight, it is unreasonable to accuse even a lerge chunk of them of being rednecks because A) they come from precisely the cross section you described and B) membership shows that they are willing to submit to some form of self regulation as gun owners. My bad - the real rednecks probably wouldn't be so legit. And yes, Warhawk it was at dig at the but further discussion of that doesn't belong here. I was merely drawing a parallel: If countries have to be honest about th

I don't really believe it's about oil on either side. After the war, all countries will benefit from new oil contracts, because the embargoes and limits will be lifted. But if all they (the US or France) wanted was oil, they could restart the trade tomorrow.

Don't think they love Saddam any more than Bush. It's not a crime yet not to be a Republican, although I'm sure Ashcroft is working on it. That said, if Rosie O'Donnel did go to Iraq as a human sheild she'd offer...ahem...wide protection.

@necron thanx for clearing up the gas thing. And I meant KSC, but I've been away from Japan a year now, so I forgot.

they shouted "banzai." They still do in parliament meetings. They can be weird sometimes.

Case in point: Here is one of the gallant human shields from the news links that Rocky posted in this thread. Tell me this guy isn'y hoping to get a little action from some grungy white female human shield with dirty hair. Where's the nookie?

Americans, particularly the Republicans, like to take credit for "winning" the cold war but in truth, they just outlasted the enemy. Sure the space-race bankrupted Russia, but they didn't have to play ball if they didn't choose. It was their dumb decision. The fact is - and China's peaceful transition from communism to a kind of National Socialism shows this - that communism simply didn't work. Look at North Korea. On the placards, have to agree with their point.
-
Have to agree. These people don't understand the realities of the world, they're just chasing sloagans around the globe in a kind of self-righteous eco-fashion frenzy. They don't have to agree with their government but that hardly makes Saddam the good guy. In this case, they're definitley siding with the enemy. That is entirely different from the noble, yet often annoying, conscientious objection.

Come on, there has to be an easier way for them to get laid. Make up a story about having a high-paying job, wear a baggy shirt and claim to be an artist, whatever. I'm not passionate enough to want toi harm them myself, but I have no sympathy for them if they guard enemy military installations and get carpet-bombed. Just means more nookie for me back home. (the word is unpopularity)
