the Navy seems to be more open about its special operations components, at least in the sense of advertisement and publicity. Why? Who knows. We don't need to. All we, the public, need to know, is that the SOF community is busily working on behalf of our nation's interests.
Aaaw stop now, Para I'm getting all teary...

im an idiot i dont mean the seals were involved i mean that delta was involved

Mark Bowden who wrote the factual Black Hawk Down also wrote Killing Pablo which documented Delta's role. Eric L Haney wrote Inside Delta Force and he should know - he was one of them.

Man down....again!

This should sound familiar...
Oslan Djakovic took a long drag from his Turkish cigarette and looked up at the sky over the Ossetian mountains. It was crisp and cool at this altitude but the late afternoon sun warmed his face. He scanned the vista in front of his foxhole. The lightly wooded slope drew away below, while to his left rocky crags loomed and climbed away into the mountainside. His job was to watch the apporach to the caves where his rebel commander was holding court. He didn't expect much trouble this day.
Will Jacobs thumbed the safety off his M29 and looked through the trees to his left and right. Ibrahim the sniper turned from the scope on his Baret .50 caliber sniper rifle and winked. It was said no man had been in Ibrahim's sights and lived to tell of it. Jacobs' support squad consisted of Gordon, with an M203 grenade launcher slung under his M16 and Munz, the seconded German with his powerul MG3 machine gun. The runners would be himself, Ramirez with a suppressed M4 and Cohen with another hi-tech M29. They were the Ghosts - Fifth Special Forces - the cocked fist of america's military might.
Jacobs signalled for the squad to get into place. Ibrahim began to crawl up the slope to get a vantage point over the foxhole. Gordon and Munz moved slightly forward and trained their weapons on the bunker a hundred meters ahead. Jacobs and his assault team got ready for the support team to lay down cover fire. he squinted for movement in the darkened foxhole.
Oslan spied movement in the trees ahead. Throwing down his cigarette he sprung to his feet and shouldered his rusty old AK47. He had always been afraid of fighting but would do his bit for the cause. He only wished they'd given him something better than this vintage Kalashnikov, with which he normally missed four out of five shots in target practice. Planning to flush out the intruder - probably just a deer foraging - he squeezed the triger and loosed a round into the trees.
Jacobs heard a dull slap and saw Munz slump forward in a pool of blood. Dammit! He thought. I always lose my gunners before they get off a shot! "Go, go go!" he mouthed as a few more shots came from the foxhole ahead.
Oslan only had a few clips and had to conserve ammo. He thought he could almost see bodies in army green moving now, but he wasn't sure. He pulled the trigger methodically, letting off a round each second into the trees.
Gordon stepped forward and prepared to launch a grenade at the bunker before he fell forward with a bullet in the head. Jacobs saw that Ibrahim was crawling into position when shots started slamming into the ground around him. One, two, three and a fourth thudding into his thigh. He kept crawling as a fifth slammed into his side. The sixth caught him in the side of the head and he went still.
Leading his two remaining Ghosts out of the trees, Jacobs led a charge for the boulder downslope to their left. They needed cover from the deadly volley of fire coming from this expert marksman. They took about three steps each when Cohen grimaced "I'm hit!". Jacobs turned to see her limping toward them just as a second bullet took her helmet clean off and she fell to the grass dead. Ramirez and Jacobs kept running until they reached the rock.
"Okay you lay cover fire from the right of this boulder while I run up from the left!"
Jacobs snapped.
"Roger" The green beret answered and rolled out, shouldered his weapon and aimed in the direction of the foxhole. Jacobs saw something hurtling through the air toward them as he started running up the left flank and heard a grenade explode behind him. Ramirez's rifle came hurtling out of the sky and landed at his feet. The hand was still attached.
Jacobs was closing on the bunker however, and still hidden by the trees. He switched his OICW to full auto and continued the charge. Before he left the treeline however he was cut in half by a burst of 7.62mm hard jacket rounds. He slumped forward and wondered with his dying breath, "Where did we go wrong? We're the best of the best...."
Oslan reloaded his rifle and scanned the terrain again. He couldn't see anyone out there. Probably just a deer he thought. He hoped the clip he fired and the grenade he wasted had scared whatever it was away. The sky was clear, the birds were chirping. The sun was a little lower and cooler than a minute ago. He lit another cigarette and waited for his change of shift.

I found out why the dude on the cover is screaming. he just looked back in the heat of battle and realized the whole AI team got waxed without firing a shot...
Le plus ca change....

Dudes I can't get in. Made an account and tried to access 'classic' and I keep getting blank screens.

That would be a laugh if the army aren't going with the m8: GR1 assumes the OICW will be implemented - and it was just a pipe dream. The M8 makes it into GR2 - file it under the same!
More fancy gimmicks for the XBox kiddies....

Naaah apparently they'll use this for 'all terrain'

I gotta agree with Chems; That box is a bad omen even if it's just a prototype. It says a lot about the direction of the game: The individual as opposed to the team, action over stealth-action, futuristic projections over modern realities and just a younger, louder type of gamer being targeted. I know this is the way military shooters are going (with the exception of BIA and Close Combat perhaps) but this was not supposed to be the direction of the GR franchise.

Anyone know why they are changing the helmet too??
This one looks like it offers less protection..
The new helmet is the one you see specops guys such as Green Berets and Airforce Pararescue guys wearing these days - although they usually have the olive-drab kevlar painted over with beige for desert camo rather than a BDU covering. It's supposed to be toughher and harder and it's smaller to reduce annoyances like bumping into stuff.

I don't think there was anywhere else he could go. he honestly had no friends inside the Arab world or out of it. Except maybe N. Korea. I'd choose the spider hole too.

I thought that both the tommy gun and the M3A1 were .45

Dunno how useful it was tactically as it was very heavy, had a slow ROF and only carried a 20 rnd box clip. Basically though what he said
, a predecessor of the SAW for the platoon's 'automatic rifleman'. -
Since North Korea doesn't even allow its citizens to play games (those pitiful few who are allowed/can afford computers anyway), they shouldn't be allowed to comment on the subject.

Nice to see he's finally being made to account for his crimes. Interesting to note also that he's still a ######

Well it's perfectly legal and one could argue that these troops are needed. However it's not gonna help win the election in the short term.

Dunno what's wroing with the Iranians. they surely don't want the Iraq mess to spill over and harassing coalition troops is like poking a bear with a stick. Maybe the local commander just got a little bold.

Eric L Haney's Inside Delta Force for the second time this year. Really good storyteller and a great story about the early days of the unit.
Al Franken's Lies and Lying Liars Who Tell Them. An unbalanced, but well researched and humorous look at American politics today

Wait you mean GR2 won't have mutants and plasma rifles either? Damn....

Yeah that first press release was an urban prototype or just brightened up because of camera flash. If you look at some of the other links in this thread you'll see it is actually quite brown and would suit woodland or urban rubble well, but I think it might be too dark for the desert. That said, if the troops will keep wearing woodland flakjackets then the desert camo is rendered ineffective anyway, so what's the difference? I guess SpecOps will keep some other desert camo for deep cover etc..

Exactly how quiet are weapons like the MP5SD compared to a suppressed M4? I mean in real terms, not decibels: what would they sound like? I read in a Clancy book that the bolt moving is noisier than the discharge of the MP5; How quiet could an M4 be? What would the sound compare to?
