Exactly how quiet are weapons like the MP5SD compared to a suppressed M4? I mean in real terms, not decibels: what would they sound like? I read in a Clancy book that the bolt moving is noisier than the discharge of the MP5; How quiet could an M4 be? What would the sound compare to?

Mark Bowden who wrote the factual Black Hawk Down also wrote Killing Pablo which documented Delta's role. Eric L Haney wrote Inside Delta Force and he should know - he was one of them.

Is there a novel on Ghost Recon 2?
budgie replied to Overseer's topic in GR (PC) - General Discussion
This should sound familiar... Oslan Djakovic took a long drag from his Turkish cigarette and looked up at the sky over the Ossetian mountains. It was crisp and cool at this altitude but the late afternoon sun warmed his face. He scanned the vista in front of his foxhole. The lightly wooded slope drew away below, while to his left rocky crags loomed and climbed away into the mountainside. His job was to watch the apporach to the caves where his rebel commander was holding court. He didn't expect much trouble this day. Will Jacobs thumbed the safety off his M29 and looked through the t -

That would be a laugh if the army aren't going with the m8: GR1 assumes the OICW will be implemented - and it was just a pipe dream. The M8 makes it into GR2 - file it under the same! More fancy gimmicks for the XBox kiddies....

Naaah apparently they'll use this for 'all terrain'

I gotta agree with Chems; That box is a bad omen even if it's just a prototype. It says a lot about the direction of the game: The individual as opposed to the team, action over stealth-action, futuristic projections over modern realities and just a younger, louder type of gamer being targeted. I know this is the way military shooters are going (with the exception of BIA and Close Combat perhaps) but this was not supposed to be the direction of the GR franchise.

The new helmet is the one you see specops guys such as Green Berets and Airforce Pararescue guys wearing these days - although they usually have the olive-drab kevlar painted over with beige for desert camo rather than a BDU covering. It's supposed to be toughher and harder and it's smaller to reduce annoyances like bumping into stuff.

I don't think there was anywhere else he could go. he honestly had no friends inside the Arab world or out of it. Except maybe N. Korea. I'd choose the spider hole too.

I thought that both the tommy gun and the M3A1 were .45

Dunno how useful it was tactically as it was very heavy, had a slow ROF and only carried a 20 rnd box clip. Basically though what he said , a predecessor of the SAW for the platoon's 'automatic rifleman'.

Since North Korea doesn't even allow its citizens to play games (those pitiful few who are allowed/can afford computers anyway), they shouldn't be allowed to comment on the subject.

Well it's perfectly legal and one could argue that these troops are needed. However it's not gonna help win the election in the short term.

Iran seizes 3 UK Royal Navy vessels and crew
budgie replied to tyovan4's topic in Real World Military
Dunno what's wroing with the Iranians. they surely don't want the Iraq mess to spill over and harassing coalition troops is like poking a bear with a stick. Maybe the local commander just got a little bold. -
Eric L Haney's Inside Delta Force for the second time this year. Really good storyteller and a great story about the early days of the unit. Al Franken's Lies and Lying Liars Who Tell Them. An unbalanced, but well researched and humorous look at American politics today

Wait you mean GR2 won't have mutants and plasma rifles either? Damn....

Yeah that first press release was an urban prototype or just brightened up because of camera flash. If you look at some of the other links in this thread you'll see it is actually quite brown and would suit woodland or urban rubble well, but I think it might be too dark for the desert. That said, if the troops will keep wearing woodland flakjackets then the desert camo is rendered ineffective anyway, so what's the difference? I guess SpecOps will keep some other desert camo for deep cover etc..
