okay I use xfire and I try to join another persons game but it just says "unable to connect unknown"

I have ghost recon 1 (no other expansions to it) and I want to play multiplayer but whenever I go onto the "internet join" it doesn't show 1 game and shows my I.P as 0.000.0000 or something along those lines. I tried "playing through ubi" but whenever I go to use it the log in gets a error and doesn't join, I was wondering how can I join a multiplayer game? Do I need anything like mods to play ?
