  1. oh! sorry night crawler happy B-day for yesterday. thats from zeealice she had some issues logging in.
  2. AMD recommends a 400w PSU for it to run but ive heard of people running the card on 250w easily, so should i risk it i always thought they boosted the requirements a bit to prevent too many warranty claims. an HD 4550 draws 25w when 350w is required compared to the 5450's 20w draw and its 400w requirement it doesnt make sense. im looking at the lo pro version with no 6 pin requirement, on of those plug in a play types. thanks for any advice i just want it future proof for at least 6 months i have a 300w PSU if you didnt guess.
  3. thanks i figured out it's a rare prototype of the 4770 model and it doesnt fit in my PC
  4. ooooohhhh i dont like those roads, how many people have fallen off the edge?
  5. i know it's ATI HD 4750 but what are its power requirements and how do i wire it up? oh what are it's specs too? my friend gave it to me and he said it's been sitting in a cupboard for a while. anyway if you could give me any information at all about this card great its the DVI,VGA,S-video one if that helps.
  6. thanks anthony, i'll give you a shout if i need any i usually need the dvi cable for dual monitor.
  7. thanks guys the RAM was seated great roco, thanks for the advice though. lil got back from hospital yesterday and the first thing she asked, was "did you plug the DVI cable into it?" and i answered yes and she said that, the dvi cable was faulty and she had been through many GFX cards because of that one cable, she was meant to dispose of it but she didnt get around to it. we'll get our ATI card hopefully soon.
  8. okay i'll try and ask lil when she is out if she knows anyone willing to let me borrow one, i'll think i'll go for ATI next time they seem to have better cards for cheaper.
  9. well, i turned my PC on this afternoon,, nothing abnormal to report, then while in windows mode, the top of my screen went all weird and "broken up" i couldnt access control panel or the event viewer to see what went wrong, i tried plugging my T.V into it and no response from it, i tried restarting it and the PC posted with1 long beep 2 short beeps wich is in my books a graphic card or monitor failure, but is it a graphic card failure or a monitorfailure, just incase i replace something perfectly fine.
  10. i saw that advertised, they said windows XP was going to be supported until 2014 but this is only for vista and 7, somewhat doubtful about compatability. bah! it just gives me another reason to install windows7 tomorrow.
  11. hhhmmm i found went something like that happened it was my motherboard or, the card isnt seated right open it up and push the card down a little more and see if there is a response. its best to do that when the PC is off and unplugged but it might not be that, it could be something totally different.
  12. yeah i was hoping to buy a few new sticks of RAM but i'll wait until lilly is at home and with me, i dont do anything inside the PC until she is around even though she has told me numerous times to just buy it and put it in, dont wait for her. as for the XP/ 7 thing i understand that the 64 bit version of XP is rather unstable and has compatability issues. so i was going to put 7 on tonight, but it looks like i'll have to do it tomorrow or thursday, installing an operating system is something i can do without lil but it's too late and the computer has to be shut off around 9 o clock due to cooling issues.
  13. the PC is capable of either but looking at the requirements im unsure, what do you think Machine name: HAVOK Operating System: Windows XP Home Edition (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 2 (2600.xpsp_sp2_rtm.040803-2158) Language: English (Regional Setting: English) System Manufacturer: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. System Model: GA-MA770-UD3 BIOS: Award Modular BIOS v6.00PG Processor: AMD Phenom II X2 550 Processor, MMX, 3DNow (2 CPUs), ~3.1GHz Memory: 2046MB RAM Page File: 707MB used, 3232MB available Windows Dir: C:\WINDOWS DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904) DX Setup Parameters: Not found DxDiag Version: 5.03.2600.2180 32bit Unicode DX10 compatible NVIDIA card (soon to be DX11 compatible ATI card) oh another thing, i am crap with computers, i leave the computer side of things to Lil but when it says "2 CPUS" ~ 3.1GHZ does it mean both cores are running that speed or do the two core speeds add up to that?
