When I was with Tactical Gamer we where working on version 3 of the TG mod in which Sarc was adding a "porta bush." Yes, it is exactly what it sounds like and it would be perfect for this.
I haven't seen him around in a while but he has a profile here so you may be able to get in touch with him through that. If not I can poke around and see where he is.
I also created a grid overlay system that makes it simple as hell to add overlays that have faded inner coordinates that show up nicely when you zoom in map (see sig for link). These would be a necessity for something like this since you should be going with no threat indicator AND disable the bad guys showing up on the map. Make that spotter really work for his supper.

Has anyone mentioned modding tools yet?

-
Thanks, that was a great reply, you have given me alot to think about.

I recently had a chance to test my mission in multiplayer and found 2 bugs that do not keep the mission from ending successfully, but I wanted to fix anyways. I was also going to add a few more missions to end the storyline.
Here is my dilemna, while I think my work is definately worthy of the download and a must have for any GR fan, it does not seem to have gotten the attention, I feel it deserved.
The post on the front page was mediocre (no offense) compared to those "MUST HAVE THIS MOD" posts and the # of downloads wasn't quite what I expected. It does not seem to have caught the publics interest and I am thinking I must have missed the mark somewhere.
I do realize with GR2 on the way and GR so old, interest has died down, especially for "new" modders, but if something is good, it's good, right?
So, is it worth my time and effort? I apologize if this sounds like a plug or something, I am very sincere and a bit frustrated.

Have you thought about making it more like the movie (since you did such a good job recreating it anyways) and making the base in the middle of a large open expanse? Maybe using some rocky outcroppings?
Man I am really wanting to make some missions for this!
-
It really captures that look and feel of Starship Troopers. Very close to the original base of idiots in the first that thought they would be safe holing up behind that lil wall. Excellent, excellent.

You know what...we don't care about the progress, we just get wet at the fact you are finishing the mod! MOISTURE!!!!
Ok, it's nice to know what kind of progress you are making, but I can't help but just be excited you are finishing a project of this magnitude. If you need any help.......aw who am I kidding, I don't know crap.
Good luck!

I don't think my work is in the league of some of these others, but if you want a submersive, story driven experience, I think I accomplished that in Operation Take Back.
It features,
No new maps,
No new weapons,
No new skins (well one),
No new kits,
Only one mission for a 36 meg download.
Some people think that 36 megs is alot for the one mission it contains, but that is the price you pay for depth. I believe it's worth it. I may finish the remaining missions, which would only be a few kb download.
The link is in my sig.
Has anyone mentioned Ossetian Woodlands yet? Or Tactical Gamer 3 mod?
-
Do you have bodies turned off? There are alot of dead people in the mission.
-
Hey when i play there is an extreme amount of lag like every shot takes a long time. does anybody else havet hat problem??? great mission though!!
This is the first time I have heard of anyone having this problem. I know there are alot of enemies in certain parts of the mission, obviously the first question would be system specs. The lowest lvl pc I have tested the mission on was a 1.2 athlon, 512 megs sdram and a gf3, with little to no problems. I went to great lengths to make sure there was never too many enemies at once, but I really pushed it at the end.
Thanks for the compliment, I worked hard on it.

Operation Take Back What a shamefully blatant plug. I feel disgusted with myself, now go play it!

Looking at avatar, needs some blemish cream. Kind of scares me.

What gets me is, the fact that GR would not be what it is today, if it weren't for all the modders out there making it a fresh experience for so many years. The console versions would never have happened if not for the success of the game based on pc sales. The console versions came much later than the pc titles and were lacking.
Here we are years later, Ubi has enjoyed the money, success, and large numbers of sales from the original campaign and 2 expansions. They have a large modding community constantly pimping the game and basically driving up sales.
How do they reward the community that made the franchise such a success. They put us last AND keep their mouths shut about what, if anything, we are going to see for the pc.
To me this means a few things, Ubi sucks (someone asked how anyone could know Ubi doesn't give a rat's behind about the customers, there you go) and I am very disappointed. When the game is released I will be last in line, if I am in line at all. Thank god for half life 2. They already have a great network in place for modding and modding support. That is before even releasing the tools to do the modding!
DONT BITE THE HAND THAT FEEDS YOU UBI!
I realize this post seems sort of negative, but remember, I am only complaining about one aspect of the entire dilemna. I really enjoyed GR and brought it to quite a few communities, not to mention modding for it myself out of a love for the teamwork the game promoted. I think it was this level of commitment to the game and the company that gave it to us, that makes the GR2 debacle hit that much closer to home.
Thanks for letting me vent.

@eternal--Yeah, what I mean about the storyline is a situation that happens, like IT was guarding elections in Cuba. Once I get a place and reason for the Ghosts being at that place I can come up with good missions. The objectives for the first mission are: 1. Blow Up A Railroad Bridge, 2. Capture A Train Station, 3. Rescue Hostages, 4. Get Map of Enemy Plans. I can always put this mission somewhere else in the campaign. I had a mission planned for the BARRICADES mao, but don't want to say what it is.
I'm not the best with geography so I have a hard time thinking of a place for it to be set.BrandonKappel

Considering the objectives you have stated it seems like it would be cool if you used a story line telling the players they have an idea the terrorists are holding up in this lil hideaway. The ghosts have to first, cut off all avenues of retreat (that would be obj's 1, 2) After you are sure the enemy can not escape you can have them go in to rescue any hostages, gather intel, and if possible, take out the bad guys. Make up the location. It doesn't HAVE to be a real place. As a matter of fact, it's easier on mission scripters if it is fake. No one can argue with your facts if it lives in your head.

I am not the best at coming up with a story line, all I have so far is it will once again be the Ghosts vs. Terrorists. The maps are woodland. All I could think of is for it to be set in Russia, but that is boring. Would anybody be willing to help me come up with a better storyline? All it needs to be is Ghost vs. Terrorists in a woodland enviroment, where the main population looks like the actors in the original first GR campaign.
I could probably come up with a decent storyline for you but it would help if you told us what the objectives are for the first mission, since it's complete. Unless you want to keep it a secret. I just finished my first mod, so I feel your pain.
Looking at the map you posted and keeping in mind you want a terrorists vs. ghosts campaign, we see the map is basically a few buildings in the middle of nowhere. I would suggest starting with something stating the ghosts are being sent in to investigate a potential terrorist stronghold, maybe hideout would be better terminology, considering the locale. That gives the where and why.
You could have them try to "capture" a specific terrorist, then make him get away. That would lead into your next map and mission, as the ghosts would now be chasing him. Once you get a good plot in your head the missions write themselves.
Hope this helps.

I have just plain GR1 with no patches or updates or whatever, because when I tried downloading patches last year, it screwed my computer up, and since then I lost internet on that computer. Does this mission require any of that stuff? It seems like most mods do, but I do have that one (I forget what it's called) that uses only maps included with game except for one which is set in daytime but came as night.
I used elements from all the expansions so they are reqiured.
Sorry. Now that I think back I could have done it with just the GR stuff and a little editing. Hindsight, as they say, is always 20/20.

If anyone hosts this on a server can they send me a p.m. or something? I would really just like to watch. Yeah, I am dirty that way.

-
BTW - for any mac gamers out there that would like to play it, i have converted it (sound conversion) and uploaded it to a server /missions/OpTakeBack.sit]HERE, or you can find it at MacGamingMods.com in the Ghost Recon section.
Thanks for the Mac conversion. I would have done it myself, but to be honest, had no idea how, or what was involved.
All this mod needs now, is some front page pimpage on gr.net!

Played this a few times......
Its like its own little world of a mission, me likey.
A few things i dislike are........ the command map tangos are overridden, even if i would like it to use the Alpha Squad MOD with higher priority.
If i use this mod on other missions where players need the information of friendly units on the map, it would be impossible to locate them cause they wont show up.
Dont get me wrong, i actually like the people arent yelling out vague information about "CHECK MAP". Your idea does help players try to give out more accurate information. I just dont know if his option should be forced onto players.
Some people complaiined of the downloading being to big for 1 mission, but i told them its worth it.
Other than that i think the mission is great, and would love to see the other authors finish their missions as well, so this mod gets more play.
Thanks, you make some good points.
The issue that makes the tangoes invisible is easily solved. Go here (with default GR install) C:\Program Files\Red Storm Entertainment\Ghost Recon\Mods\Operation Take Back\Shell\Art and delete the cmi.rsb, this will allow the original GR file to load and show enemies on map. I should probably include that in the readme but I never liked how easy it was for players with tangoes popping up. Unfortunately the way the game is made you can't distinguish between friend or foe, as it's the same graphic. As far as locating, or sharing tango, friendly locations, don't forget I used a grid overlay on the command map, to make up for the lack of the enemy locater. This helps to enforce teamplay, imho, rather than just everyone running around looking at the map for red blips.
I do apologize about the size, vs. the content. There was supposed to be a 3 mission campaign, but it appears the others bailed on me. If feedback and the need is great enough, I will make the others myself. As you can tell if you play the mission, I put ALOT of work into it expecting a full campaign. The size was necessary to get the feel I wanted. It's mostly sound files.
The next mission I am doing is going to be huge because of the ambiance I am trying to produce, using mostly sound, but again should be worth it. In this day and age I don't really see a 30 meg download as being too big for a mission.
The feedback so far has been great. Seeing as it's my first mission I am learning just as much from your opinions/feedback as I am from making the mod.
-
Thank you for your suggestions, I will definately look into each one. I really appreciate anyone who takes the time to leave feedback.
If you deactivate the mod, then restart GR there should be no reason the cursor remains. I am not sure why you would have that problem, or why you would want to uninstall the mod.

I have been wanting a good zombie style mod forever. Ever since the Resident Evil mod got scrapped, I've been blue balled.
Nothing would be more fun than to be playing an HX4 Defend type mission dug in some house at night in a creepy atmosphere with a buddy try to survive a massive onslaught of zombies. (Talk about a run-on!)
Bring 'em on!

The mod is nothing but ambiance. I want it to be all about the feel not the shooting. With luck I wont have to sacrifice to many of my ideas for lack of the engines capabilities. In the meantime download my Operation Tack Back mission and prepare to be amazed!!!
-
Come on guys, you have to play it. It's the only option you have since GR2 is only on x-boxofcrap.

I need feedback!
-
Here is a preview of what I am working on next.

Here is a campaign in progress I finished a while back. I call it that because there are multiple missions, I am just waiting on the others to be finished by some friends. I have my doubts they will ever get them done, so I am releasing what I have, so I can move on. When/if the other missions in the story line are released it will be a very small download since all the necessary files are in this one.
This mission was made with some very serious players in mind. It will be extremely difficult in single player, but not impossible. I intended it for the hardcore GR guys you would find playing coop at The Gamer Planet or Tactical Gamer.
Operation Take Back Fileplanet Download
Please leave me some feedback, the mission got little, to no playtesting.
Thank you.
p.s. Rocky I pm'ed you a few times regarding this release but never got a response. I feel shunned.
