  1. After some more research, I've found several vital uncertainties. Some oems install hardware which cannot run anything before Vista. I can't say if Vista can run 3ds in XP mode; is there a difference between installing in compatible and running in compatible? I'll find out eventually I guess.

However, my friend is already learning it. I'm dreaming of a total conversion. Think people will still play GR in 2011? :hehe:

  2. Hey Oso thanks for for the testimony. I don't think I want to partition as I don't have a lot of space to expand. And that compatibility thing--I totally forgot about that but I figured it wouldn't matter with Vista anyway. Might try it again when I get the chance. With my luck even if I did want to partition, some asinine limitaion will arise I'm sure. Someday I'll buy a real computer.

So I'm going to try the extra HD solution. As soon as I have the courage.

  3. My buddy is a draftsman. I was telling him about GR modding and he scored a copy of 3dsm5 from work! They don't use the software anymore and they just gave it to him. w00t

We gave it a go on my Vista, but of course I don't think it will ever run on it. However, I can also get XP and another HD from him.

I was wondering if anyone knows if that will work or if anyone does that? Put 3ds and XP on the extra drive--would I still be able to export to GR on the other drive???

  4. I just "forwarded the port". Seemed to go off without a hitch.

The port? Just in case, there are three. 2346, 2347 and 2348, TCP.

Yeah, i allowed 2346-2348, but we were playing thru 2346 already. And then I think I activated them for UDP as well? I don't even know what that means yet.

My server is still not appearing for my friend. Used my new static ip and everything. Maybe it's something with his system?

It's funny that while this was happening I was uploading to him on a file share client. Maybe that has something to do with it?

    ?

  6. Hey guys thanks. A little surprised this hasn't come up before with the R6 series blending in. I'll give it a shot. It does seem near impossible though.

You know what just popped in my head? Active Denial System. I bet that could be doable somehow, ya think?

  7. 5. MAN, DO WE SUCK! Buddy has a habit of standing right behind be and bumping me just as a tango rounds the corner. We don't have VOIP yet and he doesn't text chatter much, me all the time. And he never listens! Of course I'm not sure what to do anyways, especially with respawns/no a.i. backup. Where can I learn realistic tactics and commands on the web? We're used to fun n gun, no discipline at all.

Realistic tactics? US Army Field Manual 7-8 Infantry Rifle Platoon and Squad. Very good reading to help expand tactical understanding and gameplay in GR.

As for commands, are you referring to single player and AI Backup in Coop?

Hey THANKS Mark!! By commands I guess I meant call outs, so no issue there. I'll do some more research. Besides, I've never been in combat (I mean online)(or other) so when I get there I'll learn. Thanks for the lead.

As for the other stuff, computer logic falls into a class of disciplines I hitherto abhorred. Thus, the stupid posts. Like the router thing. I just noticed the pinned headers in this forum and realized I'd configured one before--and then quickly forgot all about it. It's not that I don't respect technological acumen; I'm just hyper-creative and ADD. To me most things about computers evoke contempt and fear, like fire to a caveman. Slowly I am trying to change that. When I can't act at the speed of thought I get very frustrated!

  8. Found Pt.1 of Domen's guide. Then I re-scanned the Igor read me. It's foggy now, much better than total darkness.

Now about the connection. He can't see the status of my ip when I am try to host-i.e. says unknown status, thus he can't join the game I've setp. I figured it would be a router issue. My modem has wireless, so I take it that means it an has internal router. Dannik, I'm going to try to find access sometime this week after referencing the forums here. I'm on Vista, if there's anything you could suggest in general knowledge please fell free. Like if I could potentially screw it up. I'm hesitant doing things like this. Muchos gracias...

Oh and yeah I think I get the last bit about the server browser. Without Ubi or a client like X-fire you have to know the ip's you want to join and manually enter them. But yeah I miss alot of small things hehe so thanks for being thorough.

  9. So much data, so little time.

    1. Link to pt. 1 of the Advanced Igor tutorial??? 10 pages into a search and nothing!

    2. My buddy and I started playing GR online. He has Cable, I have DSL. He can host; when I am on server it doesn't show on his menu. ???Reference for that???

    3. Where do I get info on understanding scripting outside of taking classes???

    4. Kits. My buddy, he just has to have a sniper rifle. But I want to have help clearing buildings, and help with tanks on missions. Once you edit a kit in Igor, is it overwritten? And if just one of us has said kit, will it work co-op online?

I didn't want to hit that save button without knowing.

  10. Thanks for the lead. I know there has to be some kinda obscure directory...

And yes it has search function--just for show.

New missions you create with IGOR should be located in a subdirectory of your Ghost Recon folder. The default location for missions created with IGOR is "C:\Program Files\Red Storm Entertainment\Ghost Recon\Mods\Mp2\Mission" (unless you have manually specified another location), and the files you are looking for will have the extension ".mis".

As for Vista, I don't know for sure (because I wouldn't touch that system with a ten-foot pole anymore), but I remember that it used to just place new user-created game content inside your personal folder. If I recall correctly, there should be a "My Games" folder or something, which would in turn contain stuff belonging to various games. But I could be completely wrong on this, because none of Vista's features made any sense to me, whatsoever.

When i search ".mis" it returns every single .mis file, except the ones I made that Igor is telling me are in the folder you specified. (Igor's file directory shows it, Vistas doesn't. Simultaneously.) I just know it's something simple. Vista is remarkable at making simple concepts rigorously obtuse.

Heh. Finally got a search return. To a shortcut. The shortcut is in that AppData directory. When I find file location, it takes me to...the MP2 mission folder, where it is not. It's totally Heisenburg.

Hah. So windows tells me the shortcut is broke, and fixes it for me. Then shows me the .mis file in the "Virtual Store" directory. So i cut/copy to MP2/Mission, and now it shows up!

Still isn't in the game, but I'm getting closer.

Ohh god. I'm an idiot. Didn't have mission properties set. My apologies. :wall:

    GR.net rules anyway!
