  1. The build up to GR 2 included talk about the fullsome squad command system which turned out to be bunk. I don't care if the console game has a worthless arcade squad system, I do want the PC game to have a very good one. It is almost a foregone conclusion that GR 3 will not have 3 squads, character switching or waypoint pathfinding. It will very likely be 1 character with 1 squad. if the game is to have any tactical resemblance to GR, the squad orders must be very robust and precise to give precise control over, preferably, each man in the squad. Bringing back the ROE is a very good step t
  2. Forget the ###### doing the presentation, it was the demo that raises my concerns. If this is indicative of the Xbox gameplay only, then fine, but, this is garbage. This is the very same thing as GR 2, with much better graphics. There is no squad control whatsoever or any apparent tactical use of the squad. As far as I can see, they're just an appendage like in GR 2. The tracers look rediculous, the reticle is absolutely useless. If this is indicative of the gameplay, then it's just another arcade game like FTF. None of the gaming sites included GR 3 as a notable game in their E3
  3. On the Grin website, they make the point that they are not going to host a forum because they are reading forums at Ubi and here.
  4. In terms of gameplay, the most important thing to me are the weapons and the squad command system. The key to the squad command is the defensive-offensive mode. I want to either send 1 man forward to recon or recon myself. Once the enemy is found, I want the choice to find an alternative route to the objective without engaging or flank the enemy and set up a crossfire ambush. For that to work, you need a robust order system and control over each man. Games like BIA and FTF have ruined the gameplay by making the weapons inaccurate and ineffective in order to simulate the realism under fir

  6. What exactly is Grin developing? Why would they be building everything from scratch. Isn't the game itself basically the same as the 360 game - urban squad combat set in Mexico City? Would they use the same basic maps, player models and textures, weapon models, textures and sounds, skyboxes, etc. If all of these have or are being built, is it not more of a job of incorporating elements particular to the pc platform to these common elements. Or are they in fact building everything from the ground up? If they are building large maps for the Xbox, would it not be more cost effective to adapt the
  7. I have only been playing SP till Monday, when I tried coop. This game is perfect for coop when you have a team oriented group. I played with some guys from the UK and we really played like a team, everyone followed orders, very very cool. Really rocks in coop.
  8. There is no question that there are many acts of kindness and courage that are never reported. There are no stories about the rebuilding of Iraq. The problem with network news is that there is only 5 minutes to allot to the entire subject of Iraq. If there are 4 suicide bombings, 2 car bombings, 5 IED's, 7 drive by shootings, 1 assasination, 2 American fatalities, 13 Iraqi fatalities, what are they going to report in that 5 minutes. What is the real story? The entire country appears to be a chaotic mess, the level of the insurgency is the same or higher than it was a year ago, they seem to hav
  9. Looks like another console production to me.

    2 Days to Vegas

If you can couple this with integrated support for mouse and keyboard, internet and e-mail, live voice, then it will finish pc gaming. It will then remain to be seen if game developers can make mature, intelligent games.
  11. RSE could, if they were allowed.
  12. If GR 3 is built primarily for next gen consoles, it will probably be ported to pc, which may not be all bad. Given the disappointing game design of Brothers In Arms and Close Combat First To Fight, there isn't a lot of real thought going into designing a good tactical combat shooter. If GR 3 fails to fit the bill, then I am temporarily out of alternatives. As far as I'm concerned, games like BF2 do not interest me bcause they are just t vs t gametypes and too arcade, a game for me has to have all 3 elements, a strong SP campaign, coop and adversarial. There just aren't any titles on the h
  13. God, what a year, first BIA, now this. These were 2 of the 3 tactical games I had high hopes for. Now I have to hold out for GR 3. I read a post that said the Marines who worked on the game as advisors were not happy with the release, that they had ignored a lot of their suggestions and left stuff out of the game. When are these game devs gonna learn how to make a good game?
  14. If you are using Nero, there is a difference between burning music cds and burning music as a data cd for backup. Nero has a drag and drop window, and burns faster than WMP. Edited
  15. Given the quality of Xbox games, who would want to?
  16. What is to stop history from repeating itself? All resources will be put to getting GR 3 console out by Christmas, possibly to the point of stopping production of the pc game. Then, more resources are needed to make a console expansion and downloadable content. Will making a pc game ever be a priority at Ubi?
  17. Do you have the game? I played the demo. I don't see what a patch needs to address. Also, I love the new command system. What do you think?
  18. I guess it is premature to get excited about GR 3 for PC. If GR 3 for console is built for the Xbox 2, that platform is supposed to have far more powerful processor and video card, which would translate well for pc. The big question is whether the game will be the tactical game most pc gamers want (for reference see the original game on pc). Games built for next gen consoles may be less linear, but future games for pc will certainly not be as non linear as GR. BIA and CC FTF are a good example. I do not see any company making the kind of tactical game that encompasses the features sought b
  19. - 3 SQUADS, up to 12 operators. - "real" squad AI - full featured and intuitive squad command system with either tac map or line of sight, including go to, recon, suppress, fall in orders, plus context sensitive orders for your squad to attack, go to, suppress, recon, action orders. Build on the context sensitive orders from GR 2 - more realistic enemy movement animation. - mature rating, blood and death animations plus ragdoll. - dynamic missions and campaigns - open ended maps and missions - suppressed weapons and more weapons. - better net code for MP - replays and better
  20. I am still optimistic that RSE and Ubi can deliver a very good game for our platform, and that it was a good decision to forego releasing an inferior product, if it means a better product in 6 to 8 months based on enhancements to the game. There are practically no real alternatives to the GR experience, so I still look forward to GR 3. You don't get the same gaming experience from CQB or arcade games, as good as some of them are. I have to think the posts, criticisms, suggestions, ideas put forward by the community here and other forums have played a part in this decision. At the least, th
  21. So far the response to that is wait for the SDK and mod it yourself. They really get annoyed if you complain about this. I know one thing - the Germans in the game do not have this problem.
  22. I don't care as long as GR 3 for PC is a really good squad tactical shooter. Better a late fall release of a good game than a release of a half assed game or PC port. I still need GR, SWAT 4 is great and FTF looks good too, but they are both CQB and I need the wide open spaces of GR. I am content to wait.
  23. Other than the MP being restricted and no coop, the biggest complaint is the aiming system-gun waver and gun accuracy. There is no way to control the waver and the gun inaccuracy is quite bad. If you take measured shots at a building, one shot may hit where the reticle is, the next will be a few feet left, then a few feet down, etc. I am sure this was changed after E3 (not in the vieo demo) because they realized the gameplay was too short. Conversely, the sniper rifle has almost no drift and is totally accurate at long range shots. The point is that it is ass backwards, the rifles and submachi
