  1. What I like (most everything I have read and seen):

    - tac map returns with waypoints and pathfinding

    - multiple squads, ability to split the squad into units.

    - the graphics

    - the destructible environment

    - the AI and use of cover

    - control over things like UAVs and gunships

    - first person view

    -models

    - the new leaning

    What to improve:

    - too urban, throw in at least some other environments.

    - better rets

    - no outline

    - more than 5 for MP coop

What I need to see more of:

    - exactly how do you give orders

    - how do you use the tac map

    - what does the zoomed view of the different weapons look like

    - how big are the maps and how open

    - how open is the gameplay

    -what weapons are available

    - is there a mission editor

  2. I am not a fan of Far Cry, but, I think modern game engines can do large open maps, but, your point about the graphics is very well put, if you combine graphics with destructible environments, maybe you have to make compromises.

I hope the reason is not to support a lot of scripting and proximity triggers, that is very limiting and should be kept to a minimum.

That image you refer to was an art render for GRAW. I just wonder what the reason was for the devs to go this route.

  3. I am very excited about this title and definitely intend to buy it. The biggest reservation I have about it, if it is the case, is why all urban and CQB. I am not a fan of CQB games as they tend to get repetitious, as in SWAT 4 and RVS. GR and GR 2 were not urban, so why the shift, why not even 50-50 between Mexico City and the coastal jungle/desert locales?

Who wanted an all urban GR? I am sure this will be addressed in mission packs, but, the question remains, why urban?

  4. Each bit of news is more encouraging, they are going back to the classic recon, tac map and waypoints, multiple squads and ability to control each squad directly.

Now we need news about modding. Maps and environments can be made to vary in mission packs and sequels, also there may be some variation in the original, but, it's the gameplay that is foremost.

  5. It sounds a little like the posture control in RVS except that maybe you lean out in graduated steps, as long as you can pull back in quickly. The problem with the standing lean in GR was that it exposed your body. On the other side of the debate, this will or may start a huge argument that this is a form of glitching in MP.

  6. He would warn that Mexico has stockpiled weapons of mass destruction and invade. The CIA would release data that indicated the Zappatistas were collaborating with Al Queda. Vincente Fox would be given 3 days to go to Cuba.

Given that the Army and Marines are tied up in Iraq, only a 4 man team would be sent to effect the regime change, plus a couple of gunships. Given the state of the Mexican army, it would be sufficient.

  7. I just downloaded a new mod by Sixpence, In The Line Of Fire, a desert mod, with lots of different maps. Also, there is a new Vietnam mod, called Platoon, at Ghostaholic, you can stalk some Vietcong while waiting for YOTM.

  8. The command system from GR 2 is very poor, too imprecise and limited. The squad order system for GRAW PC needs to be far more robust.

I would love to see the return to a GR style squad system with waypoints and ROE, combined with context sensitive commands like GR 2 or RVS, but, the truth is that games are getting dumber, not smarter. Without tactical squad control, open maps and mod tools, this game will fade quickly.

  9. It sounds like certain missions will feature other AI squad(s) that you will have a level of control over. I have seen screens where the main character has control over 2 Apache gunships. There is only one main squad, but, the ability to split it up into multiple units is much better than just having one unit. More needs to be revealed about the precision of the control over the squad members.

Not being able to toggle off the weapon view does not bother me, but, it will bother other purists.

I like the different level of AI intelligence.
